  • We present in this paper a novel power load prediction method using temporal pattern mining from AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) data. Since the power load patterns have time-varying characteristic and very different patterns according to the hour, time, day and week and so on, it gives rise to the uninformative results if only traditional data mining is used. Also, research on data mining for analyzing electric load patterns focused on cluster analysis and classification methods. However despite the usefulness of rules that include temporal dimension and the fact that the AMR data has temporal attribute, the above methods were limited in static pattern extraction and did not consider temporal attributes. Therefore, we propose a new classification method for predicting power load patterns. The main tasks include clustering method and temporal classification method. Cluster analysis is used to create load pattern classes and the representative load profiles for each class. Next, the classification method uses representative load profiles to build a classifier able to assign different load patterns to the existing classes. The proposed classification method is the Calendar-based temporal mining and it discovers electric load patterns in multiple time granularities. Lastly, we show that the proposed method used AMR data and discovered more interest patterns.

  • We examined five astronomical variables formulas of the two conventional harmonic prediction programs (IOS tidal package (IOS) and Task-2000 tidal package (Task2K)) in relation to hindcast of paleo-tides and -tidal currents on historical navel battlefields such as Myeongryang Naval Battle (September 16th, 1597 according to the lunar calendar). Through the comparison of the resultant values in a certain time (00:00 January 1) of each year (1801, 1800 and 1597) calculated from the two different formulas, we understood that the reason why Task2K is incapable of hindcating them in pre-19th century, Specifically, we found that the Task2K formulas directly using the Gregorian calendar date did not identify leap years in calculating astronomical variables beyond the period of 1801-2099. Therefore, the IOS's formulas, which use the day number referenced on midnight 1/1/0000, are recommended for use in hindcasting paleo-tides and -tidal currents on historical navel battles in pre-19th century.

  • Since the division of the Korean Peninsula in 1948, South and North Korea have independently developed their astronomical almanacs: Ryeokseo at the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute in South Korea and Cheonmunryeok at the Pyongyang Astronomical Observatory in North Korea. This study compares Ryeokseo and Cheonmunryeok for the year 2015, focusing on publication systems, content, terminology, and differences in data calculation methods. Additionally, it examines the calendars of South and North Korea from 2018 to 2023, analyzing similarities and differences in the representation of calendrical dates, public holidays, and other related aspects. The findings reveal that while the structure and content of the astronomical almanacs are similar in both countries, notable variances exist in the versions of ephemerides, time scales, and calculation precision. Consequently, identical data points are often recorded with slightly different values in each country's almanacs. Furthermore, approximately 28% of the terms used in North Korea's astronomical almanac are either not utilized in South Korea or have different definitions. Regarding calendar systems, those of South and North Korea are largely similar, resulting in no significant discrepancies in dates. However, there are notable differences in the observance of public holidays. While traditional holidays are common to both, most holidays are distinctively celebrated. Notably, North Korea does not observe religious holidays, and many of its holidays are associated with the regime.

  • The results of study on planting and cultivate of Hong Man-Seon(1643~1715)'s 'Salimkyungjae(The Economy of Forest)' the first summative textbook of agricultural skill of South Korea, are as follows. First, 'Salimkyungjae' suggests that one can enrich oneself, eat fruits in fall, enjoy the shade of trees in summer, and enjoy flowers in spring if one plants tree with 10 year plan with knowledge of ecology. Second, the number of plants had increased continuously from the early Chosun Dynasty to the mid Chosun Dynasty. The 52 plants in the book are classified into 31 trees, 8 shrubs, 3 others, and 10 herbs, and 28 of them are fruit trees. Hence, we can see that the book is for the promotion of welfare. Third, planting(transplantation) is the best on January of the lunar calendar, and the second on February, and fertile soil should be added much. Trees must be planted as deep as once it was planted, and buttressed. It will sprout well if it is planted at the depth of one inch, and planting a cutting should be carried out at the early March with 5 inch and finger-thick branches. Grafting is the best when it begins to sprout. Fruit trees will bear many fruits if they are grafted at the direction of South, and fruits will be greater if the trees' branches are cutting off on January. Especially, January was selected for the best season of planting traditionally. Fourth, flower trees are planted or sowed with manure around January and February of the lunar calendar, and it is recommended to replant them into flowerpots with manure when having flower buds around March and April of the lunar calendar. It would bloom earlier when using water mixed with stable manure, and sulfur smoke can be used in order to change the flower color from red to white. Flowerpots would be placed at half shaded lot with being supported by bricks. Pomegranate, gardenia, camellia and four-season flower should be planted after flowers fallen. When flower trees are beside walls, they need to be rotated frequently since their branches all point toward house. Seeds need to be preserved in a sunny hut, where its entrance and ventilating openings would be at south because it is convenient to manage pots. Fifth, insects hidden at fruit trees would be destroyed by torch smoke when roosters cry on New year's day of the lunar calendar. Insects would be decoyed into straw hanged at dawn of Cheongmyeongday(淸明日). Insects on fruit trees would be controlled using sulfur powder to close up holes or sulfur smoke to fumigate. Particularly, it suggests that utilization of fertile soil would be the best solution for growing health plants and preventing pest.

  • This study aims at analysis hog cycles and seasonal price patterns, and at develop the procedure for price forecasting based on the relative price ratios by farmers. Seasonal price patterns have been a persistent feature of hog markets. Some month have historically high price and other months historically low price. Hog price tend to be high in Feb, May, June, Sept, winter (Nov. to Jan.) and tend to be low in the other months. There have been four price cycles for 12 years, 1972-1984, the length of the hog price cycle has varied from 24 month to 42 months, with the irregular frequency. The increasing period of the price cycle lasted 23 months and the decreasing period of the price cycle lasted 13 months. Tables 2, 3, 4 in this study show average hog price ratios and the number of times price fall, rose for one, two, and three months ahead of each calendar month.

  • It is well known that smoother surface in substrate for coating or converting can obtain better results. Generally paper substrate is taking machine calendar process in papermaking system to give more uniformity and to get better coating runnability. This paper was prepared to find better idea for obtaining smoother surface after precalendering precoated paper as a substrate of double coating system. It was shown precalendering had effect on roughness improvement for precoating layer but was difficult to say it was effected to supercalendering results for double coating. The porosity and ink evaluation with precalendered double coated paper is needed to identify more essential clue for precalendering effect.

  • In this paper, we analyze time data (i.e., new moon time, sunrise and sunset times, twenty-four seasonal subdivision times, and so forth) in the Japanese astronomical almanacs between 1885 and 1943. During this period, two types of astronomical almanacs were published in Japan; Honreki (本曆; Formal Almanac) and its simplified version, Ryakuhonreki (略本曆). We use mainly the latter almanac for analyzing the time data. It is also known that Japan introduced the Gregorian calendar in 1873, adopted the standard meridian of $135^{\circ}E$ in 1888, and used Tokyo Observatory (東京天文臺; $139^{\circ}$ 44' 30" E and $35^{\circ}$ 39' 15" N) as the reference position of time data since 1891. We verify those facts and investigate the accuracy of time data in Japanese almanacs by comparing the data with the results of modern calculations. In this study, we present our findings.
