Purpose: Fusel oil is a potent volatile aroma compound found in many alcoholic beverages. At low concentrations, it makes an essential contribution to the flavor and aroma of fermented alcoholic beverages, while at high concentrations, it induced an off-flavor and is thought to cause undesirable side effects. In this work, we introduce Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy as a rapid and nondestructive technique for the quantitative determination of fusel oil in the Korean alcoholic beverage "soju". Methods: FT-NIR transmittance spectra in the 1000-2500 nm region were collected for 120 soju samples with fusel oil concentrations ranging from 0 to 1400 ppm. The calibration and validation data sets were designed using data from 75 and 45 samples, respectively. The net analyte signal (NAS) was used as a preprocessing method before the application of the partial least-square regression (PLSR) and principal component regression (PCR) methods for predicting fusel oil concentration. A novel variable selection method was adopted to determine the most informative spectral variables to minimize the effect of nonmodeled interferences. Finally, the efficiency of the developed technique was evaluated with two different validation sets. Results: The results revealed that the NAS-PLSR model with selected variables ($R^2_{\upsilon}=0.95$, RMSEV = 100ppm) did not outperform the NAS-PCR model (($R^2_{\upsilon}=0.97$, RMSEV = 7 8.9ppm). In addition, the NAS-PCR shows a better recovery for validation set 2 and a lower relative error for validation set 3 than the NAS-PLSR model. Conclusion: The experimental results indicate that the proposed technique could be an alternative to conventional methods for the quantitative determination of fusel oil in alcoholic beverages and has the potential for use in in-line process control.
Using Fuji apple fruits cultivated in Kyungpook prefecture, the calibration model for firmness evaluation of fruits by near infrared(NIR) reflectance spectroscopy was developed, and the various influence factors such as instrument variety, measuring method, sample group, apple peel and selection of firmness point were investigated. Spectra of sample were recorded in wavelength range of 1100∼2500nm using NIR spectrometer (InfraAlyzer 500), and data were analyzed by stepwise multiple linear regression of IDAS program. The accuracy of calibration model was the highest when using sample group with wide range, and the firmness mean values obtained in graph by texture analyser(TA) were used as standard data. Chemometrics models were developed using a calibration set of 324 samples and an independent validation set of 216 samples to evaluate the predictive ability of the models. The correlation coefficients and standard error of prediction were 0.84 and 0.094kg, respectively. Using developed calibration model, it was possible to monitor the firmness change of fruits during storage frequently. Time, which was reached to firmness high value in graph by TA, is possible to use as new parameter for freshness of fruit surface during storage.
In this study, we performed cross calibration of KOMPSAT-3 AEISS imaging sensor with reference to normalized pixels in the Landsat 8 OLI scenes of homogenous ROI recorded by both sensors between January 2014 and December 2019 at the Libya 4 PICS. Cross calibration is using images from a stable and well-calibrated satellite sensor as references to harmonize measurements from other sensors and/or characterize other sensors. But cross calibration has two problems; RSR and temporal difference. The RSR of KOMPSAT-3 and Landsat 8 are similar at the blue and green bands. But the red and NIR bands have a large difference. So we calculate SBAF of each sensor. We compared the SBAF estimated from the TOA Radiance simulation with KOMPSAT-3 and Landsat 8, the results displayed a difference of about 2.07~2.92% and 0.96~1.21% in the VIS and NIR bands. Before SBAF, Reflectance and Radiance difference was 0.42~23.23%. Case of difference temporal, we simulated by 6S and Landsat 8 for alignment the same acquisition time. The SBAF-corrected cross calibration coefficients using KOMPSAT-3, 6S and simulated Landsat 8 compared to the initial cross calibration without correction demonstrated a percentage difference in the spectral bands of about 0.866~1.192%. KOMPSAT-3 maximum uncertainty was estimated at 3.26~3.89%; errors due to atmospheric condition minimized to less than 1% (via 6S); Maximum deviation of KOMPSAT-3 DN was less than 1%. As the result, the results affirm that SBAF and 6s simulation enhanced cross-calibration accuracy.

The radiometric correction is prerequisite to derive both land and ocean surface properties from optical remote sensing data. Radiometric calibration of remotely sensed data has traditionally been accomplished by means of vicarious ground calibration techniques. The purpose of this study is to calibrate the radiometric characteristic of Airborne Multispectral Scanner (AMS) by field campaign. In order to calibrate the AMS data, four different spectral tarps which are 3.5%, 23%, 35%, and 53% were validated by GER-3700 that is the surface reflectance measurement equipment and were utilized. After validation of the spectral tarps, each reflectance from the spectral tarps was compared with Digital Number (DN) value of AMS. There was very high correlation between tarp reflectance and DN value of AMS so that radiometric calibration of AMS data has been accomplished by those results. The calibrated AMS data were validated with in-situ measured reflectance data from artificial and natural target. Also QuickBird image data were used for verifying the results of AMS radiometric calibration. This presentation discusses the results of the above tests.
The strain measurement of the panel in the sheet metal forming is essential work which provides experimental data needed to die design, process design, and product inspection. To measure efficiently the complex geometry strain, the 3-dimensional automative strain measurement system, which has high accuracy in theory, but has some 3∼5% errors in practice, is often used. The object of this study is to develop the error compensation technology to eliminate the strain, errors resulted when formed panels are measured using an automated strain measurement system. To achieve the study object, the position error calibration method correcting coordinates of the grid node recognized by a camera using error functions is suggested. Then the position errors were found by calculating the difference in the position of the cube node between real coordinates and measured coordinates in toms of node coordinates and the error calibration equations were derived by regressing the position errors. In order to show the validation of the suggested position error calibration method, finite element analysis and current calibration method was performed for the initial-blankformed.
In this study, three optimization techniques efficiency is assessed for calibration of the GR4J model for streamflow simulation in Selmacheon, Boryeong Dam and Kyeongancheon watersheds located in South Korea. The Penman-Monteith equation is applied to estimate the potential evapotranspiration, model calibration, and validation is carried out using the readily available daily hydro-meteorological data. The Shuffled Complex Evolution-University of Arizona(SCE-UA), Uniform Adaptive Monte Carlo (UAMC), and Coupled Latin Hypercube and Rosenbrock (CLHR) optimization techniques has been used to evaluate the robustness, performance and optimized parameters of the three catchments. The result of the three algorithms performances and optimized parameters are within the recommended ranges in the tested watersheds. The SCE-UA and CLHR outputs are found to be similar both in efficiency and model parameters. However, the UAMC algorithms performances differently in the three tested watersheds.
The major purpose of this paper is to develop an uncertainty estimate for the calibration of thermopile instruments used to measure solar radiation parameters. We briefly describe the solar radiation parameters most often measured, instrumentation, reference standards, and calibration techniques. The bulk of the paper describes elemental sources of error and their magnitude. We then apply a standard error analysis methodology to combine these elemental error estimates into a statement of total uncertainty for the instrument calibration factor. Our results allow one to evaluate the accuracy of a radiometric measurement using thermopile instrumentation in the light of the application, such as engineering test evaluation or for validation of theoretical models.
A reversed phase HPLC analysis of atorvastatin (AS) standard solution was performed using diclofenac (DF) as internal standard. Column oven temperature, flow rate and the composition of the mobile phase were varied in order to determine a practical system setup using a C18 column and UV detector. Two C18 columns of different length were compared regarding their influence on the AS peak shape. Based on these preliminary experiments a validation study was performed utilizing a C18 column at $62^{\circ}C$ with a mobile phase consisting of sodium phosphate buffer (0.05 M, pH 4.0), methanol and acetonitrile (40:50:10, v/v/v). The detection limit for AS was $0.1{\mu}g/ml$ and inter- and intra-day calibration curves were linear over a concentration range of $0.2-50{\mu}g/ml$. Accuracy and precision were satisfactory in the AS concentration range of $0.5-50{\mu}g/ml$.
This article identifies and addresses current limitations on the use of numerical models for validation and/or calibration of damage detection methodologies that are based on the analysis of the high frequency response of the structure to identify the occurrence of abrupt anomalies. Distributed-plasticity non-linear fiber-based models in combination with experimental data from a full-scale reinforced concrete column test are used to point out current modeling techniques limitations. It was found that the numerical model was capable of reproducing the global and local response of the structure at a wide range of inelastic demands, including the occurrences of rebar ruptures. However, when abrupt sudden damage occurs, like rebar fracture, a high frequency pulse is detected in the accelerations recorded in the structure that the numerical model is incapable of reproducing. Since the occurrence of such pulse is fundamental on the detection of damage, it is proposed to add this effect to the simulated response before it is used for validation purposes.

The purpose of this study was to validate a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the quantitative analysis of quercetin in various foods. The method was based on HPLC-UV (360 nm). The method was validated using candy, beverage, and sausage which were tested for specificity, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy, and the measurement uncertainty was assessed. Matrix-matched calibration was also applied. The calibration curves (0.5-50 mg/L) showed good linearity (r2≥0.9998). LOD and LOQ ranged from 0.15 to 0.31 mg/kg and from 0.44 to 0.93 mg/kg, respectively. The average accuracy and precision at 0.5, 2.5, and 10 mg/kg ranged from 84.3 to 102.0% and 0.7 to 3.0 relative standard deviation (RSD%), respectively. This study confirmed the applicability of the proposed method by applying it to commercial products, such as teas and beverages. Thus, the proposed analytical method is suitable for quantifying quercetin in various foods.
