  • The metal catalyst particles which there is as impurities on a tip part of carbon nanotube (CNT) are not good to apply it to a nano-electronic device. It was very important the opening of CNT-tip to fix a target bio material and a material to accept in CNT in a biosensor, so we performed $HNO_3$ wet etching to remove the metal catalyst particle which there was on a tip part of CNT grown up in the study and observed the opened CNT-tip with etching time. We synthesized the CNTs using a HF-PECVD method and choses the CNT length of 700 nm for the application of nano-electronic device such as a biosensor etc.. We observed the opened CNT-tip with wet etching times of $HNO_3$ (10, 30, 60 min). From the results, we observed that the CNT-tip was opened with the increase of wet etching time lively. In case of CNTs etched during 60 min, we confirmed that there was not the ratio of Ni included in CNTsI as catalyst. Conclusively, in the case of CNT etched for 60 minutes, it is completely good for application of a biosensor and, in addition, the metal-free CNTs will contribute to the application of other nanoelectronic devices.

  • CNC (Carbon Nano Colloid) was used as an additive to the positive electrode to improve the discharge performance of sealed lead-acid batteries, The cathode active material ($PbO_2$) has a relatively low utility of less than 60 % compared with other kind of batteries, such as Ni-MH and Lithium ion, In this study, to overcome the above-mentioned problem we investigated the effects of CNC addition on the enhancement of electrical connection with not-utilized $PbO_2$ and resultantly electrical conductivity of electrode, We examined low rate discharge capacities, high rate discharge capacities and internal resistances of the batteries containing various amounts of CNC. From these results, we found out that the addition of CNC into the positive electrode made a significant improvement in high rate discharge capacity, We also suggested the optimum content of CNC material in positive electrode.

  • The composite of porous silicon (Si) and amorphous carbon (C) is prepared by pyrolysis of a nano-porous Si + pitch mixture. The nano-porous Si is prepared by mechanical milling of magnesium powder with silicon monoxide (SiO) followed by removal of MgO with hydrochloric acid (etching process). The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of porous Si ($64.52m^2g^{-1}$) is much higher than that before etching Si/MgO ($4.28m^2g^{-1}$) which indicates pores are formed in Si after the etching process. Cycling stability is examined for the nano-porous Si + C composite and the result is compared with the composite of nonporous Si + C. The capacity retention of the former composite is 59.6% after 50 charge/discharge cycles while the latter shows only 28.0%. The pores of Si formed after the etching process is believed to accommodate large volumetric change of Si during charging and discharging process.

  • FIB has been commonly used as a very powerful tool in the semiconductor industry. It is mainly used for mask repair, device correction, failure analysis and IC error correction, etc. Currently, FIB is not being applied to the fabrication of the micro and nano-structured mold, because of low productivity. And also sputtering rate has been required to fabricate 3D shape. In the paper, we studied the FIB-Sputtering rate according to mold materials. And surface roughness characteristics had been analysed for micro or nano mold fabrication. Si wafer, Glassy Carbon, STAVAX and DLC that have been normally considered as good micro or nano mold materials were used in the study.

  • Currently, polymer matrix nanocomposites (PMCs) are a prominent area of research due to their outstanding mechanical, thermal, and durability properties. The increase in recent studies justifies the possibility of using PMCs in structural retrofitting and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and serving as new structural material. Using nanotechnology, nanocomposite panels in flooring combine concrete and steel, providing a very high level of performance. In sports flooring, high-performance concrete has become a challenge for reducing sports injuries and refinement in rehabilitation. As a composite material, this type of resistant concrete is one of the most durable and complex multi-phase materials. This article uses polyvinyl alcohol polymer (PVC) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes as concrete matrix fillers. Solution methods have been used for dispersing PVC and carbon nanotubes in concrete. The water-cement ratio, carbon nanotube weight ratio, and heat treatment parameters influenced the concrete nanocomposite's tensile and compressive strength. The dispersion of carbon nanotubes in cement paste and the observation of nano-microcracks in concrete was evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM).

  • Tow Prepreg is the intermediate material for filament winding process that has been "pre-impregnated fiber tow" with resin system. As "dry filament winding" process emerges as a reliable alternative to conventional filament winding (called "wet filament winding") process, interest in tow prepreg as a material for dry filament winding is rising as well. In this article, we have reviewed the recent research trends in carbon fiber tow prepreg for high-performance rocket motor cases, fuel tanks for hydrogen vehicles and other high-quality commercial pressure vessels.

  • This paper investigates the effect of linear and non-linear distribution of carbon nanotube volume fraction in the FG-CNTRC beams on the critical buckling by using higher-order shear deformation theories. Here, the material properties of the CNTRC beams are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a new exponential power law distribution in terms of the carbon nanotube volume fractions. The single-walled carbon nanotube is aligned and distributed in the polymeric matrix with different patterns of reinforcement; the material properties of the CNTRC beams are described by using the rule of mixture. The governing equations are derived through using Hamilton's principle. The Navier solution method is used under the specified boundary conditions for simply supported CNTRC beams. The mathematical models provided in this work are numerically validated by comparison with some available results. New results of critical buckling with the non-linear distribution of CNT volume fraction in different patterns are presented and discussed in detail, and compared with the linear distribution. Several aspects of beam types, CNT volume fraction, exponent degree (n), aspect ratio, etc., are taken into this investigation. It is revealed that the influences of non-linearity distribution in the beam play an important role to improve the mechanical properties, especially in buckling behavior. The results show that the X-Beam configuration is the strongest among all different types of CNTRC beams in supporting the buckling loads.

  • In this paper, the nonlinear cylindrical bending of simply supported, functionally graded nanocomposite plates reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), is studied. The plates are subjected to uniform pressure loading in thermal environments and their geometric nonlinearity is introduced in the strain-displacement equations based on Von-Karman assumptions. The material properties of SWCNTs are assumed to be temperature-dependent and are obtained from molecular dynamics simulations. The material properties of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composites (FG-CNTCRs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction, and are estimated through a micromechanical model. The governing equations are reduced to linear differential equation with nonlinear boundary conditions yielding a simple solution procedure. Numerical results are presented to show the effect of the material distribution on the deflections and stresses.

  • CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) have been decorated on singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) by combining a method of chemically modified substrate along with gate-bias control. CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots were negatively charged by adding mercaptoacetic acid (MAA). The silicon oxide substrate was decorated by octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) and converted to hydrophobic surface. The negatively charged CdSe NCs were adsorbed on the SWCNT surface by applying the negative gate bias. The selective adsorption of CdSe quantum dots on SWCNTs was confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscope. The measured photocurrent clearly demonstrates that CdSe NCs decorated SWCNT can be used for photodetector and solar cell that are operable over a wide range of wavelengths.

  • The objective of this study was presented with a prediction on the alignment of cementite in pearlite lamella structure of high carbon steel by means of finite-element method(FEM) simulation. Pearlite strcuture was characterized by its nano-sized microstructure feature of alternation ferrite and cementite. FEM simulations were performed based on a suitable FE model describing the boundary conditions and the material behavior. With the alignment of lamella structure in high carbon pearlite steel wire, material plastic behavior was taken into account on plastic deformation and alignment of cementite. The effects of many important parameters(reduction in area, semi-die angle, initial angle of cementite ) on wire drawing process were predicted by DEFORM-2D. As the results, the possibility of wire fracture could be considerably reduced and the productivity of final product could be more increased than before.
