  • The purpose of this thesis is to detect multiple vehicles using sequence image analysis at process that detect forward vehicles and lane from sequential color images. Detection of vehicles candidate area uses shadow characteristic and edge information in one frame. And, method to detect multiple vehicles area analyzes Estimation of Vehicle(EOV) and Accumulated Similarity Function(ASF) of vehicles candidate areas that exist in sequential images and examine possibility to be vehicles. Most researches detected a forward vehicles in road images but this research presented method to detect several vehicles and apply enough in havy traffic. To verify the effects of the proposed method, we capture the road images with notebook and CCD camera for PC and present the results such as processing time, accuracy and vehicles detection in the images.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method for face region extraction by skin-color hue, saturation and facial feature extraction in natural images. The proposed algorithm is composed of lighting correction and face detection process. In the lighting correction step, performing correction function for a lighting change. The face detection process extracts the area of skin color by calculating Euclidian distances to the input images using as characteristic vectors color and chroma in 20 skin color sample images. Eye detection using C element in the CMY color model and mouth detection using Q element in the YIQ color model for extracted candidate areas. Face area detected based on human face knowledge for extracted candidate areas. When an experiment was conducted with 10 natural images of face as input images, the method showed a face detection rate of 100%.

  • In this paper we propose a face detection system which consists of a method of face candidate extraction using skin color and a method of face verification using the feature of facial structure. Firstly, the proposed extraction method of face candidate uses the image segmentation and merging algorithm in the regions of skin color and the neighboring regions of skin color. These two algorithms make it possible to select the face candidates from the variety of faces in the image with complicated backgrounds. Secondly, by using the partial face classifier, the proposed face validation method verifies the feature of face structure and then classifies face and non-face. This classifier uses face images only in the learning process and does not consider non-face images in order to use less number of training images. In the experimental, the proposed method of face candidate extraction can find more 9.55% faces on average as face candidates than other methods. Also in the experiment of face and non-face classification, the proposed face validation method obtains the face classification rate on the average 4.97% higher than other face/non-face classifiers when the non-face classification rate is about 99%.

  • This paper proposes a road detection method using BP(Back-Propagation) neural network based on texture information of the each candidate road region segmented for satellite images. To segment the candidate road regions, the histogram-based binarization method proposed by N.Otsu is firstly performed and the neighboring regions surrounding road regions are then removed. And after extracting the principal color using the histogram of the segmented foreground, the candidate road regions are classified into the regions within ${\pm}25$ of the principal color. Finally, the road regions are segmented using BP neural network based on texture information of the candidate regions. The texture information in this paper is calculated using co-occurrence matrix and is used as an input data of the BP neural network. The proposed method is based on the fact that the road has the constant intensity and shape. The experiment demonstrated the validity of the proposed method and showed 90% detection accuracy for the various images.

  • In this paper, we propose an adult images detection algorithm using a mean intensity filter and an improved 2D Hough Transform. This paper is composed of three major steps including a training step, a recognition step, and a verification step. The training step generates a mean nipple variance filter that will be used for detecting nipple candidate regions in the recognition step. To make the mean variance filter, we converts an input color image into a gray scale image and normalize it, and make an average intensity filter for nipple areas. The recognition step first extracts edge images and finds connected components, and decides nipple candidate regions by considering the ratio of width and height of a connected component. It then decides final nipple candidates by calculating the similarity between the learned nipple average intensity filter and the nipple candidate areas. Also, it detects breast lines of an input image through the improved 2D Hough transform. The verification step detects breast areas and identifies adult images by considering the relations between nipple candidate regions and locations of breast lines.

  • Existing edge discovery techniques only found edges of defined shapes based on precise definitions of edges. Therefore, there are many limitations in finding edges for images of complex and diverse shapes that exist in the real world. A method for solving these problems and discovering various types of edges is a cost minimization method. In this method, the cost function and cost factor are defined and used. This cost function calculates the cost of the candidate edge model generated according to the candidate edge generation strategy. If a satisfactory result is obtained, the corresponding candidate edge model becomes the edge for the image. In this study, a new candidate edge generation strategy was proposed to discover edges for images of more diverse shapes in order to improve the disadvantage of only finding edges of a defined shape, which is a problem of the cost minimization method. In addition, the contents of improvement were confirmed through a simple simulation that reflected these points.

  • Most of the Automatic Fingerprint Identification Systems define the ridge endings and bifurcation points as the minutia for matching. Therefore, the precise extraction of the minutia is critical in raising the efficiency and reliability of the system. The fingerprint images produced through the preprocessing may have the false minutia happened over the process and they can be the factors to decrease the system efficiency This paper suggests the algorithm, which removes the false minutia after extracting the candidate minutia from the thinned binary images of fingerprint images.

  • A real-time face detection is to find human faces robustly under the cluttered background free from the effect of occlusion by other objects or various lightening conditions. We propose a face detection system for real-time applications using wavelet decomposition method based on Gabor features. Firstly, skin candidate regions are extracted from the given image by skin color filtering and projection method. Then Gabor-feature based template matching is performed to choose face cadidate from the skin candidate regions. The chosen face candidate region is transformed into 2-level wavelet decomposition images, from which feature vectors are extracted for classification. Based on the extracted feature vectors, the face candidate region is finally classified into either face or nonface class by the Levenberg-Marguardt back-propagation neural network.

  • This paper presents a real-time motion restoration system for people who need remedial exercise of musculoskeletal based on Inverse Kinematics. A new approach is suggested to recognize a gesture based on restored human motion which is calculated the 3D positions of intermediate joints using 3D positions of body features estimated from images. For generating the 3D candidate positions of intermediate joints which cannot be extracted from images, we apply an Inverse Kinematics theory to compute the target position of intermediate joints. And we can reduce the number of candidate positions by applying the various physical constraints of body. Finally, we can generate the more accurate final position using the Kalman filter for a motion tracking and the relationship between the previous frame information and the candidate positions. The system provide motion information which are rotation angle and height in real-time, therefore the rehabilitation exercises can be performed based on the information and figured out proper exercise for individual status.

  • In this paper, we propose an object contour tracking algorithm using snakes in stereo image sequences. The proposed technique is composed of two steps. In the first step, the candidate Snake points are determined from the motion information in 3-D disparity space. In the second step, the energy of Snake function is calculated to check whether the candidate Snake points converge to the edges of the interested objects. The energy of Snake function is calculated from the candidate Snake points using the disparity information obtained by patch matching. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated by applying it to various sample images. Results prove that the proposed technique can track the edges of objects of interest in the stereo image sequences even in the cases of complicated background images or additive components.
