  • Average illuminance and luminance can be calculated by graphical methods to a certain extent but to calculate for a wide place a suitable software is needed. Softwares suitable for this purpose have been already developed in foreign nations, but the appropriate softwares for domestic use have not been developed. Therefore a program is developed which is executable in Hangul Windows. The softwares LAPRoad, is developed to calculate luminance and illuminance distribution of road surface, as well as average luminance and illuminance, overall uniformity, longitudinal uniformity, threshold increment veilling luminance and glare. And an apparatus that measures road surface reflection properties is developed. Because the road surface reflection properties is very important in luminance calculation, then concrete road surface reflection properties were measured.

  • A two-dimensional transient heat transfer model for reactive gas assisted laser cutting process with a moving Gaussian heat source is developed using a numerical finite difference technique. The kerf width, melting front shape and temperature distribution were calculated by using the boundary-fitted coordinate system to handle the ejection of workpiece material and heat input from reaction and evaporation. An analytical solution for cutting front movement was adopted and numerical simulation was performed to calculate the temperature distribution and melting front thickness. To calculate the moving velocity of cutting front, the normal distribution of the cutting gas velocity was used. The kerf width was revealed to be dependent on the cutting velocity, laser power and cutting gas velocity.

  • The present study was conducted to estimate the effect on fouling reduction in tubes of the condenser. It shows in detail how to calculate the fouling factor from the experimental results of refrigeration systems with or without the automatic cleaning system using sponge balls and to predict the variation of the factor with time. It also represents how to calculate the temperature and pressure decrease of the refrigerant vapor in the condenser and the load decrease of the compressor in the refrigeration system by fouling reduction.

  • Discrete torsional bracing systems are widely used in practice to increase the strength of I-girders bridges. This paper proposes equations for lateral-torsional buckling strength, torsional natural frequency and stiffness requirements of I-girders with discrete torsional bracings. Firstly, the equations to calculate the critical moment of the I-girder with discrete torsional bracings are introduced. The proposed equations are then compared with the results of finite element analyses and those from previous studies. The equations to calculate the torsional natural frequency are also presented in the same manner. From the results, it is found that proposed equations agree well with results of finite element analyses regardless of the number of bracing points. Finally, the reduced formula for the total torsional stiffness requirement is proposed for the design purpose.

  • An analysis on pressure drop in vortex amplifier has been performed. Based on theoretical approach with flow physics on well-known firm ground from previous studies, two dimensional flow model, which is very useful to calculate pressure drop of vortex amplifier, is proposed. Parametric studies on inlet and outlet boundary conditions also have been performed so that it found the most influential parameter is the inlet swirl velocity condition. Finally, a simple formulation is given to calculate total pressure drop.

  • A numerical study has been conducted to investigate the effect of inflow supply air temperature and velocity on ventilation effectiveness in an underfloor air conditioning space. A low Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ model is implemented to calculate steady state turbulent velocity distributions. A step-down injection method is used to calculate local and room mean ages from transient concentrations based on the concept of the age of air. Results show that there is a significant effect of Archimedes number on ventilation effectiveness especially for cooling conditions. Reynolds number shows relatively minor effect on velocity distribution and ventilation effectiveness especially for isothermal and heating conditions. It can be concluded that underfloor air conditioning system provides good ventilation characteristics for cooling conditions because of temperature stratification in the space.

  • The conventional clustering approaches are mostly based on minimizing total dissimilarity of input and output. However, the clustering approach may not be helpful in some cases of clustering decision making units (DMUs) with production feature converting multiple inputs into multiple outputs because it does not care converting functions. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been widely applied for efficiency estimation of such DMUs since it has non-parametric characteristics. We propose a new clustering method to identify groups of DMUs that are similar in terms of their input-output profiles. A real world example is given to explain the use and effectiveness of the proposed method. And we calculate similarity value between its result and the result of a conventional clustering method applied to the example. After the efficiency value was added to input of K-means algorithm, we calculate new similarity value and compare it with the previous one.

  • This paper describes the estimation method of hull girder response of ships due to springing. To this aim, nonlinear springing effect on the hull girder is evaluated including vertical, horizontal, and torsional deformation of the hull. The Timoshenko beam model is used to calculate the stress distribution on the hull girder. The quadratic strip method is employed to calculate the hydrodynamic forces and moments on the hull. In order to remove the irregular frequencies, 'rigid lid'is adopted on the hull free surface level and hydrodynamic coefficients are interpolated for asymptotic values. The results of example calculation show a reasonable agreement with previous results for both symmetric and anti-symmetric responses.

  • To satisfy the requirement for the precision and productivity of machine tools, we need the technique to predict the surface roughness of workpiece under various cutting conditions. The surface roughness is mainly influenced by the ideal roughness i. e., the roughness by feeding quantity and geometry of the tool. In this paper, the surface roughness is divided into three zones and the mathematical models of the three zones are obtained, in consideration of the feeding conditions and tool geometry. Using the mathematical models, we developed a program to calculate the maximum feeding quantity satisfying the required surface roughness of the workpiece. The program is used to calculate the maximum feed for two kinds of the bites used under the real cutting condition.

  • This study, with a view to establishing the objective and concrete methodology of partition of properly by the married couple in the process of divorce, is to suggest the calculation method of impartial division of property by means of applying the system to division of remainder used in Germany. Generally, the process of estimating the amount of partitioned property has two steps, the first of which is to calculate the remainder of the husband and the wife each. The second step is to compare the remainders of the couple and calculate the difference in order for the spouse who has more to claim the payment of a half of the difference. This method has the advantage of dividing impartially the remainder obtained by labor in the married life.
