The various studies and applications for UAVS(Unmaned Aerial Vehicle System) have been recently increased as a new technology to create 3D spatial information rapidly and accurately. UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is economical when comparing with conventional technique, such as satellite and aerial survey, and can quickly obtain high resolution data under 5cm. This paper examined the utilizing possibility to creating 3D spatial information and analysis the compatibility the UAV data obtained by non-metric digital camera with conventional numerical photogrammetric system. The DEM and normal orthophoto is created by exclusive S/W and DPW(Digital Photogrammetry Workstation) then analysis the accuracy of created data. As a result, the accuracy of the created DEM and normal orthophoto, which is obtained by UAV then processed by DPW, is not satisfied;so it is estimated that the compatibility the UAV data with conventional numerical photogrammetric system is low.

To evaluate the accuracy of UAV photogrammetry for Hyangho coast, eastern coast of Korea, we conducted a field experiment wherein UAV photogrammetry test was repeated three times. Since the Haygho coast is located within a military reservation zone, it was necessary to obtain permission to gain access to the beach and to have sensitive aerial photographs showing military facilities inspected and cropped. The standard deviation of the UAV shooting position between the three tests was less than 1 m, but repeatability of footprint on the ground was low due to wind-driven variability of the UAV pose. Self-calibrating bundle adjustment(SCBA) of implementing non-metric camera calibration was failed in one test. In two tests, the vertical error was twice as large as the pixel size except for those areas that were subject to security inspection and cropping. Given the problems that can arise with regard to the repeatability of the shooting area as well as the possibility of failure with regard to SCBA, we strongly recommend that UAV photogrammetry in coastal areas needs to be repeated at least twice.
In this paper, we conducted high velocity impact test for Carbon/Epoxy composite laminates and proposed advanced method for predicting the absorbed energy of composite laminates. During high-velocity impact test, we discovered loss of projectile mass macroscopically using high speed camera, thus we calculated the absorbed energy of composite laminates by taking loss of projectile mass into account. We proposed a model for predicting the absorbed energy of composite laminates subjected to high-velocity impact, the absorbed energy was classified into static energy and dynamic energy. The static energy was calculated by the quasi-static perforation equation that is related to the fiber breakage and static elastic energy. The dynamic energy can be divided by the kinetic energy of deformed specimen and fragment mass. Finally, the predicted absorbed energy considering loss of projectile mass was compared with experimental results.
In this study, a digital elevation model (DEM) in tidal flat of Suncheon Bay, one of the most ecological preserved area in the world, was generated from digital aerial stereo-images. The focal lengths for the aerial stereo-images were adjusted using ground control points (GCPs) in order to improve the accuracy of camera parameters. We proposed matching sizes suitable for generating DEM in tidal flat and a method for eliminating excessive position errors using intersection-distance($P_R$) threshold value. The accuracies of the DEM generated from the proposed method as well as the commercial S/W were compared with the elevation profiles measured by Total Station in the filed. As the results, the DEM generated by the proposed method showed better result (maximum deviation is a -21 centimeters) with detailed topography than DEM by the commercial S/W in the region. These results suggest that the DEM of tidal flat, which hardly obtained with the traditional methods, can be generated from digital aerial images by applying the proposed method in this study. We believe that the generated DEM in tidal flat can be an essential data for monitoring the sediment erosion and deposit of the tidal flat.

Extraction and tracking objects are fundamental and important steps of the digital image processing and computer vision. Many algorithms about extracting and tracking objects have been developed. In this research, a method is suggested for tracking a moving object using a pair of CCD cameras and calculating the coordinate of the moving object. A 1/100 miniature of soccer field was made to apply the developed algorithms. After candidates were selected from the acquired images using the RGB value of a moving object (soccer ball), the object was extracted using its size (MBR size) among the candidates. And then, image coordinates of a moving object are obtained. The real-time position of a moving object is tracked in the boundary of the expected motion, which is determined by centering the moving object. The 3D position of a moving object can be obtained by conducting the relative orientation, absolute orientation, and space intersection of a pair of the CCD camera image.

A Compton X-ray backscatter technique has been developed to quantitatively assess impact damage in quasi-isotropic laminated composites made by a drop-weight tester. X-ray backscatter imaging system with a slit-type camera is constructed to obtain a cross-sectional profile of impact-damaged laminated composites from the electron-density variation of the cross section. A nonlinear scattering model based on Boltsman equation is introduced to compute Compton X-ray backscattering field for the defect assessment. An adaptive filter is also used to reduce noises from many sources including quantum noise and irregular distributions of fibers and matrix in composites. Delaminations masked or distorted by the first delamination are detected and characterized effectively by the Compton X-ray backscatter technique, both in width and location, by application of error minimization algorithm.

Recently, BIM (Building Information Modeling) are widely being utilized in Construction industry. However, most structures that have been constructed in the past do not have BIM. For structures without BIM, the use of SfM (Structure from Motion) techniques in the 2D image obtained from the camera allows the generation of 3D model point cloud data and BIM to be established. However, since these generated point cloud data do not contain semantic information, it is necessary to manually classify what elements of the structure. Therefore, in this study, deep learning was applied to automate the process of classifying structural components. In the establishment of deep learning network, Inception-ResNet-v2 of CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) structure was used, and the components of bridge structure were learned through transfer learning. As a result of classifying components using the data collected to verify the developed system, the components of the bridge were classified with an accuracy of 96.13 %.

This paper presents experimental evaluation of an insect-mimicking flapping-wing device actuated by a unimorph piezoceramic actuator. Length of each rod and hinge point in the linkage/amplification system are carefully chosen such that the resulting wing motion can mimic clapping of wings in a real insect at the end of upstroke. In addition to this, a pair of corrugated wings are fabricated mimicking zig-zag cross section of a real insect wing. Thanks to the two additional implementation, the improved flapping wing device can generate a larger lift force than the previous model even though area of the new wing is about 50% less than that of the previous wing. In this work, effects of the wing clapping, the wing corrugation, and the input wave form on the lift force generation have been also experimentally investigated. Finally, the vortex generated by the flapping device has been captured by a high speed camera, showing that vortices are produced during up- and down-strokes.

The present paper proposes a novel dynamic system for hand gesture recognition. The approach involved is comprised of three main steps: detection, tracking and recognition. First, the gesture contour captured by a 2D-camera is detected by combining the three-frame difference method and skin-color elliptic boundary model. Then, the trajectory of the hand gesture is extracted via a gesture-tracking algorithm based on an occlusion-direction oriented linear extrapolation predictor, where the gesture coordinate in next frame is predicted by the judgment of current occlusion direction. Finally, to overcome the interference of insignificant trajectory segments, the longest common subsequence (LCS) is employed with the aid of velocity information. Besides, to tackle the subgesture problem, i.e., some gestures may also be a part of others, the most probable gesture category is identified through comparison of the relative LCS length of each gesture, i.e., the proportion between the LCS length and the total length of each template, rather than the length of LCS for each gesture. The gesture dataset for system performance test contains digits ranged from 0 to 9, and experimental results demonstrate the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
Photogrammetric mapping procedures have gone through major developments due to significant improvements in its underlying technologies. The availability of GPS/INS systems greatly assist in direct geo-referencing of the acquired imagery. Still, photogrammetric datasets taken without the aid of positioning and navigation systems need control information for the purpose of surface reconstruction. Point features were, and still are, the primary source of control for the photogrammetric triangulation although other higher-order features are available and can be used. LIDAR systems supply dense geometric surface information in the form of three dimensional coordinates with respect to certain reference system. Considering the accuracy improvement of LIDAR systems in the recent years, LIDAR data is considered a viable supply of photogrammetric control. To exploit LIDAR data, new challenges are poised concerning the representation and reference system by which both the photogrammetric and LIDAR datasets are described. In this paper, registration methodologies will be devised for the purpose of integrating the LIDAR data into the photogrammetric triangulation. Such registration methodologies have to deal with three issues: registration primitives, transformation parameters, and similarity measures. Two methodologies will be introduced that utilize straight-line and areal features derived from both datasets as the registration primitives. The first methodology directly incorporates the LIDAR lines as control information in the photogrammetric triangulation, while in the second methodology, LIDAR patches are used to produce and align the photogrammetric model. Also, camera self-calibration experiments were conducted on simulated and real data to test the feasibility of using LIDAR patches for this purpose.
