Precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) inorganic fillers for plastic offera higher replacement ratio with improved mechanical properties than any other inorganic fillers. Due to its secure economic feasibility, its fields of application areexpanding. For optimized PCC grain size and polymer replacement ratio, it is good to maintain at least $0.035{\mu}m$ grains and keep double the grain size of distance between particles, depending on the molecular weight and volume replacement rate of the polymer. PCC has unique characteristics, ie, with smaller grain size, dispersibility decreases, and if grain size is not homogenous, polymer cracking occurs. The maximum replacement ratio of PCC is approximately 30%, but in the range of 10 - 15% it produces the highest mechanical strength. When mixed with a biodegradable plastic like starch, it also improves initial environmental degradability.

This study was carried out to investigate the solubility of the bilestone in the solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions. The cholesterol and the calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$) were chosen as the ingredients of the bilestone. Three prescriptions were studied for the bilestone. The cholesterol had showed under 5% solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions, but the calcium carbonate had showed the 30-50% solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions.
Two kinds of solution for the measurement of solubilities of Sericin are prepared as followings at temperature 90 deg. C. One has the total carbonate concentration as 0, 50, 100mg CO2/l prepared with non-carbonate distilled water, sodium hydrogen carbonate and 0.1N HCI and NaOH, the other has total hardness, that is, calcium hardness or magnesium hardness as 0, 20, 50, 100mg CaCO2/l respectively prepared with non-carbonate distilled water, calcium carbonate and magnesium oxide. Solubilities of Cocoon layer Sericin at above solution gives following results ; 1. pH shows little effect on the solubility of Sericin at the non-carbonate solution but at the carbonate solution pH shows a sensitive effect on the solubility of Sericin. These means that pH controls the concentration of H2CO3, HCO3-and CO32- which prevent and promote the solution of Sericin. 2. After the cocoon layer treatment at the solution, the initial pH of 4.0, 7.0, 9.0 of the solution changed to 6.0-6.5 at the lower total carbonate solution. However in the higher total carbonate solution pH did not changed very much. This may be explained by the buffer action of carbonate. 3. The effect of the hardness on the solubility of Sericin was not found in the non-carbonate solution with the standard hardness after treatment of cocoon layer.

The phosphatic calcium compounds such as calcium hydrogen phosphate, bone ash, hydroxyapatite and
tricalcium phosphate were prepared using the high purity calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate obtained from shell
resources. Calcium hydrogen phosphate had been prepared using the high purity calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid
solution. Using the calcium hydrogen phosphate as a starting materials, bone ash have been prepared by solid state
reaction method and hydroxyapatite could be obtained by hydrothermal treatment method, respectively. The tricalcium
phosphate was prepared by the solid state reaction of a stoichiometic mixture of bone ash and high purity calcium
carbonate. In this paper, the optimal preparation process and conditions of phosphatic calcium compounds were established.

The purpose of this study is not only fixation of carbon dioxide using the cement-Paste solution's calcium ion by wet carbonating reaction but also quantitatively evaluate the possibility of storage technology of Carbon dioxide. wet carbonation is reaction of CO2 injection by CO2 reactor. As a result of experiment, the carbon dioxide is fixed, and high-purity Calcium Carbonate is eluted.
Over 40 bottom sediment samples were collected from the southern sea of Korea. The detailed textural characteristic of the sediments, percent calcium carbonate and heavy and light mineralogy were determined. Seaward of these sediments is a nearly broad belt of sandy sediments. In a broad outline it is considered to constitute a near-shore deposits left from a Pleistocene time of eustatically lowered level of sea water, because the sediments on the outer half of the continental shelf are much coarser than that nearer shore. The carbonate content increases strongly to the southeast and northwest of Cheju Island. It is believed that the high calcium carbonate content can be largely attributed to the availability of carbonate materials.

Calcium lactate was prepared by reacting lactic acid with precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) which was prepared by carbonation process (calcite) and solution process (aragonite). Effects of PCC morphology (calcite and aragonite) on calcium lactate by the solution process were investigated experimentally. Despite the slow forming rate at the initial stage, the final yield of calcium lactate appeared higher when calcite was used. Therefore, the maximum yield of calcium lactate using aragonite was 85.0% and that using calcite was 88.7%, respectively. For both cases, the optimum temperature for the preparation appeared at around $60^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the increase in lactic acid concentration over 2.0 mol% increased slurry viscosity and deteriorated mass transfer, which resulted in low yield of calcium lactate for both cases. SEM analyses showed that the prepared calcium lactate appeared as plate-like crystal form, irrespective of PCC morphologies, reaction temperatures, and concentrations of lactic acid.
Acid mine drainage occurrence is a serious environmental problem by mining industry; it usually contain high levels of metal ions, such as iron, copper, zinc, aluminum, and manganese, as well as metalloids of which arsenic is generally of greatest concern. It causes mine impacted soil pollution with mining and smelting activities, fossil fuel combustion, and waste disposal. In the present study, three bacterial strains capable of producing urease were isolated by selective enrichment of heavy metal contaminated soils from a minei-mpacted area. All isolated bacterial strains were identified Sporosarcina pasteurii with more than 98% of similarity, therefore they were named Sporosarcina sp. KM-01, KM-07, and KM-12. The heavy metals detected from the collected mine soils containing bacterial isolates as Mn ($170.50mg\;kg^{-1}$), As ($114.05mg\;kg^{-1}$), Zn ($92.07mg\;kg^{-1}$), Cu ($62.44mg\;kg^{-1}$), and Pb ($40.29mg\;kg^{-1}$). The KM-01, KM-07, and KM-12 strains were shown to be able to precipitate calcium carbonate using urea as a energy source that was amended with calcium chloride. SEM-EDS analyses showed that calcium carbonate was successfully produced and increased with time. To confirm the calcium carbonate precipitation ability, urease activity and precipitate weight were also measured and compared. These results demonstrate that all isolated bacterial strains could potentially be used in the bioremediation of acidic soil contaminated by heavy metals by mining activity.

Phase change of calcium carbontae crystals in crystallization of precipitated calcium carbonate was researched by adding additives such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA), citric acid(CIT) and pyromellitic amid(PMA). At low temperature $20^{\circ}C$, calcite crystal was made. At high temperature $80^{\circ}C$, aragonite crystal was made without additives. At middle temperature $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, Aragonite crystal also made by adding EDTA, DTPA. The crystal growth of Aragonite was retarded by the presence of CIT, PMA and the single phase of calcite was made. It was found that additives were important factors to make the single phase of calcium carbonate.

The controlled synthesis of inorganic materials with a specific size and morphology is an important factor in the development of new materials in many fields, such as nanoparticles, medicine, electronics, semiconductors, pharmaceutical sand cosmetics. Solution crystallization is one of the most widely used separation processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Calcium carbonate has attracted a great deal of attention in industry because of its numerous applications. The mean crystal size, crystal size distribution and morphology are important factors in the continuous crystallization process. In this study, the continuous crystallization of calcium carbonate by the calcium chloride process was investigated. The mean crystal size and crystal size distribution data were obtained by a particle size analyzer. The morphological imaging of the crystalswasper formed by SEM. Under steady state operation, the mean crystal size change was small, but increasing the input concentration and mixing rate increased the crystal size. In this operation, some aragonite was found, but the main crystal phase was calcite.
