  • This study explores the applicability of social capital theory in IT project management. Specifically, an empirical model is developed using different types of leadership competencies (emotional, cognitive, and social) as independent constructs impacting IT project performance. Social capital shared among team members are measured and placed as a mediating construct between leadership competencies and performance. Using PLS analysis of 120 data points collected through a survey of IT project participants in two large electronic manufacturers, direct and indirect impacts of leadership competencies are explicated. Research results reveal that emotional leadership competency seems to directly influence the project performance but not through team social capital, while social leadership competency seems to indirectly influence the project performance through team social capital but not directly onto the project performance. Cognitive leadership competency is the only leadership competency that maintains direct and indirect influence on project performance. Total effect of cognitive competency on project performance is almost two times larger than the total effect of emotional leadership competency and six times larger than the total effect of social leadership competency. Implications of findings are discussed at the end, and further studies are suggested.

  • Social capital is the basis for enabling regional development, and although it is the result of regional development that produces greater productivity through the combination of human and material capital, there is a lack of discussions in connection with rural development. This study saw that the local capacity building project affects the social capital of the local residents and such social network is realized through the rural area development project based on the participation of the residents. As a result of the analysis, the regional capacity building project has a positive influence on the social capital of the region and the willingness to participate in the project, and bridge-type social capital has shown a mediating effect on education and consulting fields. Only when local social capital, especially bridge-type social capital, is cultivated through the regional capacity building project can the project be transformed into one suitable for local conditions through active participation of residents.

  • Group social capital can be defined as an intangible asset that promotes knowledge sharing and social interaction. It is posited here that the group social capital raised and nurtured among group members positively influences on team performance in IS (Information Systems) development projects. And communication effectiveness is selected as a critical antecedent and its detailed relationships with the dimensions of group social capital are analyzed. Effective communication plays important role in ISD project teams by integrating knowledge from different areas. Moderating effects of project phase between the sub-dimensions of social capital and project performance are investigated. Hypotheses are tested using data from 131 project teams of 85 manufacturing firms. The results indicated that Communication effectiveness positively impacted sub-dimensions of social capital (social ties, trust, and shared vision). Moreover, the team performance is influenced by shared vision and trust, leaving social ties as a leading subcontract, as theoretically proposed in prior research. The project phase moderates the impact of shared vision on team performance.

  • This study investigates income support, labor opportunities, and social capital by the demographic characteristics of the elderly who participate in the elderly job project, and especially the relationship between social and quality of life. We want to provide empirical data on how the elderly vocational business ultimately affects the lives of the elderly through the intervention of social capital. The intervention effect of social capital is as follows. Satisfaction with the elderly job project has a great impact on the quality of life, trust, network, and social participation. In particular, trust in the quality of life of the elderly had a great influence on the quality of life and was indirectly effective. In addition, the intervention of social participation between social capital was known, and the elderly job project increased social participation to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Therefore, it can be evaluated that the elderly job project has an important positive effect on the quality of life of the elderly, and the social capital formed through the elderly job project plays a role in directly or indirectly improving the quality of life of the elderly.

  • Project value can be increased by implementing the most suitable one or more Value Management Processes (VMP). For the past decades, a variety of innovative management processes have been increasingly introduced into the construction industry. Each VMP is considered to be significantly beneficial for capital facility projects to proactively achieve one or more project value objectives. This paper covers the compilation of the 44 VMPs and provides their leveraging project characteristics that require the implementation of one or more VMPs. The results of data collection establish relative importance between the VMPs and the project characteristic factors in collaboration with 51 experts from both industry and academia. In the lack of industry awareness of both VMPs and their causal factors, the results of this study can facilitate the implementation of the VMPs and ultimately enhance the value of a particular capital project.

  • This article deals with an economic evalutation of the 'Pasture Project of Kum River', which is the farming plan of mitten crabs in a stream of it. An augmented model of social capital is based on the past ecological-economic system dynamics model and elaborated further with suggestions of social capital literature. During the modeling process a chain diagram of causal relations and its relevant mathematical equations are presented for simulating the project performance, and the simulation results are provided to contrast the dynamic behaviors of the former ecological-economic model with ones of the new model incorporating social capital. The results indicate that an increase in the economic benefit of the project could happen in case of considering the process of social capital accumulation around the case area, which can be regarded as a remarkable trial to approve the common confidence in the role of social capital to enhance an economic achievement.

  • IT project teams are composed of experts from various domains with different backgrounds, such as business and technologies. Thus, enhancing knowledge sharing and increasing team social capital are critical for the success of the project. This study examines the relationship among the team social capital, team climate and team performance. A research model and hypotheses are developed from literature review and empirically validated. The research model consists of team social capital, team climate and team performance. Specifically, team social capital, as antecedents, wasconceptualized asinternal and external differentiated by team boundary, and team climate is conceptualized as innovative climate and supportive climate. Using measures adopted from previous studies, 166 data points were collected to test the research model and related hypotheses. PLS data analysis indicated that internal and external social capitalhave positive effect on innovative climate while internal social capital has a positive effect on supportive team climate. The innovative and supportive climate has significant effect on the team performance. Based on the results, we proposed several team management skills for IT project managers. Theoretical constributions are discussed at the end with limitations and further studies.

  • The government is in the process of pursuing various resident-driven rural development projects for rural development. Accordingly, the government is promoting various software projects to enhance social capital in order to effectively involve residents in rural development projects. However, residents' participation in rural development projects is still passive, while passive residents' involvement creates various problems such as conflicts among residents in the process of project implementation and poor operation after project implementation. This study is intended to be a basis for inducing voluntary community participation in rural development projects by disclosing the intention of residents to participate in the community's internal solidarity with social capital and connection with external communities. According to the analysis of 195 rural residents, three groups were divided according to the level of social capital awareness. While individualist groups with low integration and social capital were 25.1%, they were more integrated, but the average family-oriented group was 42.5%, and social-development groups with high integration and linked social capital were 32.3%. This study is meaningful in that it revealed that the social capital of the resident community is an important factor in both the internal solidarity (integrity) and the external community connection (connectivity) in the rural area development project.
