근적외 분광분석법을 응용한 마요네즈의 식염 농도측정 (Measurement of Mayonnaise Salt Content by Near-Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy)

  • 비파괴적이고 신속분석이 가능한 근적외 분광분석법으로 마요네즈의 식염분석을 시도하였다. 식염은 근적외선영역에서 주성분 피크가 존재하지 않음으로 식염 함량을 다양한 통계처리 기법중에 PLS회귀법을 사용하여 100시료로 검량식을 작성하였다. $1{\sim}15$개 요인변수를 사용하여 작성된 검량식 중에서 최소값의 SECV, SE를 갖는 3개의 검량식(요인변수 : 10, 11, 12)을 선택하였다. 이 검량식들을 독립된 40시료의 검정용 시료에 적용시켜 검정한 결과, 요인변수 11의 검량식이 R 0.946, SEP 0.0166%로 가장 우수하게 평가되었다. 이 결과로부터 마요네즈의 식염분석이 근적외 분광분석법으로 측정 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

External Validation of a Clinical Scoring System for Hematuria

  • Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of a new scoring system in Korean patients with hematuria at high risk of bladder cancer. Materials and Methods: A total of 319 consecutive patients presenting with painless hematuria without a history of bladder cancer were analyzed, from the period of August 2012 to February 2014. All patients underwent clinical examination, and 22 patients with incomplete data were excluded from the final validation data set. The scoring system included four clinical parameters: age (${\geq}50$ = 2 vs. <50 =1), gender (male = 2 vs. female = 1), history of smoking (smoker/ex-smoker = 4 vs. non-smoker = 2) and nature of the hematuria (gross = 6 vs. microscopic = 2). Results: The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (95% confidence interval) of the scoring system was 0.718 (0.655-0.777). The calibration plot demonstrated a slight underestimation of bladder cancer probability, but the model had reasonable calibration. Decision curve analysis revealed that the use of model was associated with net benefit gains over the treat-all strategy. The scoring system performed well across a wide range of threshold probabilities (15%-45%). Conclusions: The scoring system developed is a highly accurate predictive tool for patients with hematuria. Although further improvements are needed, utilization of this system may assist primary care physicians and other healthcare practitioners in determining a patient's risk of bladder cancer.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the standard method for the analysis of organophosphorous pesticides such as chlorpyrifos, diazinon, malathion and parathion in blood. We performed method validation for these pesticides in blood according to EURACHEM (A focus For Analytical Chemistry in Europe) guide. For the analysis of the pesticides, we used solid-phase extraction ,column (Waters Oasis $HLB^{(R)}$. After the extraction, the supernatants were evaporated to dryness under the nitrogen stream. They were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) after reconstituting with ethanol. Terbufos was used as an internal standard. To validate this method, we performed verification procedures with the following parameters: selectivity, linearity of calibration, accuracy, precision, limit of detection and quantification. Validation data according to Eurachem guide were adequate for our purpose for the analysis of chlorpyrifos, diazinon, malathion and parathion in blood.

Measurement of Lipid Content of Compost in the fermentation Process using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

  • Near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) was applied to determination of the lipid content of compost during compost fermentation of tofu(soybean-curd) refuse. The reflected rays in the wavelength range between 800 and 2500 nm were measured at 2 nm intervals. The absorption of lipid observed at 4 wavelengths, 1208, 1712, 2312 and 2352 nm on the second derivative spectra. To formulate a calibration equation, a multiple linear regression analysis was carried out between the near-infrared spectral data and on the lipid content in the calibration sample set (sample number, n=60) obtained using a Soxhlet extraction method. The calibration equation for prediction of lipid, the value of the multiple correlation coefficient (R) was 0.975 when using the wavelengths of 1208 and 1712nm. To validate the calibration equation obtained, the lipid content in the validation sample set (n=35) not used for formulating the calibration equation were calculated using the calibration equations, and compared with the values obtained using the Soxhlet extraction method. Good agreement were observed between the results of the Soxhlet extraction method and those values of the NIRS method. The simple correlation coefficient (r) and standard error of prediction (SEP) were 0.964 and 0.815 %, respectively. Then, the NIRS method was applied to a compost fermentation in which the time course the lipid content were measured and good results were obtained. The study indicates that NIRS is a useful method for process management of the compost fermentation of tofu refuse.

The decrease of the lipid content in the compost corresponded to the decrease of the total dry weight of the compost in the composter. The lipid content was a significant indicator of the compost fermentation. The NIRS method was applied to measure the time course of the lipid content in the compost fermentation and good results were obtained. The study indicates that NIRS is a useful method for process management of the compost fermentation of tofu refuse.

Assessment of Water Quality Calibration Criteria for Field-Scale Water Quality Model

  • The objective of this study was to assess the statistics and associated criteria for field-scale model used to simulate nutrient concentrations in paddy field. CREAMS-PADDY, a modified version of the field-scale CREAMS model, simulates the hydrologic, sediment, and nutrient cycles in paddy fields was applied in this study. The model was calibrated and validated using data from study rice paddy fields in Republic of Korea. The calibration statistics include mean and the minimum-maximum range associated with a "temporal window" that spans a period of several days. Because nutrient concentrations in paddy filed are typically sampled infrequently (on a weekly basis, at best) and represent only an instant in time, it is not reasonable to expect any model to simulate a daily average concentration equal to an observed value on a particular day. The 5-day window and related calibration statistics were applied in this study and the applicability of this concept was tested for field-scale water quality model. As a result of calibration and validation, the ponded water nutrient concentration values showed only small changes except the fertilization period. Because of the small changes in ponded water concentration, the size of 5-day window was too small to capture the observed values. Further study is required to establish the 5-day window calibration method for field-scale water quality modeling.

검교정이 필요한 무기체계 정비장비의 구매 대수 결정을 위한 대기행렬이론 연구 (A study on decision number of maintenance equipment with calibration for weapon system with Queueing Theory)

  • 무기체계는 기술의 발달로 인하여 급속도로 발전하고 있다. 이러한 발전덕분에 과거 무기체계에서 보지 못했던 고가의 첨단 전자장비들이 포함된 무기체계가 등장하게 되었다. 더불어, 고도의 기술이 적용된 무기체계의 운영 및 유지보수를 위한 장비유지예산 또한 증가되고 있다. 그러나 장비유지예산은 장비자산대비 그 비율이 감소추세에 있어, 효율적인 무기체계 운영에 어려움이 초래되고 있다. 이처럼 고비용 환경이 되고 있는 국방경영 및 감소되고 있는 장비유지예산을 고려하는 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구는 무기체계를 운영 및 유지보수 하는데 필요한 정비장비에 초점을 두고 있다. 최신 무기체계는 계측장비와 같은 정비장비를 활용하여 무기체계의 정렬 및 검교정 절차를 수행 후, 적정한 무기 성능이 유효하다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 계측장비는 주기적으로 업체 외주정비(검교정 절차)를 하여 계측장비 자체의 정렬 및 상태 이상 유무를 확인해야 한다. 일반적으로 계측장비는 신뢰성이 입증된 해외업체의 계측장비를 구매하게 되고, 이러한 계측장비는 주기적으로 해외 외주정비를 받을 수밖에 없게 된다. 즉, 정비장비가 해외 외주정비를 진행하는 동안, 해당 무기체계는 성능에 대해 신뢰할 수 없으며 불가용 상태라고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 정비장비의 해외 외주정비로 인해 발생하는 무기체계의 손실비용과 정비장비의 구매 비용을 비교하여, 적절한 정비장비의 구매 대수를 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구의 결과가 효율적 작전 수행 보장에 기여할 것으로 판단되며, 전력 공백 문제를 해결 가능한 방안이 될 것이다.

Development and Validation of a Breast Cancer Risk Prediction Model for Thai Women: A Cross-Sectional Study

  • Background: Breast cancer risk prediction models are widely used in clinical practice. They should be useful in identifying high risk women for screening in limited-resource countries. However, previous models showed poor performance in derived and validated settings. Therefore, we aimed to develop and validate a breast cancer risk prediction model for Thai women. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of derived and validation phases. Data collected at Ramathibodi and other two hospitals were used for deriving and externally validating models, respectively. Multiple logistic regression was applied to construct the model. Calibration and discrimination performances were assessed using the observed/expected ratio and concordance statistic (C-statistic), respectively. A bootstrap with 200 repetitions was applied for internal validation. Results: Age, menopausal status, body mass index, and use of oral contraceptives were significantly associated with breast cancer and were included in the model. Observed/expected ratio and C-statistic were 1.00 (95% CI: 0.82, 1.21) and 0.651 (95% CI: 0.595, 0.707), respectively. Internal validation showed good performance with a bias of 0.010 (95% CI: 0.002, 0.018) and C-statistic of 0.646(95% CI: 0.642, 0.650). The observed/expected ratio and C-statistic from external validation were 0.97 (95% CI: 0.68, 1.35) and 0.609 (95% CI: 0.511, 0.706), respectively. Risk scores were created and was stratified as low (0-0.86), low-intermediate (0.87-1.14), intermediate-high (1.15-1.52), and high-risk (1.53-3.40) groups. Conclusions: A Thai breast cancer risk prediction model was created with good calibration and fair discrimination performance. Risk stratification should aid to prioritize high risk women to receive an organized breast cancer screening program in Thailand and other limited-resource countries.

Calibration of Portable Particulate Mattere-Monitoring Device using Web Query and Machine Learning

  • Background: Monitoring and control of PM2.5 are being recognized as key to address health issues attributed to PM2.5. Availability of low-cost PM2.5 sensors made it possible to introduce a number of portable PM2.5 monitors based on light scattering to the consumer market at an affordable price. Accuracy of light scatteringe-based PM2.5 monitors significantly depends on the method of calibration. Static calibration curve is used as the most popular calibration method for low-cost PM2.5 sensors particularly because of ease of application. Drawback in this approach is, however, the lack of accuracy. Methods: This study discussed the calibration of a low-cost PM2.5-monitoring device (PMD) to improve the accuracy and reliability for practical use. The proposed method is based on construction of the PM2.5 sensor network using Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol and web query of reference measurement data available at government-authorized PM monitoring station (GAMS) in the republic of Korea. Four machine learning (ML) algorithms such as support vector machine, k-nearest neighbors, random forest, and extreme gradient boosting were used as regression models to calibrate the PMD measurements of PM2.5. Performance of each ML algorithm was evaluated using stratified K-fold cross-validation, and a linear regression model was used as a reference. Results: Based on the performance of ML algorithms used, regression of the output of the PMD to PM2.5 concentrations data available from the GAMS through web query was effective. The extreme gradient boosting algorithm showed the best performance with a mean coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.78 and standard error of 5.0 ㎍/㎥, corresponding to 8% increase in R2 and 12% decrease in root mean square error in comparison with the linear regression model. Minimum 100 hours of calibration period was found required to calibrate the PMD to its full capacity. Calibration method proposed poses a limitation on the location of the PMD being in the vicinity of the GAMS. As the number of the PMD participating in the sensor network increases, however, calibrated PMDs can be used as reference devices to nearby PMDs that require calibration, forming a calibration chain through MQTT protocol. Conclusions: Calibration of a low-cost PMD, which is based on construction of PM2.5 sensor network using MQTT protocol and web query of reference measurement data available at a GAMS, significantly improves the accuracy and reliability of a PMD, thereby making practical use of the low-cost PMD possible.

Development and deployment of large scale wireless sensor network on a long-span bridge

  • Testing and validation processes are critical tasks in developing a new hardware platform based on a new technology. This paper describes a series of experiments to evaluate the performance of a newly developed MEMS-based wireless sensor node as part of a wireless sensor network (WSN). The sensor node consists of a sensor board with four accelerometers, a thermometer and filtering and digitization units, and a MICAz mote for control, local computation and communication. The experiments include calibration and linearity tests for all sensor channels on the sensor boards, dynamic range tests to evaluate their performance when subjected to varying excitation, noise characteristic tests to quantify the noise floor of the sensor board, and temperature tests to study the behavior of the sensors under changing temperature profiles. The paper also describes a large-scale deployment of the WSN on a long-span suspension bridge, which lasted over three months and continuously collected ambient vibration and temperature data on the bridge. Statistical modal properties of a bridge tower are presented and compared with similar estimates from a previous deployment of sensors on the bridge and finite element models.
