Emotion Classification Method Using Various Ocular Features (다양한 눈의 특징 분석을 통한 감성 분류 방법)

  • In this paper, emotion classification was performed by using four ocular features extracted from near-infrared camera image. According to comparing with previous work, the proposed method used more ocular features and each feature was validated as significant one in terms of emotion classification. To minimize side effects on ocular features caused by using visual stimuli, auditory stimuli for causing two opposite emotion pairs such as "positive-negative" and "arousal-relaxation" were used. As four features for emotion classification, pupil size, pupil accommodation rate, blink frequency, and eye cloased duration were adopted which could be automatically extracted by using lab-made image processing software. At result, pupil accommodation rate and blink frequency were statistically significant features for classification arousal-relaxation. Also, eye closed duration was the most significant feature for classification positive-negative.

Three Dimensional Vortex Behavior of LEX Delta Wing by Dynamic Stereo PIV (Dynamic Stereo PIV에 의한 델타형 날개에서의 3차원 와류 유동에 관한 연구)

  • Leading edge extension(LEX) in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present 3-D stereo PIV includes the Identification of 2-D cross-correlation equation, stereo matching of 2-D velocity vectors of two cameras, accurate calculation of 3-D velocity vectors by homogeneous coordinate system, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterion and so on. A delta wing model with or without LEX was immersed in a circulating water channel. Two high-resolution, high-speed digital cameras$(1280pixel\times1024pixel)$ were used to allow the time-resolved animation work. The present dynamic stereo PIV represents the complicated vortex behavior, especially, in terms of time-dependent characteristics of the vortices at given measuring sections. Quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing to make the easy understanding of the LEX effect or vortex emerging and collapse which are important phenomena occurring in the field of delta wing aerodynamics.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to solve a problem in binarizing the rear number plate image captured by a camera on a moving vehicle. An image may be shadowed by the cavernous structure of the rear side of a moving vehicle and it makes us hard to get a high quality of binary image. Therefore, we first detect a shadow edge and then divide an image into the shadow part and non-shadow part by the edge. Finally, the binary image is obtained by binarizing each part and merging them In this paper, we do comparative work on a group of binarization methods including our method, the method suggested by Zheng, the method using block binarization, and the method using labeling. The result shows that our method achieves better performance than others in most cases.

The system is applied to the RFID cards by using the present management system to manage the personal attendance and reduce the hassle by installing a camera in a robot to prevent a proxy attendance, it added effect. In addition to the robot to determine the user's business to manage attendance, in addition to the menu over lunch with the correct time off work and out of business, and so the record companies and the lab is also possible to take full advantage of the system is introduced.

  • The influence of digital media according to environmental change of multi-media came to have significance more than what we imagine. In accordance with high resolution of HDTV in digital media era, the cautious awareness is required for skin color by the immediate color such as replica of TV color, lighting and clothing. As for the broadcasting makeup expression technique caused by a change in broadcasting environment in the digital media era, the first, There is necessity for natural makeup technique, and for expressing the whole makeup evenly and very delicately. The makeup work gets much more delicate. For the delicate expression, more time is being required than the existing makeup time. Second, Lots of time and manpower are required for elaborate real-object processing on all the production fields such as background set, stage properties, and makeup. Third, Realistic expression is available on the screen. Importance of basic makeup is highlighted. Thus, even the skin care shop came to be prevalent. Development in only HD cosmetics is needed for foundation with fine particle in new material and with diverse colors hereafter. The video-media field is a method that is ignored a sense of distance through vehicles such as camera, picture tube, and several kinds of broadcasting machinery and equipment and that is delivered vividly to viewers through screen, unlike the stage makeup, thereby being needed the makeup technology proper for HDTV according to the changing broadcasting environment and media. The video machinery and equipment are proceeding with being gradually high-tech and precise. Thus, an expert in makeup needs to know common sense on the video machinery and equipment before makeup, and needs to make an effort according to it. And, a follow-up research can be said to be necessary on the advance in makeup method and on more diverse dedicated cosmetics along with a research on color tone proper for HDTV.

3-D vision sensor for arc welding industrial robot system with coordinated motion

  • In order to obtain desired arc welding performance, we already developed an arc welding robot system that enabled coordinated motions of dual arm robots. In this system one robot arm holds a welding target as a positioning device, and the other robot moves the welding torch. Concerning to such a dual arm robot system, the positioning accuracy of robots is one important problem, since nowadays conventional industrial robots unfortunately don't have enough absolute accuracy in position. In order to cope with this problem, our robot system employed teaching playback method, where absolute error are compensated by the operator's visual feedback. Due to this system, an ideal arc welding considering the posture of the welding target and the directions of the gravity has become possible. Another problem still remains, while we developed an original teaching method of the dual arm robots with coordinated motions. The problem is that manual teaching tasks are still tedious since they need fine movements with intensive attentions. Therefore, we developed a 3-dimensional vision guided robot control method for our welding robot system with coordinated motions. In this paper we show our 3-dimensional vision sensor to guide our arc welding robot system with coordinated motions. A sensing device is compactly designed and is mounted on the tip of the arc welding robot. The sensor detects the 3-dimensional shape of groove on the target work which needs to be weld. And the welding robot is controlled to trace the grooves with accuracy. The principle of the 3-dimensional measurement is depend on the slit-ray projection method. In order to realize a slit-ray projection method, two laser slit-ray projectors and one CCD TV camera are compactly mounted. Tactful image processing enabled 3-dimensional data processing without suffering from disturbance lights. The 3-dimensional information of the target groove is combined with the rough teaching data they are given by the operator in advance. Therefore, the teaching tasks are simplified

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an increase in self - determination experience on the behavior of young children with autism spectrum disorder by telepresence robot. As for research method, the study used AB design, two selected children engaged in activities with a telepresence robot in free play time in the morning. The activities were conducted in 19 sessions, twice a week, 15 to 40 minutes each. To investigate the effect of the activity on the child's behavior was observed using the behaviors of free play time and work time in the afternoon. All the process was recorded by a camera and then analyzed by frequency recording. The results of the study are as follows. First, the participation of young children with autism spectrum disorder in free play time increased. Second, choice-making or preference behavior of young children with autistic spectrum disorder were increased. This study suggests that increasing the self-determination experience of young children with autism spectrum disorders using telepresence robots increases their participation and increases their choice-making or preference behavior.

Safety Evaluation of the Lighting at the Entrance of a Very Long Road Tunnel: A Case Study in Ilam

  • Background: At the entrance of a tunnel, reflection of sunlight from the surrounding environment and a lack of adequate lighting usually cause some vision problems. The purpose of this study was to perform a safety evaluation of lighting on a very long road in Ilam, Iran. Methods: The average luminance was measured using a luminance meter (model S3; Hagner, Solna, Sweden). A camera (model 108, 35-mm single-lens reflex; Yashica, Nagano, Japan) was used to take photographs of the safe stopping distance from the tunnel entrance. Equivalent luminance was determined according to the Holliday polar diagram. Results: Considering the average luminance at the tunnel entrance ($116.7cd/m^2$) and using Adrian's equation, the safe level of lighting at the entrance of the tunnel was determined to be 0.7. Conclusion: A comparison between the results of the safe levels of lighting at the entrance of the tunnel and the De Boer scale showed that the phenomenon of black holes is created at the tunnel entrance. This may lead to a misadaptation of the drivers' eyes to the change in luminance level at the entrance of the tunnel, thereby increasing the risk of road accidents in this zone.

An Automatic Corona-discharge Detection System for Railways Based on Solar-blind Ultraviolet Detection

  • Corona discharge is always a sign of failure processes of high-voltage electrical apparatus, including those utilized in electric railway systems. Solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) cameras are effective tools for corona inspection. In this work, we present an automatic railway corona-discharge detection system based on solar-blind ultraviolet detection. The UV camera, mounted on top of a train, inspects the electrical apparatus, including transmission lines and insulators, along the railway during fast cruising of the train. An algorithm based on the Hough transform is proposed for distinguishing the emitting objects (corona discharge) from the noise. The detection system can report the suspected corona discharge in real time during fast cruises. An experiment was carried out during a routine inspection of railway apparatus in Xinjiang Province, China. Several corona-discharge points were found along the railway. The false-alarm rate was controlled to less than one time per hour during this inspection.

  • Pavement distresses are one of the most important data for pavement management systems. Inspection machines and its related programs have been used for operating tools in PMS developed in advanced countries. In Korea imported machines and programs for the length price ale utilized to get information of pavement condition from the field This study is launched for developing the program which can detect cracks on asphalt pavement due to many drawbacks in current PMS operation such as improper maintenance work and long resting period when it was broken. The focus of this study is to define principles to analyze pavement surface with digital image processing techniques, to test property of pavement images and to suggest an algorithm that reduces noises at test. To test images, the camera attached on the Automatic Road Analyser(ARAN) was used. Through the FFT images, histogram and statistical values of pavement images, it was found that the images had many noises with high-frequency components against general images, and it was difficult to subdivide pavement images into background or crack. Through several testing with various filters for noise reduction a 3X3 median filter was suggested to reduce noises effectively.
