  • Two Campylaspis species, C. amblyoda $Gam\hat{o}$, 1960 and C. reticulata $Gam\hat{o}$, 1960, are redescribed as new to Korean cumacean fauna. Campylaspis amblyoda is characterized by having a carapace with five or six pairs of pellucid spots on dorsal surface, a pair of projections near proximal portion of frontal lobe, and lacking sulcus on lateral portion. Campylaspis reticulata is easily distinguished from its congeners by having a pair of broad sulcus and several large reticulations on lateral portion of carapace. The collected Korean specimens were congruent with the original descriptions, except for several minor differences. Herein, we add two Campylaspis species to the Korean cumacean fauna. The female of C. reticulata is described for the first time. A key to the Korean Campylaspis species is also provided.

  • This study dealt with cumacean specimens collected from the shallow waters of the South Sea and East Sea, Korea. Campylaspis fusiformis Gam$\hat{o}$, 1960 belonging to the family Nannastacidae is newly recorded to Korean fauna. This species resembles C. pumila and C. striata in having a similar body form and a pair of narrow lateral sulcuses on the carapace, but it is easily distinguished from them by the dactylus of the pereopod 2 which is more than 3.5 times the length of the propodus and bears many setae (about 20) on the surface. This species mainly occurs in the Korean and Japanese waters.

  • The spatial distribution and composition of the mesozooplankton community in the southeastern Barents Sea were observed at 17 stations, from 12 to 28 July 2002. Six taxa of zooplankton were found, including tintinnids, copepods, cumaceans, appendicularians, polychaetes, and barnacle larvae. Copepods were dominant, comprising 74% of the community. The copepod species Limnocalanus grimaldii, Pseudocalanus acuspes, Calanus glacialis, Calanus finmarchicus, and Microsetella norvegica, and the cumacean species Diastylis rathkei and Campylaspis rubicunda were identified. The overall mean abundance of the zooplankton was 72 indiv.l0 $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$ in the study area, ranging from 4 to 197 indiv.l0$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$. Zooplankton was more abundant at the oceanic than the coastal stations. The highest biomass measured was 97.4mg $\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, the mean biomass was 36.9 mg 10$\mu \textrm m^{-3}$, 93% of which was copepods. Pseudocalanus acuspes, C. glacialis, and C. finmarchicus predominated, accounting for 61% of abundance and 86% of biomass. Spatial distributions of the zooplankton community in the study area depended on the variations in water temperature and salinity, which were influenced by freshwater runoff from the continent.

  • Korean nannastacids have recorded only eight species belonging to genera Campylaspis and Cumella. In this paper, Nannastacus nyctagineus Gamȏ, 1962, is redescribed and illustrated as a new species of Korean fauna in this study for the first time. Korean female specimens of Nannastacus nyctagineus correspond well with the original description by Gamȏ, 1962 based on only female specimens. Gamȏ has described that new species, Nannastacus pruinosus could be distinguished from N. nyctagineus based on only male specimens. The Korean male specimens of N. nyctagineus undoubtedly match well with the description of N. pruinosus with the following common features: the surface of the carapace is covered with numerous granules; pereonites and pleonites have similar patterns of the teeth on dorsal surface; the proportion and armature of the dactylus of pereopod 2 is similar; the number and pattern arrangement of the setae on the surface in antenna 1, pereopod 1, and uropod are the all most same. Nannastacus pruinosus Gamȏ, 1962 is proposed as a synonym of N. nyctagineus described in this study. This represents the first record on the genus Nannastacus from Korea.
