  • Giant cell reparative granuloma(GCRG) is a non-neoplastic rapidly expanding and locally destructive tumor that occurs almost exclusively within the mandible and maxilla. A 58-year-old man, complained of a mass on the left infra-auricular area starting 2 months ago. The radiologic finding suggests a mass that originate from mandible, pathology diagnosed the lesion as a giant cell reparative granuloma. The tumor was surgically excised without complications. We report the case with a review of literature.

  • The clinical picture and CSF findings in cryptococcus meningitis may be identical with those of tuberculous meningitis. The differential diagnosis can be made by finding the budding yeast organism in the counting chamber or in stained smear, the detection of cryptococcal antigen in CSF by the latex agglutination test, and by culture of the fungus on Sabouraud agar. We experienced a case of cryptococcal meningitis in the 48 years old woman, which was confirmed by Indian ink preparation and culture.

  • In this paper two protocols of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are examined through both a simulation and a case study. The simulation was performed with the optimized network (OPNET) simulator while comparing the performance of the Ad-Hoc on demand Distance Vector (AODV) and the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocols. This is compared and shown with real-world measurement of deflection from eight wireless sensor nodes. The wireless sensor response results were compared with accelerometer sensors for validation purposes. It was found that although the computer simulation suggests the AODV protocol is more accurate, in the case study no distinct difference was found. However, it was shown that AODV is still more beneficial in the field as it has a longer battery life enabling longer surveying times. This is a significant finding as a large factor in determining the use of wireless network sensors as a method of assessing structural response has been their short battery life. Thus if protocols which enhance battery life, such as the AODV protocol, are employed it may be possible in the future to couple wireless networks with solar power extending their monitoring periods.

  • Crohn's disease is an indolent, chronic inflammatory bowel disease capable of involving the entire alimentary tract. The exact etiology and pathogenesis remain unknown despite a long and intensive research, but the finding of various abnormalities of the immune response in patients with Crohn's disease has led to the concepts that immune mechanism is involved in the pathogenesis of this disease. Recently, we have experienced a case of Crohn's disease. So the purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy of Oriental medicine for Crohn's disease.

  • In the past decade, considerable effort has been devoted unsuccessfully to the development of information technology (IT) evaluation frameworks in the information systems area. Based on the literature review in this area and the decision analysis field, two competing evaluation frameworks are developed in this study: the direct evaluation framework and the indirect evaluation framework. A case study on Firm K shows that the latter is more practically efficient and theoretically appropriate but requires the adequate training for practitioners in order not to get confused the weight of an evaluation variable with the product of this weight and the score of the variable. Another finding is that Weill's conversion effectiveness is neither possible nor necessary to measure in the process of evaluating an IT although it is in theory an important concept.

  • We report a rare case of primary intradural extramedullary myxopapillary ependymoma of the spinal cord. A 45-year-old woman was admitted to the author's institution with a history of progressive paraparesis[grade IV/IV] with back pain. Neurologic examination revealed decreased sensation below T12 sensory dermatome level. Magnetic resonance imaging[MRI] revealed an intermediate enhanced intradural extramedullary tumor extending from T12. Total resection of the tumor was achieved by T12 laminectomy. Intraoperatively, there was no finding of attachment to rootlet and dura. Histopathological examination identified the tumor as a myxopaillary ependymoma. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first reported case of primary intradural extramedullary ependymoma in Korea.

  • This study investigated elementary school teachers' understanding of the image formation by converging lens, pinholes camera, mirror and water. In each case teachers were asked to draw the ray diagram to indicate the position of the image. Teachers' ray diagrams were analyzed in accordance with the scientific process of image formation. Results of analysis showed that teacher's conceptions were classified into five levels for each situation. And most of the teachers were in level 3 and level 4 in each case. Because they had difficulties in the appling scientific conception(propagating path of light, diffused reflection from each object point, role of the eye, ray tracing) to finding location of image. Also most of teachers didn't know how to apply the law of reflection and refraction to each situation. The study finally discussed the teacher training program of the optical image.

  • The acute osteomyelitis of calcaneus has been rarely reported. A diabetic patient, 44 year-old male was appeared with painful swelling on the hindfoot after being injected with steroid on the lateral area of hindfoot at a private clinic. The diagnosis was an acute calcaneal osteomyelits which was based on MRI finding. We report a case of the acute osteomyelitis of calcaneus, which was successfully treated with the curettage, antibiotic- impregnated bone cement beads, and delayed autogenous iliac bone graft, using the lateral approach.

  • The structures of inductive irises are used commonly in waveguide filter, especially at highter frequencyies, due to low loss and high temperature stability. However, the iris thickness can not be neglected, as it could be at the lower frequencies. Approximate models assuming zero thickness fail to predict the exact behavior of the filter. And current thickness correction is introduced which is valid in the case of thick irises only. Account of the effect of round is normally not taken. So the necessity of finding a relation for the two factors-iris thickness and round-arises in the design of waveguide filters. This paper describes a mutual relation that considers the combined effect of finite thickness and round from the start. In order to test the validity of the changed relation, weveral examples are given. And the measured response of each case is then compared with the predicted reponse. And it is shown that the radius is of perceptible influence on the transmission coefficient through a thick iris.

  • It is rare to find multiple supernumerary teeth in individuals with no other associated diseases or syndromes. 'Non-Syndrome multiple supernumerary teeth' reviewed by Yusof(1990) have more frequency of occurrence in the mandibular region. Especially, mandibular premolar region appears to be the site of predilection for no n-syndrome multiple supernumerary teeth. Also, these may develop after most permanent teeth have erupted, thus their effect upon the occlusion is limited. In this case, the patient had 20 supernumerary teeth without other associated diseases or syndromes. All of the supernumerary teeth were impacted, and thirteen of them were found in the premolar region. In the radiographic and clinical finding, other specific complication resulted from the supernumerary teeth weren't observed.
