  • The confinement degradation of the energetic particles during RMP would be a key issue in success of realizing the successful energy production using fusion plasma, because a 3.5 MeV energetic alpha particle should be able to sustain the burning plasma after the ignition. As KSTAR recent results indicate the generation of high-performance plasma(${\beta}_p{\sim}3$), the confinement of the energetic particles is also an important key aspect in neutral beam driven plasma. In general, the measured absolute value of the neutron intensity is generally used for to estimating the confinement time of energetic particles by comparing it with the theoretical value based on transport calculations. However, the availability of, but for its calculation process, many accurate diagnostic data of plasma parameters such as thermal and incident fast ion density, are essential to the calculation process. In this paper, the time evolution of the neutron signal from an He3 counter during the beam blank has permitted to facilitate the estimation of the slowing down time of energetic particles and the method is applied to investigate the fast ion effect on ELM suppressed KSTAR plasma which is heated by high energy deuterium neutral beams.

  • APro, developed in KAERI for the process-based total system performance assessment (TSPA) of deep geological disposal systems, performs finite element method (FEM)-based multiphysics analysis. In the FEM-based analysis, the mesh element quality influences the numerical solution accuracy, memory requirement, and computation time. Therefore, an appropriate mesh structure should be constructed before the mesh stability analysis to achieve an accurate and efficient process-based TSPA. A generic reference case of DECOVALEX-2023 Task F, which has been proposed for simulating stationary groundwater flow and time-dependent conservative transport of two tracers, was used in this study for mesh stability analysis. The relative differences in tracer concentration varying mesh structures were determined by comparing with the results for the finest mesh structure. For calculation efficiency, the memory requirements and computation time were compared. Based on the mesh stability analysis, an approach based on adaptive mesh refinement was developed to resolve the error in the early stage of the simulation time-period. It was observed that the relative difference in the tracer concentration significantly decreased with high calculation efficiency.

  • Ignition delay of second injection of HSDI diesel engine was usually much shorter than that of first injection. It is due to the interaction between radicals generated during the combustion process, and mixed gas of second injection. In this paper, To analyze combustion phenomena of multiple injection mode in HSDI diesel engine effectively, two-dimensional flamelet combustion model was modified. To reduce calculation time, two-dimensional flamelet equations were only applied near stoichiometric region. If this region was ignited, species and temperature of other region were changed to the steady-state solutions of one dimensional flamelet equations. By this method calculation time for solving flamelet equations was reduced to 20 percents, thought the results were almost same. Modified flamelet combustion model was coupled to commercial CFD code interactively using user subroutine.

  • In this paper, we propose a rasterizer architecture using varying interpolator which process several pixels at a time. Proposed rasterizer is able to handle 16 pixel at a time and output the color of up to 64. It can reduce the redundancy of calculation by configuring a matrix transformation and matrix calculation for rasterization, and it can enhance the speed of rasterizer by increasing the reusability. As a result, proposed rasterizer has improve 11% in color interpolation, 17% in the processing speed of the rasterizer by comparing with conventional research.

  • Ventilation rates can be measured directly by a tracer decay method, although little is known of the effects of different sampling intervals on decay rte calculations. This study determined variations in decay rates calculated by three techniques using residential ozone decay data. The calculation techniques were a regression technique, decay techniques using half-life and average-life, and finite difference techniques using two different time intervals. Variation associated with regression technique calculations for residential ozone decay rates based on data from both sample intervals were within 10% (2.81$\pm$1.88 hr-1). However, both half-life and finite difference technique calculations using a shorter-time interval were significantly different from those obtained with the regression technique(p<0.05). Therefore, the use of short sampling intervals in tracer decay may cause significant error in decay rate calculations.

  • Among many amplitude parameters, Kurtosis (4-th normalized moment of probability density function) is recognized to be the sensitive good parameter for machine diagnosis. Kurtosis has a value of 3.0 under normal condition and the value generally goes up as the deterioration proceeds. In this paper, simplified calculation method of kurtosis is introduced for the analysis of impact vibration with one sided affiliated impact vibration which occurs towards the progress of time. That phenomenon is often watched in the failure of such as bearings’ outer race. One sided affiliated impact vibration is approximated by one sided triangle towards the progress of time and simplified calculation method is introduced. Varying the shape of one sided triangle, various models are examined and it is proved that new index is a sensitive good index for machine failure diagnosis. Utilizing this method, the behavior of kurtosis is forecasted and analyzed while watching machine condition and correct diagnosis is executed.

  • In this paper, by extending the previously developed self- and mutual-radiation impedance calculation method for a regular-square vibrating surface by using numerical series, we proposed a method to obtain the self-radiation impedance of a rectangular transducer with an arbitrary integer ratio of the length to width. The proposed method exhibits high accuracy and a short computation time. After investigating the accuracy and computation time as the number of elements changes, we have calculated the self-radiation impedance of several rectangular transducers, and compared the results with those in the literature.

  • The rectilinear Steiner tree problem is to find a minimum-length rectilinear interconnection of a set of terminals in the plane. It is well known that the solution to this problem will be the minimal spanning tree (MST) on some set Steiner points. A hybrid evolutionary algorithm is introduced based upon the Prim algorithm. The Prim algorithm for the fitness evaluation requires heavy calculation time. The fitness value of parents is inherited to their child and the fitness value of child is estimated by the inherited structure of tree. We introduce four alternative evolutionary algorithms, Experiment result shows that the calculation time is reduced to 25% without loosing the solution quality by using the fitness estimation.

  • New method for evaluation of heat transfer coefficient is proposed. In general, many researchers have been studied about inverse problem in order to calculate the heat transfer coefficient on three-dimensional heat conduction problem. But they can get the time-dependent heat transfer coefficient only through inverse problem. In order to acquire temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient, it requires much time for numerous repetitive calculation and inconvenient manual modification. In order to solve these problems, we are using the SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming) as an optimization algorithm. When the temperature history is given by experiment, the optimization algorithm can evaluate the temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient with automatic repetitive calculation until difference between calculated temperature history and experimental ones is minimized. Finally, temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficient evaluated by developed program can used on various heat transfer problem.

  • In the area of data clustering in high dimensional space, one of the difficulties is the time-consuming process for computing vector similarities. It becomes worse in the case of the agglomerative algorithm with the group-average link and mean centroid method, because the cluster similarity must be recomputed whenever the cluster center moves after the merging step. As a solution of this problem, we present an incremental method of similarity computation, which substitutes the scalar calculation for the time-consuming calculation of vector similarity with several measures such as the squared distance, inner product, cosine, and minimum variance. Experimental results show that it makes clustering speed significantly fast for very high dimensional data.
