  • Novel method to calculate flux linkage for 3-D finite element analysis is proposed. It does not require any integral path if the current direction in a coil is known. The flux linkage can be calculated very easily using simple volume based integration. The current direction is calculated based on the recently developed technique by the authors. The novel method for flux linkage calculation is verified by applying to a very complicated deflection yoke coil. The simulation result is compared to the experimental one. From the simulation, it is shown that the proposed method is very accurate and effective to calculate the flux linkage of a coil.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to calculate the behaviors of inter-phase spacers to reduce the amplitude of galloping in conductors. In simulation, three phases and iced-single/two-bundles conductors with/without spacers are considered in viewpoint of standard cases. The implicit/explicit finite element methods are used to calculate the transient response with geometric nonlinear behavior. The ANSYS/LS-DYNA program is also applied. Calculation results can be used to predict the positions to insert the inter-phase spacers between conductors.

  • This paper presents a sequential framework that calculates the total transfer capabilities of power transmission systems. The proposed algorithm enhances the Power System Transfer Capability Program (PSTCP) in conjunction with the Continuation Power Flow(CPF) that is used for steady-state voltage stability analysis and modified Arnoldi-Chebyshev method that calculates rightmost eigenvalues for small signal stability analysis. The proposed algorithm is applied to IEEE 39-bus test system to calculate TTC.

  • This paper Presents an algorithm for the computation of fault location for a transmission line by means of the voltage and current signals. It is impossible to calculate the accurate fault distance, because of the fault resistance and fault current which are unknown. All Currents in the lines are divided by the current distribution factor, so the fault current through the fault resistance can be represented by using data from one terminal of transmission line. This algorithm proposed can calculate the fault distance with only the faulty phase information.

  • A real-time collision-free trajectory control method for dual arm robot system is proposed. The proposed method is composed of two stages; one is to calculate the minimum distance between two robot arms and the other is to control the trajectories of the robots to ensure collision-free motions. The calculation of minimum distance between two robots is, also, composed of two steps. To reduce the calculation time, we, first, apply a simple modeling technique to the robots arms and determine the interested part of the robot arms. Next, we apply more precise modeling techniques for the part to calculate the minimum distance. Simulation results show that the whole algorithm runs within 0.05 second using Pentium 100MHz PC.

  • This paper introduces the outline of hull structure to the sorts of LNG carrier briefly. Especially, explains in detail for the insulation system of Moss Rosenberg Verft spherical tank type LNG carrier. It is not easy task to calculate exactly the temperature distribution of hull because of very complicated structure of hull. Therefore, in this paper by the adequate modeling of the Moss Rosengerg spherical tank type LNG carrier, a program is developed which calculate the temperature distribution of every hull and estimate the heat influx from every hull and output the BOR according to the variation of atmospheric conditions on boyage.

  • In gradient based optimization methods, the finite differencing which uses small perturbations in the design variables has been used to calculate the sensitivity. Recently, the automatic differentiation has been widely studied to calculate the function value and the sensitivities simultaneously. In this paper, the applicability of the automatic differentiation In the aerodynamic design optimization is studied. ADIFOR and TAPENADE are used to generate the codes which give the function value and the sensitivities for 2D compressible inviscid flows.

  • Study of Weldment fracture behavior mcludes thermal analysis, residual stress analysis, and fracture analysis The 1-integral loses its path-independency in a res~dual stress field Therefore, it id necessary to develop a program to calculate the J-integral in a welded plate. m this study, theoretical formulation and program were developed for the evaluation of the 1-integral at the crack tip o i weldments. To verify equations and program, welded thin plate and thick plate were used to calculate residual stress and the J-integral.

  • In the conventional remote monitoring system, a user in front of a computer monitor can acquire only 2 dimensional visual information in a passive way. Thus, even thoght the user finds an interesting object from the video image, helshe can hardly acquire additional information on the object such as name. 311 shape, etc. In this paper, an active monitoring system that shows additional information on the selected object is proposed. The active remote monitoring system can calculate the 3D position of the object that is selected in the video images. Then, using the 3D position of the object, other information on the object can be retrieved from the database and shown on the screen. To calculate the 3D position of the object, 2 CCD cameras that can be tilted and panned using 3 stepping motors are used. The algorithm of 3D position calculation and the result of experiments are explained.

  • The 'Mixing Index($D_I$)' is used as a conventional guidance measuring the degree of mixing for multiphase flows. For the case when insoluble solutions flow in a passive micromixer, a new method to calculate $D_I$ is proposed. The 'Vortex Index(${\Omega}_I$)' is suggested and formulated. We infer that ${\Omega}_I$ relates to the degree of chaotic advection. Various arbitrary shaped microchannels were tested to calculate the $D_I\;and\;{\Omega}_I$, and then a simple algebraic equation, $D_I=Aexp(B{\Omega}_I)$, is obtained. This equation may be used instead of the conventional partial differential equation, concentration equation, to estimate the degree of mixing.
