  • Igneolls rocks of the Hamyang area consist of Hamyang foliated granites and hornblende diorite. Hamyang foliated granites are classified into four rock types in terms of mineral composition and texture. The four rock types are foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite, foliated porphrytic granodiorite, foliated fine biotite granodiorite and foliated leuco granite. Petrochemical data of these rocks suggest that Hamyang foliated granites is calc-alkali rock series of differentiated products of cogenetic magma by fractional crystallization. Igneous rocks of studied area correspond to I-type, peraluminous and calc alkali rock series. Rb-Sr age and $Sr^{87}/Sr^{86}$ initial ratio for foliated prophrytic granodiorite is $200{\pm}Ma$and $0.711{\pm}0.0037$, respectively. K-Ar(hornblende) age of hornblende diorite is $179{\pm}9Ma$. These data come to an coincidence with Igneous activity of South Korea which were proposed by O.J. Kim(1975), that is, they correspond to Hamyang foliated granites of products of Songrim Disturbance, and to hornblende diorite of Daebo Orogeny.

  • Kwangju granite body located in vicinity of Kwangju city consist of three rock bodies-Kwangju rock body, Jangsung rock body and Youngkwang rock body. Petrochemistry of Kwangju granite is as follows: Kwangju granite body is igneous complex which compose of a series of differential products of a magma. Kwangju granites are divided into four rock facies based on the geologic age, mineralogical and chemical constituents and texture: Triassic hornblende-biotite granodiorite and biotite granite, and Jurassic porphyritic granite and two mica granite. Harker and other variation diagrams of Kwangju granites plot on trend of calc-alkali rock series and range of peraluminous granite. Parental magma type of Kwangju granites correspond to I-type, Syn-Collision type in compressive stress field by collision movement between both rock block. In chondrite normalized REE patterns of Kwangju grnites, LREE enriched than HREE in REE amount and have more steep negative slope with slightly (-) Eu anormaly.

  • Granite gneiss, pophyroblastic gneiss and leucocratic gneiss are widely distributed in the Seungju-Suncheon area, the southwestern part of the Sobacksan Massif, Korea. These orthogneisses show intrusive relationships in outcrops of the study area. This study focuses on the geochemical properties and the tectonic environments for the original rocks of these orthogneisses. The pophyroblastic gneiss is plotted in diorite and granodiorite domain, and granite gneiss and leucocratic gneiss are plotted in both of granodiorite and granite domains on lUGS silica-alkali diagram. Geochemical properies of major elements suggest that these rocks are sub-alkali rock series, and were formed from S-type magma which generated in syn-collision tectonic environment. Discrimination diagrams using HFS elements suggest that original rocks of the three orthogneisses were granitoid of calc-alkali rock series, and were formed in syn-collision environment.

  • The Cretaceous volcanic rocks in the study area represented by andesitic rocks occupy eastern part of the Kyeongsan Caldera. The volcanic rocks comprise andesite I, andesitic tuff, andesite II, and andesitic tuff breccia in their stratigraphic succession, and andesitic porphyry. Andesite I is distinguished from andesite II in their color, texture, phenocryst mineralogy and petrochemisty. In outcrops, andesite I is compact and dark-green, and andesite II is brick red in color and porphyritic in texture. In their phenocryst mineralogy, andesite I contains olivine phenocryst in addition to plagioclase and pyroxene which occur in both of andesites. Compared to andesite II, andesite I is higher in $SiO_2$ and $K_2O$ contents and lower in CaO, MgO, MnO, $TiO_2,\;Fe_2O_3$, and $P_2O_5$. Major elements petrochemistry shows that magma series of the volcanic rocks spread widely from calc-alkaline to alkaline series. On the other hand, immobile trace elements petrochemistry shows that the magma series is calc-alkaline without exception, suggesting that the volcanics has experienced more or less alkali enrichment after their eruption. Trace element diagrams for discrimination of tectonic setting show that the volcanics of the study area might be originated from calc-alkaline continental volcanic arc.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the nature of the differentiation and petrogenesis of igneous rocks in comparison with experimental results based on petrological and geochemical criteria. Study area is composed of the Precambrian granitic gneiss complex, Triassic meladiorite and biotite granodiorite, Jurassic biotite granite, and Cretaceous quartz porphyry. According to the data of EPMA, the clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene of meladiorite come under salite and hypersthene, respectively. Such results suggests that meladiorite is incipient differentiated products of basic magma under slow cooling condition. The petrochemical data of variation diagram of major element oxides vs. silica and of trace element oxide vs. silica, AMF triangle diagram and trace elements suggests that igneous rocks of study area are plutonic rocks belong to calc alkali rock series of the source of comagma intruded-emplaced in the order of meladiorite, biotite granodiorite and biotite granite by fractional crystallization of magma.

  • This article deal with petrotectonic setting and petrogenesis from petrography and chemical analyses of the Cretaceous volcanic and intrusive rocks in the Cheolwon basin. The volcanic rocks are composed of basalts in Gungpyeong Formation, Geumhaksan Andesite, and rhyolitic rocks (Dongmakgol Tuff, Rhyolite and Jijangbong Tuff), and intrusive rocks, Bojangsan Andesite, granite porphyry and dikes. According to petrochemistry, these rocks represent medium-K to high-K basalt, andesite and rhyolite series that belong to calc-alkaline series, and generally show linear compositional variations of major and trace elements with increase in $SiO_2$ contents, on many Harker diagrams. The incompatible and rare earth elements are characterized by high enrichments than MORB, and gradually high LREE/HREE fractionation and sharp Eu negative anomaly with late strata, on spider diagram and REE pattern. Some trace elements exhibit a continental arc of various volcanic arcs or orogenic suites among destructive plate margins on tectonic discriminant diagrams. These petrochemical data suggest that the basalts may have originated from basaltic calc-alkaline magma of continental arc that produced from a partial melt of upper mantle by supplying some aqueous fluids from a oceanic crust slab under the subduction environment. The andesites and rhyolites may have been evolved from the basaltic magma with fractional crystallization with contamination of some crustal materials. Each volcanic rock may have been respectively erupted from the chamber that differentiated magmas rose sequentially into shallower levels equivalenced at their densities.

  • Honam Shear Zone is a mylonite zone approximately parallel to the NE-SW trend located southern part of Korea peninsula. Geologic ages and petrogenesis of foliated granites in this zone are as follows: Igneous rocks of this zone are composed of granite gneiss, Paleozoic granites, Songrim granites, Jurassic granites and Cretaceous granites. Foliated granites show deformed phase of Paleozoic and Songrim granites during Daebo Orogeny. And isotopic ages obtained from foliated granites are early Permian to late Triassic period (276~200 Ma). Most of foliated granite masses are igneous complex consisting of a series of differential product of cogenetic magma. The individual rock mass of foliated granites plotted on Harker diagram shows mostly similar trend of calc-alkali series. REE diagram indicates that LREE amount of foliated granites are more enriched than HREE and negative Eu anomalies of them are weaker than those of the other granites. From these data, we suggest the rocks are generated from continental margin under syntectonic environment. Original magma type of foliated granites correspond to I-type, syn-collision type and Hercyano type. In compressive stress field between Ogcheon folded belt and Youngnam massif, foliated granites had formed due to mylonitic deformation. Those facts indicate that magma of foliated granites would had been generated by melting in lower crust or contamination in upper mantle.

  • The Geodo granodiorite intruded into the Joseon Supergroup is fine-grained at the marginal part, and medium-grained and more leucocratic at the central part. The Quartz monzonite porphyry intruded inte Precambrian granite and Geodo granodiorite has abundant plagioclase phenocryst. The Imog granite intruded into the Yulri Group and the Joseon Supergroup is mediumgrained biotite granite with partly pinkish feldspar phenocryst. The K/Ar ages obtained from the biotite of the Geodo granodiorite and Imog granite are Early ($111{\pm}1{\sim}107{\pm}1$ Ma) and Late ($93{\pm}1{\sim}92{\pm}1$ Ma) Cretaceous, respectively. The K/Ar sericite age of the quartz-sericite zone of the lower Jangsan quartzite occuring in the western area gave much younger age (about 170 Ma) than that of the Jangsan quartzite, that might be reset due to the regional metamorphism of the Daebo orogeny. The granitic rocks of the area are felsic to mafic, metaluminous to peraluminous, calc-alkalic (alkali-lime index${\fallingdotseq}$ 57) and I-type (magnetite-series) based on the chemical data_ And they appear to have been fractionated at the order of Geodo granodiorite, Quartz monzonite porphyry and Imog granite. In terms of mineralogy, geochemistry and K/Ar biotite age, a rock suite of monzodiorite, quartz monzodiorite and quartz monzonite-granodiorite in the Geodo stock was fractionally differentiated from a magmatic body from its margin to inward.

  • Foliated granites between Damyang and Jinan are subdivided into Daegang foliated granite, Foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite, Sunchang foliated granodiorite, Foliated two mica granite and Samori foliated granite by mineral and texture. From EPMA data of the foliated granites following results are achieved. Composition of plagioclase are correspond to andesine, oligoclase and albite in Foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite, Sunchang foliated granodiorite and other foliated granites, respectively. And amphiboles are calcic hornblende in Foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite, and riebeckite in Daegang foliated granite. In differentiation index(D. I.) and Larsen index(L. I.), Daegang foliated granite, Foliated two mica granite and Samori foliated granite which belong to granite are 83.12-95.54 and 25.86-29.05 and Foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite and Sunchang foliated granodiorite of diorite to granodiorite are 54.99-78.54(D. I.) and 6.48-21.01(L. I.). Harker and AMF diagrams plotted from foliated granites show that the granites are product of calc alkali rock series orignated from co-magma. Characteristic foliation of foliated granites fromed by ductile deformation at deep zone of dextral strike slip fault. Foliated granites are considered as a series of differentiated product of Triassic Igneous activity of Songrim disturbance. According to REE, (La/Lu) and Eu/Sm, Foliated hornblende biotite granodiorite and Sunchang foliated granodiorite are correspond to granodiorite, and other foliated granites are monzo-and syeno-granite. Foliated granites having 0.20-0.01 of Em/Sm ratio are plutons emplaced by the tectonic setting in continents and continental margin.

  • The Jecheon granite mass has turtle-shape exposure of about $190km^2$ at vicinity of Jecheon-eup, and is elongated in the direction of NEE-SWW. It discordantly intrudes the Bakdalryong metamorphic rocks and the great limestone series(Samtaesan and Hungwolri formation) which belong to the pre-Cambrian and Ordovician, respectively. The mass is composed of five facies of different grain size; texture and charecteristic minerals. The five facies are (1) coarse grained biotite granodiorite, (2) fine grained hornblende biotite granodiorite, (3) coarse grained pink feldspar granodiorite (4) leucogranite, and (5) porphyritic biotite granite. The mutual relationship between each facies is intrusion in (1)-(2) and (2)-(3), but unknown in (3)-(4) and (4)-(5). 22 modal analyses and and 10 chemical analyses on more than a hundred of representative samples taken from the mass are listed as tables. Triangular plot of modal and normative Q-Kf-Pl of this mass show a continuous differentiation products from certain common magma by change of chemical composition and anorthite contents in plagioclase. The metamorphic facies of contact aureole in surrounding rocks adjacent to the granite body are corresponded to hornblende hornfels facies with mineral assemblages of wollastonite-diopside-calcite in calcareous rocks, and of quartz-biotite-muscovite-cordierite in argillaceous rocks. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the mass is similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma, and is equivalent to the calc-alkali rock series by Peacock. AMF diagram shows that Jecheon granite mass is equivalent to normal diffentiation products such as skaergaard intrusion. The above evidences suggest that the Jecohon granite mass is normal differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization under relatively slow cooling condition.
