DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) films show very desirable surface interactions with high hardness, low friction coefficient, and good wear-resistance properties. The friction behavior of hydrogenated DLC film is dependent on tribological environment, especially surrounding temperature. In this work, the tribological behaviors of DLC (Diamond-like carbon) films, prepared by the radio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (RF-PECVD) method, were studied in elevated temperatures. The ball-on-disk tests with DLC films on steel specimens were conducted at a sliding speed of 60 rpm, a load of 10N, and surrounding various temperatures of $25^{\circ}C,\;40^{\circ}C,\;55^{\circ}C\;and\;75^{\circ}C$. The results show considerable dependency of DLC tribological parameters on temperature. The friction coefficient decreased as the surrounding temperature increased. After tests the wear tracks of hydrogenated DLC film were analyzed by optical microscope, scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy. The surface roughness and 3-D images of wear track were also obtained by an atomic force microscope (AFM).
Generally speaking, a document is a mutual promise between two parties and functions as a legally-binding trust for a transaction. A document should be produced on a mutual agreement basis, and its credibility shall be attained if the transparency of a document production is ensured. Therefore, sequence analysis of the procedures in a document production is very important for appraisal of a document. The purpose of this research is to distinguish sequence association between the erased carbon ingredients of a pencil and the ingredients left in a ball-point pen and thus suggest a method that determines whether mutual agreement was applied or not in signing an insurance policy. This method analyzes if the carbon ingredients of a pencil are left in the bottom section of a ball-point pen through infrared photography. If the carbon ingredients of a pencil are left in the bottom section of a pen, the pen shall absorb infrared rays and mark a dense concentration. This method applies a relatively simple infrared photography system and therefore shall be beneficial to a personal appraisal store.

In this study, in-situ trans-selective polymerization of isoprene was carried out using titanium-based Ziegler-Natta catalysts. The catalysts were prepared by high-energy ball milling. Individually Large-inner-diameter carbon nanotubes (CNTL), and hydroxylated carbon nanotubes (CNTOH), along with magnesium chloride ($MgCl_2$) were used as the carriers for the catalysts. The optimum ball-milling time for preparing the $CNT/MgCl_2/TiCl_4$ Ziegler-Natta catalysts was 4 h. The $CNTOH/MgCl_2/TiCl_4$ catalyst showed a higher efficiency than that of the $CNTL/MgCl_2/TiCl_4$ catalyst, based on the rate of polymerization. The effects of the CNT-filler type on the isoprene polymerization behaviors and polymer properties were investigated. The morphologies of the trans-1,4-polyisoprene (TPI)/CNT and TPI/CNTOH nanocomposites exhibited a tube-like shape, and the CNTL and CNTOH fillers were well dispersed in the TPI matrix. In addition, the thermal stability of TPI significantly increased upon the introduction of a small amount of both CNTL/CNTOH fillers (0.15 wt%), owing to the satisfactory dispersion of the CNTL/CNTOH in the TPI matrix.

The friction behaviour of Si-wafer, diamond-like carbon (DLC) and two self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) namely dimethyldichlorosilane (DMDC) and diphenyl-dichlorosilane (DPDC) coated on Si-wafer was studied under loading conditions in milli-newton (mN) range. Experiments were performed using a ball-on-flat type reciprocating micro-tribo tester. Glass balls with various radii 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm and 1 mm were used. The applied normal load was in the range of 1.5 mN to 4.8 mN. Results showed that the friction increased with the applied normal load in the case of all the test materials. It was also observed that friction was affected by the ball size. Friction increased with the increase in the ball size in the case of Si-wafer. The SAMs also showed a similar trend, but had lower values of friction than those of Si-wafer In-terestingly, for DLC it was observed that friction decreased with the increase in the ball size. This distinct difference in the behavior of friction in DLC was attributed to the difference in the operating mechanism. It was observed that Si-wafer and DLC exhibited wear, whereas wear was absent in the SAMs. Observations showed that solid-solid adhesion was dominant in Si-wafer, while plowing in DLC. The wear in these two materials significantly Influenced their friction. In the case of SAMs their friction behaviour was largely influenced by the nature of their molecular chains.
Three types of bis[3-(dialkyloxylphosphorothionyl) thio-2-methylpropanyloxy]alkane (BAPA) drived from alkane diol were synthesized. The principal chain of each BAPA had a different carbon number, i.e., 6, 9, and 11. The three types of synthesized BAPA were compared to zinc dialkyl dithiophosphates (ZDDPs) in terms of abrasion resistance. A four-ball test was conducted to evaluate the anti-abrasion performance of the synthesized BAPA according to the length of the principal carbon chain. Each product was added to an additive at a concentration of 1% of the base oil weight, and the wear scar diameter (WSD) was measured as 0.472, 0.459, and 0.480 mm, respectively. Among the BAPA compounds, dialkyl dithiophosphoric acid (DDP), which is the side chain of bis[methacryloyloxy] nonane (BMOO9), was synthesized by varying the carbon number, i.e., 4, 8, and 12, and subsequently the 4-ball test was carried out. The WSD was determined as 0.537, 0.459, and 0.531 mm, respectively. As a result, it was found that when a side chain is short, a thin film is formed. In contrast, a long side chain hindered the formation of a film, and hence the best result was achieved when the carbon number was 8. As for the ZDDPs, the WSD was determined to be 0.563 mm, when measured under the same conditions. The measurements confirm that the synthesized BAPA compounds are superior to the ZDDPs as abrasion resistance additives.
Carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ powders as the active materials for the cathode were synthesized by planetary ball milling and solid-state reaction, and their phase formation behavior and charge-discharge properties were investigated. Calcination temperature and atmosphere were controlled in order to obtain the ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ phase, which was active electrochemically, and the carbon-coated $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active material powders with near single phase ${\beta}-Li_2MnSiO_4$ could be fabricated. The particles of the synthesized powders were secondary particles composed of primary ones of about 100 nm size. The carbon incorporation was essential to enable the Li ions to be inserted and extracted from $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials, and the initial capacity of 192 mAh/g could be obtained in the $Li_2MnSiO_4$ active materials with 4.8 wt% of carbon.
Ni-CNT(carbon nanotubes) composite coating is often used for the surface treatment of electronic/mechanical devices to improve the properties of the exisiting Ni electroplating. For this, the dispersion of CNT particle is a critical process. In this study, ball milling and additive called sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) are employed for dispersion. Electroplated Ni-CNT films were examined by SEM-EDX, AES, microhardness tester, 4-point probe and contact angle measurement to find the optimum dispersion conditions. Ni-CNT coatings formed by ball milling for 9 hrs and with addition of SDS 12 times of CNT contents showed the highest hardness, reasonable resistivity and non-stick characteristics.
In order to improve the dispersity of nanofiller, polyurethane (PU) nanocomposites were manufactured via poly(propylene gylcol) (PPG) dispersion with MWCNTs prepared by using a ball mill shaker. MWCNTs could be functionalized by treating with the hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$). Tensile strengths and elongations at break of $PU/H_2O_2$ treated MWCNTs nanocomposites were enhanced compared to those of the PU/pristine MWCNTs nanocomposites. The good dispersion of MWCNTs shown in SEM images was obtained by the functionalization of MWCNTs surface. PU/carbon black (CB) composites showed no significant change in the tensile properties. The tensile properties of PU nanocomposites containing pristine MWCNTs or $H_2O_2$ treated MWCNTs were enhanced with increasing dispersion time. As a result, it was certified that the enhanced dispersity of nanofiller brought the improvement of the tensile properties of the MWCNTs based PU nanocomposites.
In this study, the physicochemical and electrochemical properties of carbon nanomaterials and synthesized nano-carbon/Si composites were studied. The nano-carbon/Si composites were ball-milled to a nano size and coated with pyrolytic carbon using Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD). They were then finely mixed with respective nano-carbon materials. The physicochemical properties of samples were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and surface area analyzer. The electrochemical characteristics were investigated using the galvanostatic charge-discharge and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. Three-electrode cells were fabricated using the carbon nanomaterials and nano-carbon/Si composites as anode materials and LiPF6 and LiClO4 as electrolytes of Li secondary batteries. Reversibility using LiClO4 as an electrolyte was superior to that of LiPF6 as the electrolyte. The initial discharge capacities of nano-carbon/Si composites were increased compared to the initial discharge capacities of nano-carbon materials.

A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of activated carbon on the compressive strength and air content of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC). Activated carbon/PCC composites were prepared by mixing concrete components with commercial activated carbon granules with weight fractions of 0, 0.5%, 1%, and 2% to cement. All PCC specimens were then tested for compressive strength on 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. The experimental results showed that adding 0.5% of activated carbon increased the compressive strength significantly over the curing periods compared to the normal PCC without activated carbon. For the specimens has 0.5% activated carbon, the 7, 14, 21, and 28-day compressive strengths increased by 28.7%, 22.2%, 26.8%, and 22.9%, respectively. However, adding excessive amounts of more than 1% activated carbon had a minimal effect on the compressive strength or even decreased it, which agrees with other studies. Regarding the air contents of the mixtures, adding activated carbon decreased the air content from 3.6% to around 1.5%. The surface morphologies of fine aggregates and activated carbon particles were compared using a novel image processing technique. The results indicated that the surface of activated carbon significantly differs from that of aggregates.
