Cell cycle dysfunction can cause severe diseases, including neurodegenerative disease and cancer. Mutations in cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors controlling the G1 phase of the cell cycle are prevalent in various cancers. Mice lacking the tumor suppressors $p16^{Ink4a}$ (Cdkn2a, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2a), $p19^{Arf}$ (an alternative reading frame product of Cdkn2a,), and $p27^{Kip1}$ (Cdkn1b, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1b) result in malignant progression of epithelial cancers, sarcomas, and melanomas, respectively. Here, we generated knockout mouse models for each of these three cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors using engineered nucleases. The $p16^{Ink4a}$ and $p19^{Arf}$ knockout mice were generated via transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs), and $p27^{Kip1}$ knockout mice via clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 (CRISPR/Cas9). These gene editing technologies were targeted to the first exon of each gene, to induce frameshifts producing premature termination codons. Unlike preexisting embryonic stem cell-based knockout mice, our mouse models are free from selectable markers or other external gene insertions, permitting more precise study of cell cycle-related diseases without confounding influences of foreign DNA.
Compact Advanced Satellite 500 (CAS500) can be used for various purposes, including vegetation, forestry, and agriculture fields. It is expected that it will be possible to acquire satellite images of various areas quickly. In order to use satellite images acquired through CAS500 in the agricultural field, it is necessary to develop a satellite image-based extraction technique for crop-cultivated areas. In particular, as research in the field of deep learning has become active in recent years, research on developing a deep learning model for extracting crop cultivation areas and generating training data is necessary. This manuscript classified the onion and garlic cultivation areas in Hapcheon-gun using PlanetScope satellite images and farm maps. In particular, for effective model learning, the model performance was analyzed according to the proportion of crop-cultivated areas. For the deep learning model used in the experiment, Fully Convolutional Densely Connected Convolutional Network (FC-DenseNet) was reconstructed to fit the purpose of crop cultivation area classification and utilized. As a result of the experiment, the ratio of crop cultivation areas in the training data affected the performance of the deep learning model.

Precipitation evapotranspiration and runoff are three key parameters of regional water balance. Problems exist in the traditional methods for calculating such factors , such as explaining of the geographic rationality of spatial interpolating methods and lacking of enough observation stations in many important area for bad natural conditions. With the development of modern spatial info-techniques, new efficient shifts arose for traditional studies. Guided by theories on energy flow and materials exchange within Soil-Atmosphere-Plant Continuant (SPAC), retrieval models of key hydrological parameters were established in the Yellow River basin using CMS-5 and FengYun-2 meteorological satellite data. Precipitation and evapotranspiration were then estimated: (1) Estimating tile amount of solar energy that is absorbed by the ground with surface reflectivity, which is measured in the visible wavelength band (VIS): (2) Assessing the partitioning of the absorbed energy between sensible and latent heat with the surface temperature, which was measured in the thermal infrared band (TIR), the latent heat representing the evapotranspiration of water; (3) Clouds are identified and cloud top levels are classified using both VIS and TIR data. Hereafter precipitation will be calculated pixel by pixel with retrieval model. Daily results are first obtained, which are then processed to decade, monthly and yearly products. Precipitation model has been has been and tested with ground truth data; meanwhile, the evapotranspiration result has been verified with Large Aperture Scintillometry (LAS) presented by Wageningen University of the Netherlands. Further studies may concentrate on the application of models, i.e., establish a hydrological model of the Yellow river basin to make the accurate estimation of river volume and even monitor the whole hydrological progress.

Nutritional compositions of acorn crude starch were analyzed according to country of origin, especially the mineral and sugar contents. Regarding the three kinds of starch of domestic (South Korea, KAS), Chinese (CAS), and North Korea (NAS) origins in the Korean market, NAS had the lowest moisture content as well as the highest contents of crude protein, crude fat, and carbohydrate. Regarding mineral contents, NAS contained the highest amounts of magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorous, whereas CAS contained the highest iron and zinc contents. There were no significant differences in acidity and pH. Analysis of the monosaccharide contents of the starches showed that glucose was the highest in KAS while sucrose was the highest in CAS. The Hunter color L value was the lowest in NAS, whereas a and b values were the lowest in CAS. Total phenolic content was the highest in NAS. NAS had the highest DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities ($IC_{50}$: 47.0 mg/mL for DPPH, 0.038 mg/mL for hydroxyl) whereas KAS had similar DPPH ($IC_{50}$: 73.7 mg/mL for CAS, 86.8 mg/mL for KAS) and hydroxyl radical activities ($IC_{50}$: 0.041 mg/mL for CAS, 0.044 mg/mL for KAS) as compared to CAS.
Since the release of Meta's Segment Anything Model (SAM), a large-scale vision transformer generation model with rapid image segmentation capabilities, several studies have been conducted to apply this technology in various fields. In this study, we aimed to investigate the applicability of SAM for water bodies detection and extraction using the QGIS Geo-SAM plugin, which enables the use of SAM with satellite imagery. The experimental data consisted of Compact Advanced Satellite 500 (CAS500)-1 images. The results obtained by applying SAM to these data were compared with manually digitized water objects, Open Street Map (OSM), and water body data from the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII)-based hydrological digital map. The mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) calculated for all features extracted using SAM and these three-comparison data were 0.7490, 0.5905, and 0.4921, respectively. For features commonly appeared or extracted in all datasets, the results were 0.9189, 0.8779, and 0.7715, respectively. Based on analysis of the spatial consistency between SAM results and other comparison data, SAM showed limitations in detecting small-scale or poorly defined streams but provided meaningful segmentation results for water body classification.
New high-resolution spectra and multi-band photometric data of BS Cas were obtained at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory in 2018 and at the Jincheon Station of the Chungbuk National University Observatory in 2011, respectively. We measured the radial velocities (RVs) for both components, and the effective temperature of the more massive star was determined to be $6262{\pm}56K$. In addition, historical light curves showed strong time-dependant light variations at the total eclipse. These variations were modeled by a cool spot on the more massive component. Finally, the physical parameters of BS Cas by a simultaneous analysis of our RV curves with the photometric light curves were presented. Individual masses and radii of both components were deduced as $M_1= 0.59{\pm}0.07M_{\odot}$, $M_2=1.47{\pm}0.15M_{\odot}$, $R_1=0.94{\pm}0.03R_{\odot}$ and $R_2=1.47{\pm}0.05R_{\odot}$.
Cassiopeia A supernova remnant is a young (~330 yr) remnant of Type IIb SN explosion with a massive progenitor. It shows two distinct optical knots; fast moving ejecta knots (FMKs) and quasi stationary circumstellar knots (QSFs). These knots offer an unique opportunity to explore the details of the explosion and also the end state evolution of the Type IIb SN progenitor. We have obtained NIR long-slit (30") spectra of 7 positions around the bright rim of Cas A in [Fe II] 1.644 micron using Triplespec which is a cross-dispersed near-infrared spectrograph that provides continuous wavelength coverage from 0.95-2.46um at intermediate resolution of 2700. Most of the FMKs show strong sulfur, silicon, and iron forbidden lines but no hydrogen or helium lines. The QSFs, on the other hand, show a much richer spectrum with strong hydrogen, helium, and iron lines, but no sulfur and silicon lines. We measure their fluxes and radial velocities, and derive their physical parameters such as electron density and temperature. We also measure the proper motion of these knots from two [Fe II] 1.644 micron images obtained at 3-year interval. We analyze the physical properties of these knots and discuss the evolution and explosion of the progenitor of Cas A.
Purpose: This study aim to determine the effect of chewing gum on the reduction of postoperative ileus and recovery after surgery. Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial among 82 patients who underwent spine surgery between May 2015 and October 2015. Patients in experimental group chewed sugarless gum 3 times daily for 30 minutes each time until POD 5. Abdominal discomfort, the first defecation, and CAS score (Constipation Assessment Scale) were monitored. Results: After the experiment, abdominal discomfort was significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to that of the control group (F=2.46, p=.044). However, the first defecation occurred on postoperative hour 69.6 in the chewing gum group and on hour 60.2 in the control group (t=-1.63, p=.107). CAS was significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to that of the control group (F=3.51, p=.012). Conclusion: Chewing gum is expected to help patient recover after surgery as safe nurse intervention which can reduce abdominal discomfort and constipation during early postoperative days after spine surgery.
The detection of many synthetic chemicals used in industry that may pose a genetic hazard in our environment is of great concern at present. Since these substances are not limited to the original products, and enter the environment, they have become widespread environmental pollutants, thus leading to a variety of chemicals that possibly threaten the public health. In this respect, to regulate and to evaluate the chemical hazard will be important to environment and human health. The clastogenicity of 11 synthetic chemicals was evaluated in Chinese hamster lung fibroblast cells in vitro. 1-Chloro-3-bromopropane CAS No. 109-70-6) induced chromosomal aberrations with significance at the concentration of $185.0\;{\mu}g/mL\;and\;1,600\;{\mu}g/mL$ both in the presence and absence of metabolic activation system, respectively. Triphenyl phosphite (CAS No. 101-02-0), which is one of the most cytotoxic chemical among 11 chemicals tested revealed no clastogenicity in the range of $95.0-4.9\;{\mu}g/mL$ both in the presence and absence of metabolic activation system. From the results of chromosomal aberration assay with 11 synthetic chemicals in Chinese hamster lung cells in vitro, 1-chloro-3-bromopropane revealed a positive clastogenic result in this study.
