Effect of Load Condition on Turning Performance of a VLCC in Adverse Weather Conditions

  • The load condition significantly influences ship maneuverability in calm water. In this research, the effect of the load condition on turning performance of a very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) sailing in adverse weather conditions is investigated by an MMG-based maneuvering simulation method. The relative drift direction of the ship in turning to the wave direction is $20^{\circ}-30^{\circ}$ in ballast load condition (NB) and full load condition (DF) with a rudder angle $35^{\circ}$ and almost constant for any wind (wave) directions. The drifting displacement in turning under NB becomes larger than that under DF at the same environmental condition. Advance $A_d$ and tactical diameter $D_t$ become significantly small with an increasing Beaufort scale in head wind and waves when approaching, although $A_d$ and $D_t$ are almost constant in following wind and waves. In beam wind and waves, the tendency depends on the plus and minus of the rudder angle.

  • This paper aims to provide the most useful method of determining an optimum LCB position and design direction of fore- and aft-body hull shape for a SLBV. It is known that the SLBV has a lower length-to-beam ratio, larger Cb and simpler stern shape designed for the installation of azimuth thrusters comparing to those of conventional LNG carriers. Due to these specific particulars of SLBV, the optimum LCB position was very different to that of conventional LNG carrier. And various approaches were applied to determine the optimum fore- and aft-body hull shape. The design direction for the optimum hull-form was evaluated as the minimization of the total resistance which includes the wave-making resistance and form-drag with numerical simulation.

  • 연안 충적층 지역은 토양침식, 지반침하 등 지질 재해와 태풍, 홍수 해양 재해에 노출되어 인명 또는 재산 피해의 위험에 취약하다. 지반 침하는 지표 물질이 지하로 이동하면서 지반의 점진적인 또는 급격한 침강이 발생하는 현상으로 지속적인 감시가 요구된다. 영상레이더 위상간섭기법 (Radar Interferometry)은 마이크로파 영역에서 관측된 위상정보를 이용하여 지형 변위를 정밀하게 관측할 수 있는 기술이다. Small BAseline Subset(SBAS) 기법은 최소 20장 이상의 영상레이더 자료를 사용하여 대상 지역에 대한 시계열 지표 변위를 정밀하게 분석할 수 있어 지반침하 감시에 유용하다. X- 또는 C-밴드에 비해 장파장인 L-밴드 영상레이더 자료는 긴밀도 유지에 보다 유리하여 지구과학용으로 적합하다. 하지만 L-밴드 ALOS-2 PALSAR-2은 전지구 관측 프로그램을 운영하고 있어 시계열 분석을 하기에 영상 획득이 충분하지 않을 수 있다. 관심 지역인 부산의 경우, Stripmap 영상은 11장으로서 SBAS 시계열 분석 기법을 적용하기에는 부족한 촬영 수이다. 일반적으로 동일한 모드의 영상 간 위상간섭기법의 적용이 가능하지만, 비슷한 관측 기하에서 관측한 Stripmap과 ScanSAR 영상을 이용한 위상간섭기법의 적용이 성공적으로 수행된 바 있다. 해당 지역의 ScanSAR 영상은 18장으로 Stripmap-ScanSAR 위상간섭기법을 적용하면 SBAS 기법을 이용한 향상된 시계열 분석이 가능하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 Gamma 소프트웨어를 이용하여 ALOS-2 PALSAR-2로부터 획득된 L-band 영상 자료에 대한 위상간섭기법 적용 가능여부를 평가하였다. Stripmap-ScanSAR 위상간섭기법 적용을 위해 이종 모드 관측 영상 사이의 chirp bandwidth와 pulse repetition frequency (PRF)의 차이를 고려한 영상레이더 자료 처리를 수행하였으며, radar carrier frequency의 차이 보정과 common band filtering 적용 여부에 따라 발생하는 위상간섭도의 품질을 분석하였다. Radar carrier frequency 차이 보정에 따른 위상간섭도의 긴밀도 변화는 크게 나타나지 않았으나, common band filtering으로 인해, 위상간섭도에서 azimuth 방향으로 주기적인 잡음과 전체적인 긴밀도 저하가 발생하였다. 따라서 Stripmap-ScanSAR 위상간섭기법을 적용하는 경우 두 관측 모드의 range와 azimuth 방향의 밴드 폭의 특성에 따라 주의 깊은 자료 처리가 요구된다.

옥천대 북동부에 분포하는 하부 고생대층에 대한 고지자기 연구 (Paleomagnetic Study of the Lower Ordovician Formations in the North Eastern Okcheon Zone)

  • Lower Ordovician rock samples were collected from 23 sites located at the Okcheon non-metamorphic zone, near Taeback and Yeongweol areas, southern part of the Korean Peninsula. A characteristic magnetic component was obtained from four sites. This stable direction ($Dm=-19.4^{\circ}$, $Im=24.1^{\circ}$) which is carried by hematite of very high temperature $679^{\circ}C$), successfully pass both of reversal test and paleopole reliability test, and is regarded as a primary direction. The remagnetized components can be divided into three on the basis of their characteristic directions and magnetic minerals. The first which is carried by hematite, magnetite and pyrrhotite, is widely found at the whole sites. It shows syn- or post-tectonic remagnetization according to strongly negative fold test and distribution between Mesozoic and present field directions. The second, in situ, is distinguishable from the present field direction. After bedding correction, it is identical to Late Triassic to Early Jurassic direction. Its magnetic carrier is considered to be a single component hematite, which may be acquired by pre-tectonic CRM in the Okcheon orogenic zone. The third, which is carried by magnetite and hematite, is characterized by stable reversed direction. These minerals may be acquired by the thermal or chemical process in unknown period. Paleopole position is $169.2^{\circ}E$ in longitude and $59.9^{\circ}S$ in latitude, which indicates that the study area was located at $12.6^{\circ}S$ in paleo-latitude and belonged to northern end of the Gondwana in Early Ordovician.

Faultless Protection Methods in Self-Healing Ethernet Ring Networks

  • Self-healing Ethernet rings show promise for realizing the SONET/SDH-grade resilience in Carrier Ethernet infrastructures. However, when a ring is faulty, high-priority protection messages are processed in less time than low-priority data frames are processed. In this situation, any delayed data frames either being queued or traveling through long ring spans will cause the ring nodes to generate incorrect forwarding information. As a result, the data frames spread in the wrong direction, causing the ring to become unstable. To solve this problem, we propose four schemes, that is, dual flush, flush delay timer setting, purge triggering, and priority setting, and evaluate their protection performance under various traffic conditions on a ring based on the Ethernet ring protection (ERP) method. In addition, we develop an absorbing Markov chain model of the ERP protocol to observe how traffic congestion can impact the protection performance of the proposed priority setting scheme. Based on our observations, we propose a more reliable priority setting scheme, which guarantees faultless protection, even in a congested ring.

국제물품매매에서 물품검사시기에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Buyer's Timely Inspection of the Goods in International Sale of Goods)

  • The buyer must examine the goods, or cause them to be examined, within as short a period as is practicable in the circumstances. Article 38 lays down a fundamental principle that requires the buyer to examine quickly the goods delivered by the seller. Article 38 (1) provides that the examination be made within as short a period as practicable in the circumstances. The goods have to be examined within as short a period as is practicable in the circumstances. The rule is based on the fundamental idea of reasonableness, meaning that the buyer must examine the goods as soon as reasonably possible. It may be said that the buyer should act reasonably fast. Article 38 (2), (3) concerns sales involving carriage of the goods, where the seller's obligation to deliver consists in handing the goods over to the first carrier for transmission to the buyer. In this case the buyer is generally able to examine the goods only after they have come to destination. Article 38 (3) takes into account the case where the buyer redirects the goods in transit or re-dispatches them to another destination. Redirection in transit occurs when the destination is changed before the goods are received by the buyer. The buyer could re-dispatch the goods without having them unloaded, or re-dispatch them through another carrier.

73,000톤 산적화물선의 선체거더 종진동 현상분석 (A Study on the Longitudinal Hull Girder Vibration of a 73,000 Deadweight Bulk Carrier)

  • 선체거더의 종진동 현상은 60년대에 이미 조사된 바 있으나 기존 선박들에서는 종방향 기진력이 작았기 때문에 선체 종진동 현상이 거의 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 80년대 중반이후의 대형 저속디젤엔진 추진선에서는 추진축계 비틂 공진점에서 연성되어 작용하는 축계 종방향 기진력에 의하여 선체전체의 종진동이 유발될 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 73,000톤 산적화물선에서 감지된 선체거더의 종진동 현상을 실선계측 및 해상기진기 실험 그리고 유한요소 해석방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 이러한 선체 종진동 현상은 Over-critical 축계 시스템을 갖춘 선박에서만 축계 종방향 기진력에 의해 나타날 수가 있으며 그 중에서도 주기관의 연속 사용금지구역(barred range)이 설정되지 않은 선박의 경우엔 하중조건에 따라 저속 입출항 운항시 선루를 포함한 선체에 심한 중진동이 발생될 수 있슴이 판명되었다.

풍력발전기용 3점 지지 기어박스에서 캐리어 핀홀 위치 오차가 유성기어의 하중분할에 미치는 정성적 영향에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study for the Qualitative Effect of Carrier Pin Hole Position Error on Planet Load Sharing of Wind Turbine Three-point Suspension Gearbox)

  • In this study, the qualitative effects of the positional error of carrier pin holes on the planet load sharing characteristics of the three-point suspension gearbox of wind turbines were investigated experimentally. A 35-kW gearbox comprising two planetary gear stages and a parallel gear stage and size one-fourth of that of a 2-MW three-point suspension gearbox was used as the test gearbox. The strain gauges attached to the ring gear teeth of the input planetary gear stage were used for the purpose of this study. The applied loading conditions were 50%, 75%, and 100% of the rated torque, and the mesh load factor was used as the load sharing index. The experimental results indicated that both the magnitude and direction of the positional error of pin holes had a significant effect on the planet load sharing characteristics of the three-point suspension gearbox. In addition, an increase in the applied torque results in uniform load sharing.

실험계획법을 이용한 Reel Tape Packaging 공정조건 분석 (Analysis of Reel Tape Packing process conditions using DOE)

  • Today's placement machines can pick and place thousands of components per hour with a very high degree of accuracy. The packaged semiconductor chips are inserted into a carrier at regular intervals, covered with a tape to protect the chips from external impact, and supplied in a roll form. These packaging processes also progress rapidly in a consistent direction, affecting the peelback strength between the cover tape and carrier depending on the main process conditions. In this paper, we analyzed the main process variables that affect peelback strength in the reel tape packaging process for packaging semiconductor chips. The main effects and interactions were analyzed. The peelback strength range required in the packaging process was set as the nominal the best characteristics, and the optimum process condition satisfying this was derived.

A Study on Determining the Priority of Supervising Mooring Line while 125K LNG Moss Type Discharging at Pyeong Taek Gas Terminal

  • The Port of Pyeong Taek is located on the west coast, meaning that the difference between the rise and fall of tide is great (flood tide 1.8 to 2.9 knots, ebb tide 1.6 to 2.9 knots). Due to mainly N~NW'ly strong winds & high waves during winter, navigating as well as loading & discharging vessels must focus on cargo handling. The strong tidal and wind forces in the Port of Pyeong Taek can push an LNG carrier away from its berth, which will end up causing forced disconnection between the vessel's cargo line and shore-side loading arm. The primary consequence of this disconnection will be LNG leakage, which will lead to tremendous physical damage to the hull and shore-side equipment. In this study, the 125K LNG Moss Type ship docked at No. 1 Pier of the Pyeong Taek is observed, and the tension of the mooring line during cargo handling is calculated using a combination of wind and waves to determine effective mooring line and mooring line priority management. As a result if the wind direction is $90^{\circ}$ to the left and right of the bow, it was found that line monitoring should be performed bearing special attention to the Fore Spring Line, Fore Breast Line, and Aft Spring Line.
