We present a top down separation platform for yeast ribosomal proteins using affinity chromatography and capillary electrophoresis which is designed to allow deposition of proteins onto a substrate. FLAG tagged ribosomes were affinity purified, and rRNA acid precipitation was performed on the ribosomes followed by capillary electrophoresis to separate the ribosomal proteins. Over 26 peaks were detected with excellent reproducibility (<0.5% RSD migration time). This is the first reported separation of eukaryotic ribosomal proteins using capillary electrophoresis. The two stages in this workflow, affinity chromatography and capillary electrophoresis, share the advantages that they are fast, flexible and have small sample requirements in comparison to more commonly used techniques. This method is a remarkably quick route from cell to separation that has the potential to be coupled to high throughput readout platforms for studies of the ribosomal proteome.
In this study, capillary columns for ion chromatography were developed to analyze trace amount of ions in samples. When small I.D. capillary columns are used in ion chromatography, the typical flow rate of the mobile phase is $5{\sim}15{\mu}L/min$ and the typical column length is 50~150 mm. The capillary columns were made using RSL-300 fused silica capillary(I.D.: 0.53 mm, O.D.: 0.67 mm) and AG14 column resin(support : polystyrene-divinylbenzene, functional group : alkyl quaternary ammonium). The new conductivity cell and suppressor were also developed and made for capillary column ion chromatography. When several anions (fluoride, nitrite, nitrate, chlorate) were analyzed using these capillary columns, reproducible and good chromatograms were obtained.
This paper describes the design of a small size Alkali Metal Thermal to Electric Converter (AMTEC) which employs a capillary structure for recirculating sodium working fluid. The cycle is based on the simple and small capillary type ${\beta}"$ -alumina and wick tube element. The proposed cell consists of the 37 conversion elements with capillary tube of $50{\mu}m$ in diameter and the sealed cylindrical vessel of 22mm in outer diameter. Results on the cycle analysis of sodium flow and heat transfer in the cell showed that the expected power output was 4.65W and the conversion efficiency was 19% for the source temperature of 900K.
Porocarcinoma (PC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) are distinct skin cancers. Few studies have documented the occurrence of two concurrent types of skin cancers, and to the best of our knowledge, this represents the inaugural report of such a coexisting lesion arising from a capillary malformation. Herein, we report a case of concurrent PC and BCC presenting with capillary malformation. A 93-year-old woman visited our hospital with a protruding mass in her right nasal ala that appeared as a capillary malformation. A biopsy was performed on the skin lesion, and BCC was diagnosed. A wide excision was performed. Permanent biopsy revealed that the skin lesion was a PC with basal cells and squamous differentiation. The safety margin of the deep tissue margin was < 0.1 cm; however, considering the advanced age of the patient, further excision was deemed to not possess any benefits. This case illustrates the importance of recognizing the possibility of multiple skin cancers, even in patients with benign lesions such as capillary malformations. The rarity of this presentation highlights the importance of thorough investigation and histopathological examination of skin lesions in guiding appropriate surgical excision.
A newly designed mass-detecting capillary viscometer uses a novel concept to continuously measure non-Newtonian fluids viscosity over a range of shear rates. A single measurement of liquid-mass variation with time replaces the now rate and pressure drop measurements that are usually required by capillary tube viscometers. Using a load cell and a capillary, we measured change in the mass flow rate through a capillary tube with respect to the time, m(t), from which viscosity and shear rate were mathematically calculated. For aqueous polymer solutions, excellent agreement was found between the results from the mass-detecting capillary viscometer and those from a commercially available rotating viscometer. This new method overcomes the drawbacks of conventional capillary viscometers meassuring non-Newtonian fluid viscosity. First, the mass-detecting capillary viscometer can accurately and consistently measure non -Newtonian viscosity over a wide range of shear rate extending as low as 1 s$\^$-1/. Second, this design provides simplicity (i. e., ease of operation, no moving parts), and low cost.
In this study, open tubular capillary columns for ion charomatography were developed to analyze trace amount of ions in samples. When small I,D. capillary column length is 1.0~5.0 m. The capillary columns were made using fused silica capillary(I.D:50㎛) and DMEOHA latex particles. The new conductivity cell and suppressor were also developed and made for capillary column ion chromatography. When several anions(fluoride, nitrite, nitale, chlorate, phosphte, sulfate) were analyzed using these capillary columns. reproducible and good chromatograms were obtained.
Taurine has a neuroprotective action from oxidative stress in neural cell. In the present study, we studied taurine transport under basal and stressed conditions in conditionally immortalized rat brain capillary endothelial cell line (TR-BBB13) in vitro. The uptake of[$^3{H}$]taurine in the TR-BBB13 was increased by time-dependently and dependent on both Na$^{+}$ and Cl/ sup -/. Furthermore, $\beta$-alanine strongly inhibited the uptake of [TEX>$^3{H}$]taurine in the TR-BBB13. To study the effcts of oxidative stress on taurine transport, we used diethyl maleate (DEM) and lipopolysccharide (LPS). Diethyl maleate (DEM, $300\Mu\textrm{M}$) significantly reduced uptake of [TEX>$^3{H}$]taurine by time-dependently until 8 hr exposure in TR-BBB 13. But, the [TEX>$^3{H}$]taurine uptake was not changed by lipopolysccharide (LPS, 10 ng/ml) in TR-BBB13.3.
In this study, conductivity cell and suppressor for micro-column ion chromatography were developed to analyze ions in small columns of samples. With a capillary column, the flow rate of the mobile phase is so small (usually $5{\sim}20{\mu}L/min$) that the usual conductivity cell can not be used. Therefore, we developed a new type of conductivity cell and suppressor which have small inner volumes. The conductivity cell was made with two Pt hypodermic needles (i.d. 0.010 mm) which are slightly separated (about $2{\mu}m$), and the suppressor was made of Nafion tubings. When several anions(fluoride, nitrite, nitrate, chlorate) were analyzed using developed conductivity cell and suppressor, a good chromatogram was obtained.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the early irradiation changes on the ultrastructure of the capillary endothelial cell in the rat submandibular glands. For the study, 110 Sprague-Dawley strain male rats were singly irradiated to their neck regions with the doses of 2Gy, 5Gy, and 10Gy by 6MV X -irradiation, and sacrificed on the 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 14 days after irradiation. The authors observed the histologic and ultrastructural changes of the capillary endothelial cell using the light and electron microscopes. The results were as follows: I. In the light microscopic examination, the capillary dilation was observed on the 6 hours group and the capillary density was slightly increased on the 12 hours group after 2Gy and 5Gy irradiation. And luminal size and capillary density were decreased on the 3 days and the 7 days groups after irradiation, after then, they were recovered. But capillary density was still decreased on the 14 days group after 10Gy irradiation. 2. In the transmission electron microscopic examination, the mild proliferation of cytoplasmic process of the endothelial cell and reduction in luminal size were observed on the 3 hours group after irradiation. After then, endothelial swelling, marked proliferation of cytoplasmic process, thickened basal lamina, and numerous pinocytotic vesicles were observed after the 1 day group after irradiation. Thickened basal lamina and numerous pinocytotic vesicles were still observed until the 7 days group after irradiation. These changes were recovered to normal on the 14 days group after 2Gy and 5Gy irradiation, but not after 10Gy irradiation. 3. In the scanning electron microscopic examination, the dilation of conduits and constriction, and meandering were observed on the 1 day group after 10Gy irradiation. These changes were observed with increased coarseness of the surface of the vascular resin casting on the 3 days group after irradiation. 4. From the above results, endothelial swelling, proliferation of cytoplasmic process, and thickening of the basal lamina appeared before the 6 hours group after irradiation. And these changes may also induce the increase of the capillary number and luminal size, after then, capillary permeability was increased via the increase of the number of pinocytotic vesicles. The changes were observed earlier and more apparent with the increase of the irradiation doses under the dose of 10Gy irradiation.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the irradiatiion effects on the capillary and endothelial cell in the submandibular gland. Sprague-Dawley strain male rats were singly irradiated to their neck region with the dose of 5Gy by 6MV X-irradiation and sacrificed on the 6 hours, 12 hours, 1, 3, 7, and 14days after irradiation. The authors observed the histological changes of the capillary at H & E and PAS staining under a light microscope, and also observed the ultrastructural changes of the endothelial cell using a transmission electron microscope. The obtaining results were as follows: 1. In the light microscopic examination, the capillary density was slightly increased on the 1day after irradiation, and increased until the 7 days after irradiatiion. After then, capillary density was apparently decreased. 2. The reaction to PAS staining at acinar cells was decreased on the 6 hours after irradiation, and recovered on the 7days after irradiation. But reaction was decreased on the 14days after irradiation agan, after then, gradually recovered with days. 3. In the transmission electron microscopic examination, mild proliferation of cytoplasmic process of the endothelial cell and reduction in luminal size were observed just after irradiation. After then, nuclear degeneration, marked proliferation of cytoplasmic process, thickened basal lamina, and numerous cytoplasmic vesicles were observed on the 1day after irradiation. These changes were recovered to normal on the 14days after 5Gy group, but not with 10Gy irradiation group. And destruction of endothelial cell and loss of basal lamina were not observed in both groups. 4. From the above results, reduction in luminal size, proliferation of cytoplasmic process and thickening of basal lamina were observed as the irradiation effects on the capillary and endothelial cell of the submandibular gland. And also, these changes may induce increase in capillary number and endothelial permeability by means of increase of cytoplasmic vesicle formation. The changes appeared earlier and more prominent in 10Gy irradiated group than in 5Gy irradiated group.
