  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effect of video programs of cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation (CPCR) education of cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation of nurses. Methods: The subjects of the study were 64 nurses working in a university hospital. Nurse's CPCR performance have been measured four times (pre-test, post-test at immediately, 3 months and 6 months after intervention). Data were collected from February to August 2013. Results: There were significant differences in knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and performance between groups by measure time. And there were significant interactions in knowledge, self-efficacy, and performance between groups, within groups, except for the attitude. The video programs of CPCR interventions appear to be effective in the improvement of knowledge, self-efficacy, and performance, as compared to the control group. Conclusion: The video programs of CPCR education was an effective intervention to improve and retain the level of knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy and performance. And the video program of CPCR education have an advantage of self-learning effect for nurses with shift work. Therefore video programs of CPCR education will be utilized for continuing nurse's education.

  • A hepatic hemangioma is the most frequent benign liver tumor. Once rupture occurs, the bleeding can barely be controlled by using conservative management or endovascular treatment. We report a case of traumatic hepatic hemangioma rupture. A 60-year-old man was referred to our hospital under cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation (CPCR). CPCR was continued for 16 minutes after his admission to the emergency room (ER). Computed tomography (CT) showed fluid accumulation in the peritoneal cavity with active contrast extravasation in the left lateral segment of the liver. Percutaneous transarterial embolization and massive transfusion were carried out. Embolization did not stop the bleeding, we decided on an exploration and then resected the lateral segment of the liver to control the bleeding. The specimen showed a ruptured hemangioma in the liver segment.

  • Lithium is mainly prescribed for manic and depressive disorder, also frequently prescribed for the other diseases such as migraine, cluster headache, alcoholism, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. An acute lithium intoxication occurs in cases of patients ingesting large amount lithium at a time, a chronic lithium intoxication occurs in patients on chronic lithium therapy. Acute or chronic lithium poisoning occurs frequently in case of patients on chronic lithium therapy ingesting larger dose than prescribed. Manifestations of lithium poisoning are various. It is possible nervous, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems to be involved. Due to intracellular high concentration, mortality rate is high in acute lithium intoxication patients on chronic lithium therapy. We report a case of acutely intoxicated 40-year-old male on chronic lithium therapy. His chief complaints were deterioration and high fever. On his arrival to an emergency department, he was in cardiac arrest. He restored return of spontaneous circultion (ROSC) 5 minutes later after cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation (CPCR) and referred to department of internal medicine for hemodialysis. Vigorous treatment was given to the patient, but he was expired at 4th hospital day.
