  • Purpose: The aim of this research was to explore nurses' knowledge of and attitudes toward pediatric palliative care (PPC) in Korea. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. A total of 196 participants were recruited from the ELNEC-PPC course held in Seoul, Korea. All participants completed a 20-item survey questionnaire which assessed knowledge of and attitudes toward PPC using a 7-point Likert scale. Results: Nurses' knowledge of PPC correlated with their educational level and work experience in the pediatric unit and hospice care unit. The work experience in the pediatric unit, career length in PPC and completion of palliative education course made differences in the attitudes toward PPC. Married nurses scored significantly higher on the parental rights in determining palliative care service for their child, and nurses with master's degree or higher showed a higher level of understanding of and attitudes toward the differences between PPC and adult palliative care. Conclusion: The factors influencing nurses' knowledge of and attitudes toward PPC need be considered to develop a pediatric palliative training program.

The instruments were perception of ethical values, ethical conflicts, and job satisfaction and it was revised by the author. The reliability of Cronbach's a was .74, .93, .85, respectively. SAS 8.0 program was used to analyze the data, and frequency, percentage, unpaired t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff\`{e}$ test, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient were calculated for data analysis. Followings are the results of the study: The scores of home care nurses' perception of ethical values were average 3.8points (5points scale). There was no significant difference between the groups according to general characteristics such as age (P=.001), religions (P=.001), ethical standard (P=.018), and current job satisfaction (P=.000). The scores of home care nurses' ethical conflicts were average 2.9points (5points scale). There was significant difference according to pay (P=.008) and employment status (P=.001) of general characteristics; conflicts was showed to go up with higher pay and temporary employment status. The scores of home care nurses' job satisfaction were average 3.3points (5points scale). There was significant difference among the groups according to age (P=.023), pay (P=.001), job career of home care (P=.030), and current job satisfaction (P=.000) of the general characteristics. There was significant positive correlation between subject's perception of ethical values and ethical conflicts (P=.004) and perception of ethical values and job satisfaction (P=.005). However, ethical conflicts and job satisfaction (P=.772) showed negative correlation, but it was not significant. With the results, home care nurses showed firm perception of ethical values and relatively higher job satisfaction. However, they showed ethical conflicts regarding the lack of administrative support and dignity of human life. In conclusion, It requires some alternative measures to solve the ethical conflicts and to enhance job satisfaction of home care nurses through the support in policy, continuous ethics education, rewarding system, and introducing laws to protect individual home care nurses.

  • This study researched into literature materials in order to utilize basic data on job importance in dental coordinator, and analyzed questionnaire on job importance in dental coordinator for about 2 months from August and September in 2008 targeting dental hygienists and other manpower for dental hospitals & clinics where are located in D region and neighboring region. The following are the results: 1. Dental hospital & clinics where dental coordinators work were surveyed to be totally 66.9%. Dental coordinators were indicated to be 71.1% as for dental hospital$^{\circ}{\S}$clinic(women), and to be 28.4% as for a case with none. There was significant difference according to final academic degree and working place(P<.001). 2. License holders(women) for dental hygienist as dental coordinator accounted for 39.8%. The opposite case accounted for 60.2%. A case of doing duty of dental coordinator given not dental hygienist was indicated to be high. There was significant difference according to working place(p<.01). 3. The task importance on job that a dental coordinator directly performs was indicated to be averagely 3.24, thereby having been recognized to be important. 4. As for the recognition on job importance according to working-year number, it was indicated to have higher recognition on task importance in the more working-year number regarding customer management(p<.01), organization management(p<.05), and self-management(p<.01). 5. Given seeing difference in recognition on task importance according to medical institution, it was indicated to be 3.34 for dental clinic and 3.25 for dental hospital. Thus, the task importance was indicated to be slightly high in a person who works for dental clinic. There was no significant difference. In light of the above results, in order to educate dental coordinator who can successfully perform a role at dental hospital & clinic, a dental hygienist is required who is equipped with dental-clinic career rather than a person without a major. A professionally educational program for dental coordinator needs to be developed. Even in a dental coordinator's task, there is necessity for the curricular development and the specialized education.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of research project activities using the science writing heuristic on science inquiry abilities and attitudes toward science in high school students. For this purpose, we conducted the research project activities using the science writing heuristic consisting of questioning, experimental design, observation, argument and evidence, reading, and reflection steps for 73 students of the second year of science core course in high school in Jeonnam. In order to analyze the effects of the program, we surveyed the scientific inquiry ability and attitude toward science, investigated the perception of the research project class applying science writing heuristic, and conducted interviews when there was difficulty in interpreting the results. And the results of this study are as follows. First, among the science inquiry abilities, the score of Reasoning, Hypothesis setting, Finding variables, Operational definition, Experimental design, Graphing and data interpretation, Generalization was significantly improved statistically (p<.05), but the score of Expectation was not statistically significant (p>.05). Second, among the attitudes toward science, the score of 'Leisure interest in science', 'Enjoyment of science lessons', 'Career interest in science' was significantly improved statistically (p<.05). And the score of 'Attitude to scientific inquiry' decreased but it's not significant statistically. The high school research project applying science writing heuristic had a positive effect on scientific inquiry ability and scientific attitude but it could be burden to students because it is led by students in a form different from general science class for a long time. And so continuous study on research project that minimize these disadvantages and maximize their merits is needed.

  • In order to protect Rescue 119 workers exposed on the spot from potential infection, this study identified their awareness and practices of infection control so that it could help preventing them from infection and also provide basic materials necessary for pre-hospital infection control. This study applied questionnaire survey to total 215 Rescue 119 workers at fire stations in Jeonbuk province, Jeonnam province and Gwangju city from July 14 to Sept. 14, 2006 for the benefit of data collection. The questionnaire about possible associations between awareness and practices of infection control consisted of total 46 times across 6 categories such as washing hands during emergency activities ; fluid therapy and injection ; respirator maintenance; individual hygienics ; disinfectant supplies and equipments maintenance ; and control of infectious wastes. And collected data were processed using SPSS statistic program to analyze frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, Pearson's correlation coefficient, t-test and one-way ANOVA. As a result, this study came to the following conclusions : In terms of awareness about infection control, our respondents showed highest awareness about infectious waste control, and also showed highest level of practices in washing hands during emergency activities. Throughout all domains, awareness means were higher than practice means. In particular, infectious waste control was the domain of significant differences between awareness and practices. In terms of associations between awareness and individual characteristics, it was found that female rescue worker group and hospital/general hospital career group (before joining the Rescue 119) showed significantly higher awareness on statistic level. In regard to associations between individual characteristics and practices, it was found that female rescue worker group showed higher level of practices than male group on statistic level. This study also analyzed correlations between rescue workers' awareness and practice of infection control. As a result, it was found that the higher awareness was in correlations with the higher practices across all 6 domains including washing hands. In addition, the higher awareness of a questionnaire item was in significantly positive correlations with the higher practice of other items. However, our respondents showed high awareness about anti-infection, but low practices in reality. This indicates necessity of devising possible solutions to improve the practices as much as awareness. Especially, it was noted that major reasons for insufficient practices of infection control guideline come from unhabituated practices and lack of supports for infection-preventing supplies and protective device (mask, etc). Hence, it is necessary to provide more infection-preventing supplies for local rescue workers sufficiently, in parallel with steady habituation of infection control. Furthermore, it is required to manage and study infection control policies even at pre-hospital step in efforts for effective infection control, education and activities.

  • I had an interview with some unemployed career staffs who had retired and worked for more than twenty years in order to research impacting elements on reemployment for l retired special security government officials. This interview included an officer and a consultant for supporting employment in order to explore compacting elements on retired security government official's reemployment. Looking over analysis results, first, there is a shortage of reemployment opportunities and information. The job applicant's employment requirements are not in accordance with the company's employment conditions. They don't have enough professional experience necessary for employment. There is no positive employment supporting counterplan or vocational education program in the organization. Second, their insight about finding a job is high for the current employment market condition. The reemployment offices have a very difficult task because job applicants prefer a full-time job which offers long term work and guarantees a social position. Third, it is a huge obstacle to undertake going into various enterprises and fields because they don't have the right mind set and enough preparation for reemployment. Moreover, they would prefer to depend on organization employment support rather than getting a new job by themselves when they don't possess other careers' qualifications. Finally, they know that social networks and personal connections are extremely important in obtaining vocations, but actually have poor social networks and few personal connections. Accordingly, Their organization and related persons need to reflect on analysis results about impacting elements on reemployment for retired special security government officials.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among professional self-concept, moral sensitivity and elderly care performance nurses in geriatric hospitals, as well as to clarify factors that affect nurses' elderly care performance. Participants consisted of 153 nurses working in geriatric hospital in G Province were evaluated. Date were collected from September 15 to October 15, 2018 and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. The mean of professional self-concept was $2.87{\pm}0.35$ out of 4, that of moral sensitivity was $4.70{\pm}0.47$ out of 7 and that of elderly care performance $3.51{\pm}0.41$ out of 4. Elderly care performance was siginificantly positively correlated with professional self-concept (r=.48, p<.001) and moral sensitivity (r=.31, p<.001). Factors influencing elderly care performance were professional self-concept (${\beta}=.32$, p=.001), moral sensitivity (${\beta}=.18$, p=.021), educational experience of geriatric nursing (${\beta}=.17$, p=.029), which explained 31.6% of elderly care performance. The results of this study suggest that supporting systems should be arranged to provide various learning opportunities as a way to increase the professional self-concept of nurses with short career as well as intervention strategies may be necessary to make education of geriatric nursing obligatory.
