The steel pipe of steel-concrete composite piles increases the pile strength and induces the ductile failure by constraining the deformation of the inner concrete. In this research, the load-movement relations and the reinforcement effect by the outer steel pipe in the steel-concrete composite pile were analyzed by performing three-dimensional numerical analyses, which can simulate the yielding behavior of pile material and the elasto-plastic behavior of soils. The parameters analyzed in the study include three pile materials of steel, concrete and composite, pile diameter, pile distance and loading direction. As the results, the axial capacity of the composite pile was about 73% larger than that of the steel pipe pile and about 14% larger than that of the concrete pile. In addition, the horizontal movement at the pile head of the composite pile was about 51% of that of the steel pile and about 19% of that of the concrete pile.

In the air current pulverizing type grinding method, the blade wings fitted inside a casing are rotated at a high speed to generate a cornering air current, which facilitates the collision of materials with one another, leading to the pulverizing phenomenon. In contrast to mechanical grinding, grit pulverizing leads to fine grinding and less acid waste and degeneration of the material. Moreover, this approach prevents the loss of nutritional value, while allowing the milling grain to have an excellent texture. However, the existing air current pulverizing type machines consist of prefabricated blades, which cannot be rotated at a speed higher than 5,000 rpm. Consequently, the grinding process becomes time consuming with a low productivity. To overcome these problems, in this study, the shape and structure of the air current pulverizing type wings were optimized to allow rapid grinding at more than 8,000 rpm. Moreover, the optimal design for the ripening parts for the air current pulverizing type device was determined by performing a computational fluid dynamics analysis based on airflow analyses to produce machinery that can grinding materials to the order of micrometers.
The rapid development of communication equipment and information processing technology has led to a constant improvement in cordless communication. Lithium ion batteries used in cellular phones and laptop computers, in particular, have been in the forefront of the above revolution. These batteries use high value added raw materials and have a high and stable energy output and are increasingly coming into common use. The development of the material for the negative terminal has led to an improvement in the quality and efficiency of the batteries, whereas a reduction in the cost of the battery by researching new materials for the positive anode has become a research theme by itself. These long life batteries, it is being increasingly realized, can have value added to them by recycling. Research is increasingly being done on recycling the aluminum case and the load casing for the negative diode. This paper aims to introduce the current situation of recycling of lithium ion batteries. 1. Introduction 2. This paper describes field installation and load test results performed for three types of micropiles in the process of developing a new micropiling method. Field tests were performed for two conventional types(i.e., micropile reinforced with steel bar and gravity grouting, micropile reinforced with steel bar and steel casing and gravity grouting) and a proposed type(i.e., micropile reinforced with hollow steel pipe wrapped with geotextile-pack and pressurized grouting). The load test results subjected to axial compression and tension and lateral loading conditions are described in this paper. The micropiles were exposed in the air in order to verify the installation quality and curing condition of grouting material via ground excavation. Axial compression and tension test results indicate that the new micropile type provide at least 40% higher bearing capacity than that of conventional types. Based on the examination of exposed piles, it is induced that the proposed method, packed micropile, provides better interlocking between grouts and surrounding soils and increases higher frictional resistance comparing to conventional types.
A small mixed-type turbine with a diameter of 19.9 mm has been substituted for a rotational part of pencil-type air tool. Usually, a vane-type rotor is applied to the rotational part of the air tool. However, the vane-type rotor has some problems, such as friction, abrasion, and necessity of accurate assembly etc.,. These problems make the life time of the vane-type air tool short, but air tools operated by mixed-type turbines are free of friction and abrasion because the turbine rotor dose not contact with the casing. Moreover, it is assembled easily because of no axis offset. These characteristics are merits for using air tools, but loss of power is inevitable on a non-contacting type rotor due to flow loss, tip clearance loss, and profile loss etc.,. In this study, four different rotors are tested, and their characteristics are investigated by measuring the specific output power. Additionally, optimum nozzle location against the rotor is studied. Output powers are obtained through measured pressure, temperature, torque, rotational speed, and flow rate. The experimental results obtained with four different rotors show that the rotor blade shape greatly influences to the performance, and the optimum nozzle location exists near the mid span of the rotor.

In this research, we analysed design and CFD analysis of an inflow radial turbine for OTEC with an output power of 8kW using an working fluid of ammonia. The inflow radial turbine consists of scroll casing, vain nozzle with 18 blade numbers and rotor blade with 13 blade numbers. Mass flow rate, and inlet temperature are 0.5kg/s and $25^{\circ}C$ respectively, and variable rotational speeds were applied between 12,000 and 36,000 with 3,000 rpm intervals. As the results according to the rotational speeds, the designed speed is 24,000 rpm where maximum efficiency exists. The maximum efficiency and output power are 88.66% and 8.52kW, respectively. Through this study, we expect that the analysed results will be used as the design material for the composition of the turbine optimal design parameters corresponding to the target output power under various working material conditions.

To protect the underground pipeline from the mechanical damage and to enhance the cathodic protection effect, the river sand has been backfilled traditionally around the buried pipeline. However, river sand became depleted and expensive. One has to seek for the economic alternative materials. Crashed stone is a good candidate for the backfill material. In this study, how much the particle size and shape of the crashed stone can effect on the gas pipeline coating was examined. A series of laboratory and field test was performed. In the Lab, the increasing loads were applied to the coated pipeline surrounded by the crashed stone, where no significant damage was observed.
The present paper relates to an apparatus in which all carbonaceous material such as coal, oil, plastics and any substance having carbon atoms as part of its constituents are reformed(gasified) into syngas at temperature above $1,200^{\circ}C$(KR patent No.0391121, and PCT/KR2001/01717 and PCT/KR2004/001020). It comprises a single-stage reforming reactor without catalyst and a syngas burner as shown in Fig.2. syngas is combusted with $O_2$ gas in the syngas bunter to produce $M_2O$ and $CO_2$ gas with exothermic heat. Reaction products are introduced into the reforming reactor, reaction heat from syngas burner elevate the temperature of reactor above $1,200^{\circ}C$, and reaction products reduce carbonaceous material down to CO and $H_2$ gases. Reactants and heat necessary for the reaction are provided through the syngas burner only, Neither $O_2$ gas nor steam are injected into the reforming reactor. Reformer is made of ceramic inner lining and sst outer casing. Multiple syngas burners may be connected to the reforming reactor in order to increase the syngas output, and a portion of the product syngas is recycled into syngas burner. The present reformer as shown in Fig.2 is suitable to gasify carbonaceous wastes without secondary pollutants formed from oxidation. Further, it can be miniaturized to accompany a fuel cell system as shown in Fig.3 The output syngas may be used to drive a fuel cell and a portion of electrical power generated in a fuel cell is used to heat a compact reformer up to $1,200^{\circ}C$ so that gas/liquid fossil fuel can efficiently reformed into syngas. The fuel cell serves as syngas burner in Fig.2. The reformation reaction is sustained through recycling a portion of product syngas into a fuel cell and using a portion of electric power generated to heat the reformer for continuous operation. Such reforming reactor may be miniaturized into a size of PC, then you have a Personal Reformer(PR).

Buckling restrained braces(BRBs) developed as a seismic protection element, hysteretic damper, have been investigated in America and Japan mainly. BRBs are composed of a steel core and concrete-filled steel casing. It is one of the major causes of drop in productivity to fill the steel casing with concrete. To improve this problem, the BRB is introduced in which the steel core is restrained with a pair of semicircular springs. In this paper, the numerical and analytical investigation about the desirable configuration for a semicircular spring is presented. Firstly, the stiffness and strength of semicircular spring is determined theoretically to buckle into a very high-order modes. Then, the required stiffness and strength are calculated under the practical design conditions and considered as reference values to find a proper configuration. The material strength and thickness of semicircular spring are chose from the finite element analysis for 5 semicircular springs with varying height. Finally, the nonlinear buckling analysis of BRB with proper semicircular springs shows that the bucking strength of the whole BRB is very similar to the strength of steel core with length between semicircular springs.
In this study, we make simulation of density log using a Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) algorithm to make an analysis on density logging under different borehole environments, since density logging is affected by various borehole conditions like borehole size, density of borehole fluid, thickness and type of casing, and so on. MCNP algorithm has been widely used for simulation of problems of nuclear particle transportation. In the simulation, we consider the specific configuration of a tool (Robertson Geologging Co. Ltd) that Korea institute of geoscience and mineral resources (KIGAM) has used. In order to measure accurate bulk density of a formation, it is essential to make a calibration and correction chart for the tool under considerations. Through numerical simulation, this study makes calibration plot of the density tool in material with several known bulk densities and with boreholes of several different diameters. In order to make correction charts for the density logging, we simulate and analyze measurements of density logging under different borehole conditions by considering borehole size, density of borehole fluid, and presence of casing.
