철도차량용 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로수명 향상 방안 연구 (A Study on Improving the Fatigue Life for a Woven Glass Fabric/Epoxy Laminate Composite Applied to Railway Vehicles)

  • 본 연구는 철도차량에 적용되는 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로특성 및 피로수명에 대해 평가하였다. 이때, 피로시험은 0.1의 응력비(R)와 5Hz의 주파수에서 인장-인장 하중 조건이 고려되었으며, 시험편은 카본/에폭시 플라이가 보강된 시험편과 보강되지 않은 시험편 두 가지 타입을 고려하였다. 또한, 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재의 피로수명을 평가하기 위해 철도차량 차체와 언더프레임에 주로 사용되는 알루미늄 6005와 비교하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 3장의 카본/에폭시 플라이가 보강된 직물 유리섬유/에폭시 적층 복합재 시험편이 보강되지 않은 기본 시험편보다 피로강도 및 피로수명이 크게 향상됨을 확인하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는, 전자파 흡수능을 가진 경사 복합재료 적층판를 설계할 수 있는 최적화 코드를 개발하였다. 또한, 유리 섬유/에폭시 직조 적층판, 알루미늄 첨가물을 함유간 유리섬유/에폭시 직조 적층판과 카본/에폭시 직조 적층판의 유전율을 구하고, 최적화 로드를 이용하여 3층형 전자파 흡수 복합재료 적층판을 개발하였다. 실험에 사용된 복합재료 적층판은 모두 전자기적으로 면내등방성을 가지며 따라서, 동축선과 망분석기를 이용하여 유전율을 측정하였다. 이 로드는 전자기적으로 직교이방성을 가지는 고분자기지 복합재료의 적층각을 포함한 다양한 변수를 고려할 수 있다.

  • A hybrid composite (APAL;Aramid Patched ALuminum alloy, CPAL;Carbon Patched ALluminum alloy), consisting of a Al 2024-T3 aluminum alloy plate sandwiched between two aramid/epoxy and carbon/epoxy laminate, was developed. Fatigue crack growth behavior was examined at stress ratios of R=0.2, 0.5. The APAL and CPAL showed superior fatigue crack growth resistance, which may be attributed to the crack bridging effect imposed by the intact fibers in the crack wake.

  • An apparatus was developed to repetitively apply a $-196^{\circ}C$ thermal load to coupon-sized mechanical test specimens. Using this device, IM7/5250-4 (carbon / bismaleimide) cross-ply and quasi-isotropic laminates were submerged in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) 400 times. Ply-by-ply micro-crack density, laminate modulus, and laminate strength were measured as a function of thermal cycles. Quasi-isotropic samples of IM7/977-3 (carbon / epoxy) composite were also manually cycled between liquid nitrogen and an oven set at $120^{\circ}C$ for 130 cycles to determine whether including elevated temperature in the thermal cycle significantly altered the degree or location of micro-cracking. In response to thermal cycling, both materials micro-cracked extensively in the surface plies fellowed by sparse cracking of the inner plies. The tensile modulus of the IM7/5250-4 specimens was unaffected by thermal cycling, but the tensile strength of two of the lay-ups decreased by as much as 8.5%.

  • Currently the technique of composite material field is developed day by day. The many kinds industrial facility and life articles are coming to make with the composite material. But still the engineering works field the building and the bridge uses the material which is old era and is making. To here there is a various problem but the biggest problem the theory of the composite material is complicated too and means that the application is been delayed about constructive structure. When the composite material is used widely from constructive field, too with difficult theory in technical expert and easily with the research for the experiment data accumulation is necessary. The tensile and fatigue test of the carbon/epoxy which is a high-class composite material led from the present paper consequently and the change of the intensity coefficient which follows in repeated load researched.

Carbon Fabric/Epoxy 적층판의 인장-압축 피로거동 (Tension-Compression Fatigue Behavior of Carbon Fabric/Epoxy Laminates)

  • In this paper, the tension-compression fatigue test method and the fatigue life characteristics of carbon fabric/epoxy laminate coupon are presented. To avoid the buckling during the compression, a proper design for the test coupons is essential. The critical buckling loads for the coupons are calculated by assuming the coupons as columns under two types of fixed conditions. The first is that both ends of each coupon are perfectly clamped, the second is that both ends of each coupon are simply supported. The strain-load curves are obtained by compressing the representative coupons, on each surface of which a strain gage is attached. The buckling loads obtained from the tests are all between the two calculated critical buckling loads. All the coupons are broken by the compression during the fatigue tests. It is estimated to be the reason that the fatigue load causes delamination before the eventual failure of each coupon, and sequentially the micro-buckling in the delaminated region drives each coupon into fatigue failure during the compression. The S-N curve, the fatigue life characteristics of carbon fabric/epoxy is obtained.

  • Thermal deformation behavior has been investigated for unsymmetric laminates composed of various kinds of material layers, such as stainless steel, aluminum, carbon/epoxy or glass/epoxy. The thermal deformations of unsymmetric laminates were predicted using the classical lamination theory and compared with those obtained from experimental measurement. In the case of unsymmetric laminate composed of stainless steel and aluminum layer, the experimental results were agreed well with the values predicted. But in the case of unsymmetric laminate composed of fiber composite layers, there was a considerable difference of thermal deformation between the prediction and experimental measurement, which may be from the change of material properties of fiber composite layers for temperature variation.

  • In these days, composite materials are applied to the military field like parts of air crafts, rockets, ammunitions and so on. As high pressure is loaded on the composite body, however, cracks or delamination phenomena can be occurred between layers of laminate. These cracks or delamination usually cause a deterioration of mechanical properties under the complicated loads. In this study, methods for improvement of the inter-laminar bonding strength of thick carbon/epoxy composite structures are suggested and discussed in terms of segment bending test.

  • In recents years, the statistical properties has become an important quantity for reliability based design of a component. The effects of the materials and test conditions for parameter estimation in residual strength degradation model are studied in carbon/epoxy laminate. It is shown that the correlation between the experimental results and the theoretical prediction on the fatigue life distribution using the life distribution convergence method is very reasonable.

  • This paper predicted the thermal conductivity of spun carbon/phenolic composites by the thermal resistance method. This method uses the analogy between the diffusion of heat and electrical charge. To verify the theoretical predictions, the thermal conductivity of spun carbon/phenolic composites was examined experimentally. The reported thermal conductivities of graphite/epoxy composite of a eight harness satin laminate was used of the comparison with the prediction values of the model and it was noticed that a good agreement has been found.
