In this paper, post-earthquake capacity evaluation method of reinforced concrete buildings was studied. Substructure pseudo-dynamic test and static loading test of first story column in a four-story R/C building was carried out in order to investigate the validity of the evaluation method proposed in the Damage Assessment Guideline (JBDPA 2001). In pseudo-dynamic test, different levels of damage were induced in the specimens by pre-loading, and input levels of seismic motion, at which the specimens reached to the ultimate stage, were examined. From the experimental result, no significant difference in damage levels such as residual crack width between the specimens under static and pseudo-dynamic loading was found. It is shown that the seismic capacity reduction factors ${\eta}$ can provide a reasonable estimation of post-earthquake seismic capacity of R/C buildings suffered earthquakes.

The bearing capacity of open-ended piles is affected by the degree of soil plugging, which is quantified by the IFR. There is not at present a design criterion for open-ended piles that explicitly considers the effect of IFR on pile load capacity In order to investigate this effect, model pile load tests using a calibration chamber were conducted on instrumented open-ended piles. The results of these tests show that the IFR increases with increasing relative density and increasing horizontal stress of soils. The unit base and shaft resistances decrease with increasing IFR. Based on the results of the model pile tests, new empirical relations for base load capacity and shaft load capacity of open-ended piles are proposed. In order to check the accuracy of predictions made with the proposed equations, the equations were applied to the full-scale pile load test preformed in this study, Based on the comparisons with the pile load test results, the proposed equations appear to produce satisfactory predictions.

This paper estimates the capacity of shunt type active power filters(APF) for harmonic/reactive power compensation with a thyristor converter load. The base capacity requirement of APF is defined for idealized converter load current waveform and the effect of commutation overlap on the APF capacity is examined. The APF capacity required for reactive power compensation in addition to the harmonic elimination is estimated to give maximum achievable power factor for various operating condition of the partially-loaded thyristor converter. The method of current limit of APF is introduced, and it is shown that the APF capacity can be considerably reduced by deliberately limiting the peak current while maintaining the filtering performance to meet the level std 519 regulation.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of mortar-filled sleeve bar splice using estimation method of failure mode in the sleeve reinforcement splice. To attain this goal, we analyzed the test results of 261 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve splice specimens. The study results showed that the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve bar splice made an effective estimate of the stiffness in this bar splice with the exception of specimens with SD500 bars and smooth pipe sleeve. Especially, of the specimens with cast sleeve or uneven pipe sleeve in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, specimens over 98% with SD400 bars and all specimens with SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in monotonic loading. In addition, of the specimens in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, all specimens with SD400 bars and SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in cyclic loading.

Rapid increase of maritime traffic volume and the increase of vessel size make it indispensible for the fairway designer to estimate the traffic capacity of a fairway at its early design stage. In this paper, as one of the methods to estimate the maritime traffic capacity of a fairway, operating rate of a fairway is defined and reviewed together with its basic characteristics, which is a brief estimation model based on bumper model around a ship. The method is applied to the approach channels of major harbors in Korea to give some guidelines on the acceptable traffic capacity of a fairway. In spite of its simplicity, this method can be used as an effective tool to discriminate whether the principal dimension of a fairway is enough or not from the viewpoint of maritime traffic capacity at its initial design stage.
In order to estimate the carrying capacity of oyster culture ground in Kamak Bay, primary productivity was calculated using the ecosystem model. The allowable maximum oyster production, namely, the carrying capacity of Kamak Bay was estimated by using the annual phytoplankton production and conversion coefficient to oyster meat. On the environmental conditions of oyster culture period from lune, 1994 to March, 1995, phytoplankton production, the allowable maximum oyster production were estimated to be 181,594 tons of carbon and 287,033 tons of oyster meat, respectively. The allowable maximum oyster production was estimated to be 15,443 tons in the actual culture ground where oyster culture facilities are installed in Kamak Bay. In 1994 4,532 tons of actual oyster meat production was equivalent to ra. $29\%$ of carrying capacity, and in 1987 it was 14,592 tons equivalent to ca. $95\%$.
The measurement of pile bearing capacity is crucial for the design of pile foundations, where in-situ tests could be costly and time needed. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the potential use of fuzzy-based techniques to anticipate the maximum weight that concrete driven piles might bear. Despite the existence of several suggested designs, there is a scarcity of specialized studies on the exploration of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) for the estimation of pile bearing capacity. This paper presents the introduction and validation of a novel technique that integrates the fire hawk optimizer (FHO) and equilibrium optimizer (EO) with the ANFIS, referred to as ANFISFHO and ANFISEO, respectively. A comprehensive compilation of 472 static load test results for driven piles was located within the database. The recommended framework was built, validated, and tested using the training set (70%), validation set (15%), and testing set (15%) of the dataset, accordingly. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis is performed in order to determine the impact of each input on the output. The results show that ANFISFHO and ANFISEO both have amazing potential for precisely calculating pile bearing capacity. The R2 values obtained for ANFISFHO were 0.9817, 0.9753, and 0.9823 for the training, validating, and testing phases. The findings of the examination of uncertainty showed that the ANFISFHO system had less uncertainty than the ANFISEO model. The research found that the ANFISFHO model provides a more satisfactory estimation of the bearing capacity of concrete driven piles when considering various performance evaluations and comparing it with existing literature.

Imaginary grass field was assumed suitable as the representative one for simplified estimation of local drought, and a moisture balance booking model computing drought was developed with the limited numbers of its determining factors, such as crop coefficient of the field, reservoir capacity of the soil, and the beginning point of drought as defined by soil moisture status. The maximum effective rainfall was assumed to be the same as the available free space of soil reservoir capacity. The model is similar to a definite depth evaporation pan, which stores rainfall as much as the available free space on the water in it and consumes the water by evaporation. When the pan keeps water less than a certain defined level, it is droughty. The model simulates soil moisture deficit on the assumed grass field for the drought estimation. The model can assess the water requirement, drought intensity, and the index of yield decrement due to drought. The influencing intensity indices of the selected factors were 100, 21, and 16 respectively for crop coefficient, reservoir capacity, and drought beginning point, determined by the annual water requirements as influenced by them in the model. The optimum values of the selected factors for the model were respectively 58% for crop coefficient defined on the energy indicator scale of the small copper pan evaporation, 50 mm for reservoir capacity on the basis of the average of experimentally determined values for sandy loam, loam, clay loam, and clay soils, and 65% of the reservoir capacity for the beginning point of drought.
