This paper describes the development and the field application of the ultrasonic gas flowmeter for accurate measurement of the volumetric flow rate of gases in a harsh environmental conditions in iron & steel making company. This ultrasonic flowmeter is especially suited for measuring LDG, COG, BFG gases produced in iron & steel making process. This is a transit time type ultrasonic flowmeter. We have developed the transmitting & receiving algorithm of ultrasonic wave and the ultrasonic signal processing algorithm to develope a transit time type ultrasonic flowmeter. We have evaluated the performance of ultrasonic flowmeter by the calibration system with Venturi type standard flowmeter. We has confirmed its reliability by extensive field tests for a year in POSCO, iron & steel making company. Now we have developed the commercial model of ultrasonic flowmeter and applied to the POSCO gas line.
This study evaluated thermal image real-time estimation and fire alarm using by a CCD camera, which has been a seamless feature-point analysis method, according to the angle and position and image fusion by a vector coordinate point set-up of equal shape. The system has higher accuracy, fixing data value of temperature sensing and fire image of 0~255, and sensor output-value of 0~5,000. The operation time of a flame specimen within 500 m, 1000 m, and 1500 m from the test report specimen took 7 s, 26 s, and 62 s, respectively, and image creation was proven. A diagnosis of fire accident was designated to 3 steps: Caution/Alarm/Fire. Therefore, a series of process and the transmission of SNS were identified. A light bulb and fluorescent bulb were also tested for a false alarm test, but no false alarm occurred. The possibility that an unwanted alarm will be reduced was verified through a forecast of the fire progress or real-time estimation of a thermal image by the change in the image of a time-based flame and an analysis of the diffusion velocity.
Multi-channel images of 11-MUA(11-Mercaptoundecanoic acid) and 11-MUOH(11-Mercaptoundecanol) self-assembled monolayers were obtained by using two-dimensional surface plasmon resonance (SPR) absorption. The patterning process was simplified by exploiting direct photo-oxidation of thiol bonding (photolysis) instead of conventional photolithography. Sharper images were resolved by using a white light source in combination with a narrow bandpass filter in the visible region, minimizing the diffraction patterns on the images. The line profile calibration of the image contrast caused by different resonance conditions at each point on the sensor surface (at a fixed incident angle) enables us to discriminate the monolayer thickness in nanometer scale. Furthermore, there is no signal degradation such as photo bleaching or quenching, which are common in the detection methods based on fluorescence.

In this paper, by using a commercial EM simulator, we could obtain the array manifold which are phase responses of an array antenna for the incident plane wave and then verified the effectiveness of methodology after comparing with the measurement. The result shows that the array manifold can be calculated including not only the phase response of the ideal point sources but also the influences of the mutual coupling between antennas and the installed platform. Also it can exclude the interference of strong broadcasting signal and the disturbance of the multipath in the calibration process. Finally, to predict the performances of direction finding systems, a novel method using both the EM simulation-based receiving signal and the sparsely sampled array manifold with the parabolic estimation is proposed. This method can be utilized in the various fields of direction-finding since it shows the superior predictive performance even in low SNR conditions.

This paper dealt with the deterioration characteristics and an on-line diagnosis equipment for SPDs (surge protective devices). An accelerated aging test was carried out using a $8/20{\mu}s$ standard lightning impulse current to analyze the changes of electrical characteristics and to propose the diagnostic parameters and the criterion for deterioration of ZnO varistor which is the core component of SPDs. Based on the experimental results, an on-line diagnosis equipment for SPD was fabricated, which can measure the total leakage current, reference and clamping voltage. The leakage current measurement circuit was designed using a low-noise amplifier and a clamp type ZCT. A linear controller, the leakage current measurement part and a HVDC were used in the measurement of reference voltage. The measurement circuit of clamping voltage consisted of a surge generator and a coupling circuit. In a calibration process, measurement error of the prototype equipment was less than 3%.
The purpose of this study was to develop age-biomass model in Chungnam region containing random effect. To develop the biomass model by species and tree component, data for Pinus densiflora in central region is collected to 30 plots (150 trees). The mixed model were used to fixed effect in the age-biomass relation for Pinus densiflora, with random effect representing correlation of survey area were obtained. To verify the evaluation of the model for random effect, the akaike information criterion (abbreviated as, AIC) was used to calculate the variance-covariance matrix, and residual of repeated data. The estimated variance-covariance matrix, and residual were -1.0022, 0.6240, respectively. The model with random effect (AIC=377.2) has low AIC value, comparison with other study relating to random effects. It is for this reason that random effect associated with categorical data were used in the data fitting process, the model can be calibrated to fit the Chungnam region by obtaining measurements. Therefore, the results of this study could be useful method for developing biomass model using random effects by region.
It is essential to obtain periodic sediment discharge data in a river in order to minimize problems that may arise from the erosion, transport, and deposition of sediment. However, it is difficult to estimate sediment discharge by the sediment discharge measurement plan in Korea at present, and empirical fomulas or numerical models are used to replace them. This paper has applied the K-DRUM model, a grid-based rainfall-runoff-sediment model, to estimate sediment discharge and ensure the continuity of the data in the watershed. Discharge and sediment load in 17 watersheds were estimated and the applicability of the model was analyzed through comparisons with measured data. For quantitative evaluation, NSE, PBIAS and RSR items were used, and discharge results reflected the tendency of rainfall and showed high statistical value. In case of sediment discharge, the soil erosion process of the watershed is physically well reflected. When the calibration was performed using the measure data, the applicability seems to be excellent in estimating the continuous sediment discharge data in the real watershed.

The eastward extension of the suture zone between the Sino-Korea and Yangtze cratons in the Korean Peninsula and Japanese islands remains debatable (Hiroi, 1981; Cluzel et al., 1991; Yin and Nie, 1993; Sohma and Kunugiza, 1993; Isozaki, 1997; Arakawa et at., 2000), and is related to our understanding of the continent-continent collision orogeny. The collision orogeny varies in tectono-metamorphic processes and the timing differs from place to place, as exemplified by the absence of coesite and micro-diamond in the Korean Peninsula and Japanese islands, because it is a long-lived process of more than several tens of million years from subduction to exhumation in the Wilson cycle, and because the suture zone extends more than several thousand kilometers with a curved shape from the Qinling area of China to the Hida highland area of Japan. Hiroi (1981) is the first paper to correlate the Unazuki metamorphic rocks of the Hida metamorphic belt in Japan with the Ogcheon belt in the Korean Peninsula based on the presence of 240 Ma medium P/T metamorphic rocks in both belts, but there is a lack of recent studies on this correlation. To resolve the correlationship, there are two approaches: 1) petrological studies characterizing the origin and P-T history of rocks and 2) in-situ micro-dating of fine-grained, zoned minerals of zircon, monazite, uraninite and thorite using the EPMA (U-Th-Pb chemical dating or CHIME depending on calibration method) and the SHRIMP (Sensitive High-resolution ion Microprobe) to decipher the timing of geological events. As a first step of these approaches, micro-dating was undertaken to rocks of the Hida metamorphic belt and its Mesozoic cover (Tetori Group) in the Hida highland area, central Japan.
In this study, a biosensor was developed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to rapidly measure the fungicide iprovalicarb residues in agricultural products. The biosensor was designed to include micro-pumps and solenoid valves for fluid transport, a spectrophotometer cuvet as a reaction chamber, a photodiode with a light-emitting diode for optical density measurement, and a control microcomputer to implement assay. The rate of change in optical density of the cuvet was read as final signal output. Micro-pumps were evaluated to investigate their delivery capability, the highest values of the error and the coefficient of variation were 4.3% and 4.6% respectively. As the incubation period was reduced from 15 minutes to 11 minutes to shorten the total processing time, the sensor sensitivity was decreased as the antibody dilution ratio was reduced to a half. The maximum usable period of the coated cuvet was found to be two days with 1% error limit. To predict the concentration of the iprovalicarb residue in agricultural products, a linear calibration model was obtained with r-square values of 0.992 for potato and 0.985 for onion. In validation test for the samples of potatoes and onions against the high performance liquid chromatography, very high correlation values were obtained as 0.996 and 0.993 respectively. Using the cuvet immobilized with antigen, it took 21-minutes for the biosensor to complete the measuring process of the iprovalicarb residues.
Window interface to Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (WinHSPF) developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was applied to the upstream of Nam-Han river watershed to examine its applicability for loading estimates in watershed scale and to evaluate non-point source control scenarios using BMPRAC in WinHSPF. The WinHSPF model was calibrated and verified for water flow using Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT, 3 stations, 2003~2005) and water qualities using Ministry of Environment (MOE, 5 station, 2000~2006). Water flow and water quality simulation results were also satisfactory over the total simulation period. But outliers were occurred in the time series data of TN and TP at some regions and periods. Therefore, it required more profit calibration process for more various parameters. As a result, all the study was performed within the expectation considering the complexity of the watershed, pollutant sources and land uses intermixed in the watershed. The estimated pollutant load for annual average about $BOD_5$, T-N and T-P respectively. Nonpoint source loading had a great portion of total pollutant loading, about 86.5~95.2%. In WinHSPF, BMPRAC was applied to evaluate non-point source control scenarios (constructed wetland, wet detention ponds and infiltration basins). All the scenarios showed efficiency of non-point source removal. Overall, the HSPF model is adequate for simulating watersheds characteristics, and its application is recommended for watershed management and evaluation of best management practices.
