Experimental results for performance characteristics of HCs refrigerant R-1270 and HCFC refrigerant R-22 during refrigeration system using capillary tube are presented. The system consists of compressor, condenser, capillary tube, evaporator and peripheral devices. Length and diameter of capillary tube are varied for this investigation. The refrigerant mass flow increased as the diameter of capillary tube increased and the length of capillary tube decreased. A refrigeration capacity and compressor work of R-1270 in same length and diameter of capillary tube showed the higher values than those of R-22. A coefficient of performance showed the highest value when the length and diameter of capillary tube are 105 cm and 1.8 mm in this experimental conditions.

An experimental study was performed to investigate the optimum cycle of an inverter heat pump as a function of frequency. The performance of the inverter heat pump with the rated cooling capacity of 4,141 W(3,550kcal/h) was measured with a variation of frequency, indoor and outdoor temperature, and length of capillary tube in the psychrometric test room. As a base case, the inverter heat pump with the standard capillary length of l,000mm(optimum size for the frequency of 60Hz) and ASHRAE Test condition "A" was tested by varying frequency from 30Hz to 80Hz. Then, the optimum cycles were investigated by varying the length of capillary tube at each frequency level of 30, 60 and 80Hz. Based on the experimental data, the change of system characteristics between the optimum and the base case were analyzed for each selected frequency level. Generally, for low frequency level(30Hz), the longer length of the capillary tube compared with the standard size showed the higher energy efficiency ratio(EER), while for high frequency level(80Hz) the shorter length of the capillary tube showed the higher EER.

This paper is an experimental study on the performance according to a capillary tube diameter and length in a domestic small multi refrigerator[kimchi refrigerator]. Pressure drop in a capillary tube is predicted by theoretical analysis and experimental method as the reduction of capillary tube diameter from 0.74 to 0.6 mm. The differences between experimental results and analytical results are mainly caused by friction factor in a capillary tube. Because there are no adequate equations used to calculate pressure drop of capillary tube diameter under 1.0mm. The empirical equations necessary for interpretation of capillary tube were derived from capillary tube test results data using curve fitting method. This study shows that the optimized designs of system, which is capillary tube length and refrigerant charge amount, are 2000mm, 83g at the capillary tube diameter 0.6mm and 3000mm, 73g at the capillary tube diameter 0.74mm. And capillary design tools and system matching techniques necessary for development of the kimchi refrigerator were also developed through this study.
This paper is an experimental study on the performance characteristic with a variation of capillary diameter and length. The performance characteristic of a refrigeration system is predicted that it is occurring changes of flow pattern and pressure drop in a capillary tube because of reduction of capillary diameter 0.74 to 0.6 mm. The difference between experimental results and analytical results is mainly caused by values of friction factor for using to calculate pressure drop through a small diameter capillary tube under 0.74mm. The experimental equation is derived from capillary tube test data using curve fitting method.

In this paper, the prediction of adiabatic capillary tube of heat pump using carbon dioxide is investigated theoretically and experimentally to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of this system. The operating parameters considered in this study include evaporation temperature, cooling pressure of gas cooler, mass flowrate, and the length and diameter of capillary tube. Based on study results of several researchers, the correlation predicting the length of capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed. And the experimental results of evaporation temperature, mass flowrate and cooling pressure in adiabatic capillary tube have an good agreement to those calculated from Eq. (3) within 0.63~10.9%. Therefore, the prediction calculating the length of adiabatic capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed at the given conditions such as cooling pressure, evaporation temperature and capillary tube diameter.

Performance charts of capillary tubes for R-134a are presented. The calculation is based on the one-dimensional, adiabatic flow through capillary tube. The length of capillary tube changes with inlet pressure, mass flux, inlet quality(or subcooling), and inside diameter. The length for R-134a is shorter by 12.5~23% than that for R-12 as mass flux varies, by 13~18.5% as inlet pressure changes, by 15~15.2% as inside diameter changes, and by 3.6~20% as subcooling(or quality) changes. In general, the length for R-134a is shorter than that for R-12 by 10~20%. Pressure drop per unit length for R-134a is greater than that for R-12 since specific volume of R-134a is larger that of R-12 and vapor pressure of R-134a is greater than that of R-12. Flash point of R-134a is ahead of that of R-12.

A simulation program was developed to evaluate the heat transfer performance of a multi-pass fin-tube evaporator, considering the pressure drop in the distributor and capillary tubes. The effect of capillary tube length for each pass was analyzed with various inlet air flow types and distributions. The appropriate capillary tube length distribution and correlation were determined for various inlet air flow types and distributions. The correlated results agreed well with the simulation, with an average error of less than 7%. By applying an optimal capillary tube length distribution, the heat transfer rate was increased by 4~5% compared to cases with uniform tubelength distributions, for each of the inlet air flow types and distributions considered in this study.

In this paper, pressure drop through a capillary tube is modeled to determine the length of a capillary tube for a given set of conditions. HCFC-22 and its alternatives, HFC-134a, R407B, and R410A are used as working fluids. The conditions on which the model is tested are as follows : condensing temperature; 40.0, 45.0, 50.0, $55.0^{\circ}C$, degree of subcooling;0.0, 2.5, $5.0^{\circ}C$, capillary tube exit condition;choked flow, capillary tube diameter;1.2~2.4mm, mass flow rate;5.0~50.0g/sec. The results justify the use of Stoecker's model which yields the results very close to the values in ASHRAE handbook. While McAdams' method yields much better results than Duckler's in calculating the viscosity of the fluid in 2-phase, the friction factor suggested by Stoecker seems to be the best for capillary tubes of large diameter used in residential air conditioners. For each refrigerant, 372 data with various variables are calculated by the model. The results show that capillary tube length varies very uniformly with changes in condensing temperature and degree of subcooling. Based on this fact, regression analysis is performed to determine the dependence of mass flow rate on the length and diameter of a capillary tube, condensing temperature, and degree of subcooling. Thus determined correlation yields a mean deviation of 2.36% for 1,488 data, showing an excellent agreement.

In this paper, experimental investigation of capillary tube performance for R-407C is performed. The experimental setup is made of real vapor-compression refrigerating system. In this study, mass flow rate is measured for capillary tubes of various diameter and length as inlet pressure and degree of subcooling are changed. These data are compared with the results of a numerical model. The mass flow rates of the numerical model are less than by 14% compared with the measured mass flow rates. It is found that mass flow rate and length for R-407c are less than those of R-22 under the same condition. Also based on this experimental study and the numerical model, a set of capillary tube selection charts for R-407C is constructed.
