The results was as follows. 1. YP has suppress inflammatory reaction induced by carageenan. 2. YP has suppress increasing activation of abdominal cavity macrophage in the carageen and zymosan induced inflammation. 3. YP has suppress increasing activation of spleen cell in the carageenan and zymosan induced inflammation. Based on the above result, YP was improved its suppression effect to the inflammatory reaction through the suppression of spleen cell and macrophage activation. So we concluded that YP is prospected as a anti-inflammatory agent to cure inflammation induced by ance.
In this study, we investigated the effects of ostrich extract combined with Korean herb medicine(OEKHM) on the serum parameters in carageenan induced paw edema in rats. Carageenan causes enhanced edema formation which contributes to the pathophysiology of inflammation. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. There were four groups of treatments: OEKHMs and the control. After treatment with oral doses of 3 mL/180 g BW. 3 kinds of OEKHMs were processed which were ostrich bone with flesh meat with herb medicine(BFH), ostrich bone with flesh meat(BF), and ostrich bone with internal organs(BI). The contents of crude fat of the BFH was lower, but crude protein and crude ash of the BFH were significantly higher than those of the BF and the BI. In case of the levels of minerals(Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn ) of the BFH were significantly higher than those of BF and BI. And the heavy metals(Pb and Cd) were not detected in the OEKHM. The serum level of triglyceride in the BFH treated group decreased compared to that of the edema induced group. The serum levels of HDL-cholesterol concentration in the BFH supplemented group increased compared to that of the other groups. The serum levels of minerals(Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu and Zn) of the BFH treated group significantly increased than those of other groups(p<0.05).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of electroacupuncture on pain threshold and 5-HT synthesis in raphe magnus nucleus of dog brain stem following nociception induced by 1% carageenan. Method: Twenty male dogs were randomly divided into two groups, a control group and an electroacupuncture group with the following parameters: ST36, LI11 and SP9 with 120Hz and 0.5mA. The dogs were sacrificed at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 min after nociception using 1% carageenan injection into the plantar side of the dog's left leg. The pain threshold was recorded by an Analgesia-meter. After making brain slice sections, the tissues were immunostained with 5-HT antisera (1:2,500). Results: The pain threshold for the electroacupuncture group was higher than for the control group. The number of 5-HT immunoreactive neurons in the electroacupuncture group was greater than that of the control group. Differences between the two groups regarding the number of 5-HT immunoreactive neurons at 30 min and 60 min (p<0.05), at 120 min and 150 min (p<0.01), and at 8 days (p<0.05) were significant. Conclusion: The increases in pain threshold and number of 5-HT immunoreactive neurons in the raphe magnus nucleus of dog brain stem showed that electroacupuncture can attenuate pain transduction through the descending tract.

In order to Develop a low Na functional kimchi using sea tangle, the Na-binding capacity of alginate in sea tangle along with other dietary fibers was evaluated in vitro. The adding type and amount of the sea tangle that contains alginate in kimhi and characteristics of the sea tangle added kimchi were also studied. Na-binding capacity of various dietary fibers such as cellulose, pectin, gun gum, carageenan, alginates (sodium alginate, alginate, alginate from sea tangle) was measured by equilibrium dialysis method in pH 2 and pH 7 in vitro. Gua gum, carageenan and a group of alginates effectively bound to Na+ Espacially sodium alginate showed high Na-binding capacity of 29.2% in pH of stomach (pH 2.0) and 33.8% in pH of small intestine (pH 7.0), however, the alginate extracted from sea tangle could not bind Na in PH of stomach (pH 2.0), but 27.4% in pH of small intestine (pH 7.0) condition. The content of alginate in sea tangles (dried sea tangle, salted sea tangle and washed salted sea tangle) was 19.8 ~ 22.2% on dry matter basis. The sea tangle added kimchi was prepared with the addition of the flake type (0.5$\times$3 cm) of sea tangle with a quantity of 30% in kimchi from the data of the sensory analysis. The addition of the sea tangle to the kimchi increased the content of soluble dietary fiber, suggesting the Na-binding capacity increased. The sea tangle added kimchi (SK) and sea tangle and fermented anchovy added kimchi (SAK) showed higher levels of reducing sugar and acidity than the control kimchi (CK). In quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA) SK and SAK showed higher score in overall acceptance, and lower score in acidic order than CK, however, SK showed less moldy taste and more fresh acidic taste than SAK.
Objectives : The biological activities and compound contents of herbal medicine vary depending on manufacturing processes. In this study, we compared anti-inflammatory effects and compound contents of three kinds of multi-herbal extract HT008 produced by different manufacturing processes in order to determine chemical and biological equivalence. Methods : HT008 was produced by three different manufacturing methods: 1. Freeze dried extract of Eleutherococcus senticosus, Scutellaria baicalensis and Angelica sinensis (HT008 FD), 2. Spray dried extract of E. senticosus and S. baicalensis combined with reflux extract of A. sinensis (HT008 SD), 3. Spray dried extract of E. senticosus and S. baicalensis combined with supercritial fluid extract of A. sinensis (HT008 SF). Anti-inflammatory effects were evaluated using acetic acid induced pain model and ${\lambda}$-carageenan induced paw edema model. Compound contents were evaluated by HPLC quantitative analysis of standard compounds of HT008, eleutheroside E, baicalin, z-ligustilide. Results : HT008 FD, HT008 SD and HT008 SF significantly decreased acetic acid induced pain index and ${\lambda}$-carrageenan induced paw edema volume compared with that of control group. There was no significant difference in efficacy among the HT008 FD, HT008 SD and HT008 SF. Standard compound contents of HT008 FD, HT008 SD and HT008 SF were quantified within the range of Korean pharmacopoeia or other research. Conclusions : Three different manufacturing methods of multi-herbal extracts have been developed without noticeable difference in the efficacy or compound contents. The results might be used to establish manufacturing process and industrialization of herbal extracts.
Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) equipment is a new innovative technique for 3D automatic breast scanning, but limited for the examination in the concave axillary region. The purpose of this study was to determine feasible candidate materials for the ultrasonic wave propagation media in ABUS, enabling the evaluation of the axillary region. Ultrasonography was performed using an ABUS system ($Invenia^{TM}ABUS$, GE, USA) on the ultrasound-specific phantom (UC-551M-0.5, ATS Laboratories, USA) covered by different candidate materials. The validity of feasible candidate materials was evaluated by image quality. Three independent radiological technologists, with more than 10 years of experience, visually assessed on the images. The inter-observer agreements according to the candidate materials were tested using Cronbach's alpha. Unenveloped solidified carrageenan can be a feasible material for the use of ABUS with excellent test reliability. Therefore, the coverage of the axillary region with carrageenan may be effective for ABUS which was originally developed for the convex anatomic structure as female breast.
These works were designed to examine the effects of dietary fiber sources and levels on lipid metabolism in rats fed high lard diet. Rats were divided into three($\alpha$-cellulose, polydextrose, carrageenan) groups and were fed with containing 6% fiber diet. Serum, liver and fecal lipid contents were examined after four weeks of dieting. Also, in order to investigate whether hypocholesterolemic effect of dietary fiber at 4 weeks is continued at 8 weeks, rats were fed with diets containing same sources with different levels of each dietary fiber and were sacrificed after eight weeks of dieting. Serum cholesterol in rats fed carrageenan diet and polydextrose diet were reduced compared with $\alpha$-cellulose-fed group at both four and eight weeks dieting. Liver cholesterol in both polydextrose-fed and carrageenan-fed group were lower than $\alpha$-cellulose-fed group. Fecal total group were increased compared with $\alpha$-cellulose-fed group. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between polydextrose-fed and carrageenan-fed group. On the basis of the results, it was suggested that the hypocholesterolemic effect of soluble fiber used in this study (polydextrose, carageenan) on rats was due to the inhibition of cholesterol absorption on the intestinal lumen and acceleration of cholesterol catabolism in the liver and enhancement of bile acids excretion. On the other hand, insoluble fiber($\alpha$-cellulose) showed no hypo-cholesterolemic effect.
