  • According to the recent blackouts, large blackouts can be described by cascading outages. Cascading outage is defined by sequential outages from an initial disturbance. Sequential and probabilistic approach are necessary to minimize the blackout damage caused by cascading outages. In addition, conventional cascading outage analysis models are computationally complex and have time constraints, it is necessary to develop the new analytical techniques. In this paper, we propose the advance visualization model for probabilistic analysis of cascading failure risks. We introduce the visualization model for identifying size of cascading and potential outages and estimate the propagation rate of sequential outage simulation. The proposed model is applied to Korean power systems.

  • This paper presents the use of sequential outage checkers to identify the potential cascading processes that might lead to large blackouts. In order to analyze cascading outages caused by a combination of thermal overloads, low voltages, and under-frequencies following an initial disturbance, sequential outage checkers are proposed. The proposed sequential outage checkers are verified using the AEP 9-bus system, New England 39-bus system, and IEEE 118-bus system.

  • It is very important to operate a power system safely. An fault may causes the cascading outages in power system. Use of systematic, precise definitions related to the outages is essential for meaningful exchange of data. Moreover, it is necessary that specific instructions for reporting outages is developed. This paper presents the outage management for a power system. The outage managements of the many utilities are researched, which include the definition, classification, index and report of outage. Finally, the outage management standard is proposed, and the necessity and structure of KERC(Korean Electric Reliability Council) are presented

  • Defense systems are needed to prevent catastrophic failures of a power grid due to cascaded events. Cascaded events can be occurred by power flow overload. Especially, it is the most dangerous problem that overload line is outage, because it can make the power system face danger of cascaded. In this paper, vulnerability evaluation for monitoring wide are outage is proposed using by configuration information of transmission systems. This method of vulnerability evaluation is considered direct effect and indirect effect of power flow, especially overload. What is more, it can be used when the configuration of power system changes, as simple fault occurs or maintenance of facility. In the case studies, the estimation and simulation network have been testified and analysed in PSSE and C programming.

  • Defense systems are needed to prevent catastrophic failures of a power grid due to cascaded events. Cascaded events can be attributed to improper operations of protective relays. Especially, it is the most dangerous problem that trips of backup relays by overload. In this paper, a new algorithm of predicting Zone 3 acting time of distance relay is proposed using the real time synchronized data from PMUs on the transmission system when the power system is danger. In the proposed, some part of the power system are outage when some unexpected fault in the power system, the algorithm will monitor the impedance locus of distance relay. At this time, if there is a big change of Impedance locus, the algorithm will calculate the Zone 3 acting time of the distance relay by the over load. In the case studies, the estimation and simulation network have been testified and analysed in Matlab Simulink.
