Capacitance Aging Behavior of Acceptor-Doped BaTiO3 under DC Electrical Field (직류 전계에 의한 Acceptor 첨가 BaTiO3의 유전특성 열화 현상)

  • Effects of MgO or $R_2O_3$(R:Dy, Ho, Yb) on the capacitance aging behavior of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) based on $BaTiO_3$ dielectrics under DC electrical fields has been studied. At a DC field of 1 $V{/\mu}m$, the capacitance of MLCC specimens dropped immediately in a very short period (<10 s, the first stage) and then decreased continuously with time (the second stage). Mn doping significantly increased the aging rate in the second stage. The addition of MgO or $R_2O_3$ notably decreased the second stage aging rate of Mn-doped specimens. Yb doping gives rise to the lowest aging rate in the second stage, which is due to the larger population of defect dipoles associated with oxygen vacancies.

  • In this paper the thermal aging characteristics of transformer fluid were considered. First, the temperature rise characteristic in transformer winding was discussed. The temperatures were rapidly increased immediately with applying load and then the temperature was followed the exponential temperature rise model. Next, Capacitance and leakage current characteristics of the transformer fluid were measured during the over-loading operation. The capacitance of vegetable fluid and leakage current were evidently increased wit aging time. So the simple methods could be applied to diagnosis of the transformer aging

  • This study presents an approach to predict insulation resistance failure of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) using non-linear modeling. A capacitance aging model created by non-linear modeling allowed for the prediction of insulation resistance failure. The MLCC data tested under temperature-humidity-bias testing conditions showed that a change in capacitance, when measured against a capacitance aging model, was able to provide a prediction of insulation resistance failure.

  • Aging effect on the cardiovascular circulation is simulated by lumped parameter model. Aging phenomena can be hemodynamically explained as (1) the increase of flow resistance induced by remodeling of artery vessels and increased viscosity of blood and (2) the reduction of the vessel capacitance caused by arteriosclerosis. Appropriate physiological parameters are evaluated from the clinical data of adults and old men. Simulation results well explain the hypertension with aging of cardiovascular system.

  • Due to the large capacity and low cost, DC link electrolytic capacitors with of energy storage and voltage regulation are used for almost all types of power converter as the DC/AC inverter or DC/DC converter. Electrolytic capacitor, which is the most of the time affected by the aging effect, plays very important role for the power converter system quality and reliability. Therefore, this paper proposes a simple method to estimate the capacitance variation of an electrolytic capacitor in order to analyze the internal characteristic decrease and worn-out state of an electrolytic capacitor. Simulation results by using capacitor storage energy computation show the validity of the proposed capacitance estimation method.

  • Structural and optical characteristics in $SnO_2$/a-Se/Al sample by aging variation and applying constant voltage had been investigated. a-Se was varied with monoclinic structure and its surface was greatly exchanged. Its capacitance was first decreased and then increased and its photo-current, photo-voltage and photo-capacitance were increased gradually with day and applying voltage. From the results, crystallization of a-Se and dopant trap level formation had been identified. Also, it was acknowledged $SnO_2$/a-Se/Al sample is useful in photovoltaic and solid thin film cell.

  • Temperature rise characteristics of medium voltage class transformers and dielectric characteristics of its insulation oil according to the loading rate were investigated using the transformer that has thermocouples embedded in the windings. The hottest-spot of the transformer locates at about 2/3 height of the windings where they adjoin each other among the 3 phase windings. The temperature difference between the hottest-spot and top-oil is about $17[^{\circ}C]$ and the value keeps uniformly in short time after changing the loading rate. Capacitance of the oil varies in inverse proportion to temperature and the inclination rate is about -0.0106 that is not dependent on the aging rate. On the other hand the capacitance is increased depending on the aging rate, so the capacitance characteristics of the oil could be applied to the diagnostic technique.

  • Aging and failure of motor insulation depend on the stresses imposed on it. The insulation life time depends on the severity of the stresses. The electrical aging by transient surge is very important to traction motor in EMU(electric multiple unit). This paper Presents the insulation characteristics of stator coil by transient surge from inverter. There are several nondestructive tests available for checking the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging,. and the rate of which aging is taking pace. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of leakage current, dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$), capacitance, polarization index(PI) and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the aging condition and Predict the life of the traction motor in EMU.

At same point, a voltage surge or mechanical shock from a traction motor start will fracture or break down the insulation. To achieve the expected life usually requires extensive laboratory evaluation of the insulation systems and the use of accelerated aging tests.
