Coronary Artery Calcium Data and Reporting System (CAC-DRS): A Primer

  • The Coronary Artery Calcium Data and Reporting System (CAC-DRS) is a standardized reporting method for calcium scoring on computed tomography. CAC-DRS is applied on a per-patient basis and represents the total calcium score with the number of vessels involved. There are 4 risk categories ranging from CAC-DRS 0 to CAC-DRS 3. CAC-DRS also provides risk prediction and treatment recommendations for each category. The main strengths of CAC-DRS include a detailed and meaningful representation of CAC, improved communication between physicians, risk stratification, appropriate treatment recommendations, and uniform data collection, which provides a framework for education and research. The major limitations of CAC-DRS include a few missing components, an overly simple visual approach without any standard reference, and treatment recommendations lacking a basis in clinical trials. This consistent yet straightforward method has the potential to systemize CAC scoring in both gated and non-gated scans.

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 서비스의 QoS를 제공하기 위하여 호 수락 제어(Call Admission Control : CAC) 알고리즘에 트래픽 혼잡비를 적용했을 때 평균 데이터 전송율과 평균 패킷 지연시간을 비교 평가하였다. 우선권 기반의 트래픽 혼합비가 1:1:4:4일 때 호 수락 제어 알고리즘을 적용하지 않았을 경우 FTP 서비스는 0.4일 때, 웹 서비스는 0.6일 때, 스트리밍 서비스는 0.7일 때 패킷 지연 요구사항을 만족하지 못하는 것과는 달리 제안하는 호 수락 제어 알고리즘을 적용하였을 경우 성능 평가를 수행한 모든 도착률에 대해 모든 서비스의 패킷지연을 만족함을 보였다. 또한 WWW, FTP, Video, VoIP 서비스를 대상으로 호 수락 제어 알고리즘을 적용하여 트래픽 혼합비 환경에서 서비스의 QoS를 보장할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

Molecular Characterization of Adenylyl Cyclase Complex Proteins Using Versatile Protein-Tagging Plasmid Systems in Cryptococcus neoformans

  • In this study, we aimed to generate a series of versatile tagging plasmids that can be used in diverse molecular biological studies of the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. We constructed 12 plasmids that can be used to tag a protein of interest with a GFP, mCherry, $4{\times}FLAG$, or $6{\times}HA$, along with nourseothricin-, neomycin-, or hygromycin-resistant selection markers. Using this tagging plasmid set, we explored the adenylyl cyclase complex (ACC), consisting of adenylyl cyclase (Cac1) and its associated protein Aca1, in the cAMP-signaling pathway, which is critical for the pathogenicity of C. neoformans. We found that Cac1-mCherry and Aca1-GFP were mainly colocalized as punctate forms in the cell membrane and non-nuclear cellular organelles. We also demonstrated that Cac1 and Aca1 interacted in vivo by co-immunoprecipitation, using $Cac1-6{\times}HA$ and $Aca1-4{\times}FLAG$ tagging strains. Bimolecular fluorescence complementation further confirmed the in vivo interaction of Cac1 and Aca1 in live cells. Finally, protein pull-down experiments using $aca1{\Delta}$::ACA1-GFP and $aca1{\Delta}$::ACA1-GFP $cac1{\Delta}$ strains and comparative mass spectrometry analysis identified Cac1 and a number of other novel ACC-interacting proteins. Thus, this versatile tagging plasmid system will facilitate diverse mechanistic studies in C. neoformans and further our understanding of its biology.

ATM 망에서 축약 분산 기억 장치를 사용한 호 수락 제어 (Call admission control for ATM networks using a sparse distributed memory)

  • In this paper, we propose a Neural Call Admission Control (CAC) method using a Sparse Distributed Memory(SDM). CAC is a key technology of TM network traffic control. It should be adaptable to the rapid and various changes of the ATM network environment. conventional approach to the ATM CAC requires network analysis in all cases. So, the optimal implementation is said to be very difficult. Therefore, neural approach have recently been employed. However, it does not mett the adaptability requirements. because it requires additional learning data tables and learning phase during CAC operation. We have proposed a neural network CAC method based on SDM that is more actural than conventioal approach to apply it to CAC. We compared it with previous neural network CAC method. It provides CAC with good adaptability to manage changes. Experimenatal results show that it has rapid adaptability and stability without additional learning table or learning phase.

Fully Automatic Coronary Calcium Score Software Empowered by Artificial Intelligence Technology: Validation Study Using Three CT Cohorts

  • Objective: This study aimed to validate a deep learning-based fully automatic calcium scoring (coronary artery calcium [CAC]_auto) system using previously published cardiac computed tomography (CT) cohort data with the manually segmented coronary calcium scoring (CAC_hand) system as the reference standard. Materials and Methods: We developed the CAC_auto system using 100 co-registered, non-enhanced and contrast-enhanced CT scans. For the validation of the CAC_auto system, three previously published CT cohorts (n = 2985) were chosen to represent different clinical scenarios (i.e., 2647 asymptomatic, 220 symptomatic, 118 valve disease) and four CT models. The performance of the CAC_auto system in detecting coronary calcium was determined. The reliability of the system in measuring the Agatston score as compared with CAC_hand was also evaluated per vessel and per patient using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman analysis. The agreement between CAC_auto and CAC_hand based on the cardiovascular risk stratification categories (Agatston score: 0, 1-10, 11-100, 101-400, > 400) was evaluated. Results: In 2985 patients, 6218 coronary calcium lesions were identified using CAC_hand. The per-lesion sensitivity and false-positive rate of the CAC_auto system in detecting coronary calcium were 93.3% (5800 of 6218) and 0.11 false-positive lesions per patient, respectively. The CAC_auto system, in measuring the Agatston score, yielded ICCs of 0.99 for all the vessels (left main 0.91, left anterior descending 0.99, left circumflex 0.96, right coronary 0.99). The limits of agreement between CAC_auto and CAC_hand were 1.6 ± 52.2. The linearly weighted kappa value for the Agatston score categorization was 0.94. The main causes of false-positive results were image noise (29.1%, 97/333 lesions), aortic wall calcification (25.5%, 85/333 lesions), and pericardial calcification (24.3%, 81/333 lesions). Conclusion: The atlas-based CAC_auto empowered by deep learning provided accurate calcium score measurement as compared with manual method and risk category classification, which could potentially streamline CAC imaging workflows.

키토산-아스코베이트의 용해성, 항산화성 및 항균성 (Solubility, Antioxidative and Antimicrobial Activity of Chitosan-Ascorbate)

  • 동결건조한 chitosan-ascorbate(CAs)와 chitosan-acetate(CAc)의 용해성, 항균성, 항산화성을 비교하였다. 용해성을 조사한 결과 CAs는 증류수, 식초, 녹차, 소주, 맥주, 적포도주에 0.5%이상의 농도로 용해되었으나 간장, 두유, 우유, 오렌지주스, 커피, 참기름, 대두유에는 녹지 않았다. CAc도 CAs의 경우와 비슷하나 맥주에서는 0.1%이하의 농도에서 용해되었으며 적포도주에서는 커드를 형성하였다. CAc의 전자공여능, 항산화능 및 SOD활성은 CAc에서는 각각 0, 40.0 및 10.0%였으나 CAs의 경우는 48.2, 90.6 및 67.5%로 CAc보다 높은 활성을 나타내었다. B. circulans, B. brevis, B. licheniformis, B. arabitane, B. sterothermophillus에 대한 CAs와 CAc의 최소저해농도(MIC)는 다같이 $200\;{\mu}g/disc$이었으며, E. coli O157, Listeria monocytogenous, B. cereus, B. subtilis에 대한 MIC는 다같이 $400\;{\mu}g/disc$으로 뚜렷한 차이를 보이지 않았다. CAs와 CAc의 Hunter's L*값은 $81.95{\sim}82.97$로 뚜렷한 차이가 없었으나 Hunter's a* 및 b*값은 CAs가 높았다. 관능검사 결과, CAs는 CAc에 비하여 신맛과 쓴맛은 낮았으나 떫은맛은 뚜렷한 차이가 없었다. 결론적으로 CAs는 CAc에 비하여 항균성, 항산화성 및 기호도 측면에서 우수하여 식품에의 활용이 기대된다.

A Dynamical Hybrid CAC Scheme and Its Performance Analysis for Mobile Cellular Network with Multi-Service

  • Call admission control (CAC) plays an important role in mobile cellular network to guarantee the quality of service (QoS). In this paper, a dynamic hybrid CAC scheme with integrated cutoff priority and handoff queue for mobile cellular network is proposed and some performance metrics are derived. The unique characteristic of the proposed CAC scheme is that it can support any number of service types and that the cutoff thresholds for handoff calls are dynamically adjusted according to the number of service types and service priority index. Moreover, timeouts of handoff calls in queues are also considered in our scheme. By modeling the proposed CAC scheme with a one-dimensional Markov chain (1DMC), some performance metrics are derived, which include new call blocking probability ($P_{nb}$), forced termination probability (PF), average queue length, average waiting time in queue, offered traffic utilization, wireless channel utilization and system performance which is defined as the ratio of channel utilization to Grade of Service (GoS) cost function. In order to validate the correctness of the derived analytical performance metrics, simulation is performed. It is shown that simulation results match closely with the derived analytic results in terms of $P_{nb}$ and PF. And then, to show the advantage of 1DMC modeling for the performance analysis of our proposed CAC scheme, the computing complexity of multi-dimensional Markov chain (MDMC) modeling in performance analysis is analyzed in detail. It is indicated that state-space cardinality, which reflects the computing complexity of MDMC, increases exponentially with the number of service types and total channels in a cell. However, the state-space cardinality of our 1DMC model for performance analysis is unrelated to the number of service types and is determined by total number of channels and queue capacity of the highest priority service in a cell. At last, the performance comparison between our CAC scheme and Mahmoud ASH's scheme is carried out. The results show that our CAC scheme performs well to some extend.

탈리그닌한 자기가수분해 시료로부터 준비한 카복시메틸화 시료의 특성 (Characteristics of Carbozymethylated Substrates from Delignified Autohydrolyzed Substrates)

  • 본 연구는 자기가수분해전 처리를 통하여 제조한 반응성이 높은 셀룰로오스(high reactive cellulose, HRC)기질의 카르복시메틸화(carboxymethylation, CM화) 특성을 알기 위하여 수행되었으며, 비교를 위하여 시판 알파셀룰로오스(commercial α-cellulose, CAC) 및 침엽수 리파이나기계펄프(Refiner mechanical pulp, RMP) 2종의 시료를 사용하였다. HRC는 12시간 당화처리로 70%, 24시간 처리로 90%, 72시간 처리로 99.5%의 높은 당화율을 나타냈다. 아울러 Cellulase 효소활성에 있어서 처리 전후에 측정된 CMCase 및 Avicelase의 효소활성의 큰 변화가 없었다. 이에 대하여 72시간 처리로 CAC는 57%의 당화율을, 리그닌을 많이 포함하는 RMP는 38%의 매우 낮은 당화율을 보였다. CM화시 리그닌함량이 낮은 HRC 및 CAC시료의 CM화가 용이하였고, 1.13-1.15의 높은 치환도를, 리그닌함량이 많은 RMP는 0.85 정도의 낮은 치환도를 나타냈다. 모든 시료에서 알칼리의 농도는 30%, 3시간 처리가 가장 높은 치환도를 보여주었다. CM화물로부터의 수용성부분은 HRC 및 CAC에서 98-98.5%, RMP 로부터는 31.5%로 매우 낮았다. 비표면적이 낮은 RMP는 보수도가 매우 낮았으며, 비표면적이 높았던 CAC 및 HRC는 435% 및 321%의 매우 높은 보수도 값을 나타냈다. 팽윤도에 있어서는 비표면적과는 무관하게 HRC, RMP 그리고 CAC 순으로 팽윤율이 커졌다.

석고 종류 및 혼입률에 따른 CAC 반응 특성 (Reaction Characteristics of the CAC with Various Gypsum Type and Mixing Ratio)

  • 조강 생산 시 발생되는 슬래그는 대부분 서냉 방식에 의해 처리되고 있다. 하지만 슬래그 중 일부는 속경성 광물을 포함하고 있음에도 불구하고, 서냉 방식에 의해 그 반응성을 상실하게 된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 제강환원슬래그를 SAT공법에 의하여 공기 급냉하여 선별 및 분급 후 분쇄한 CAC의 활용성 확대를 목적으로 석고 종류 및 혼입율에 따른 CAC의 특성에 관하여 고찰하였다. 그 결과, CAC는 3시간에서는 석고 용해도, 1일 이후에는 석고 함량비에 따라 특성이 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 반수, 무수석고의 적정 혼입율은 30% 이내, 이수석고는 35% 이상인 것을 확인하였으며, 이수석고의 혼입율 및 특성 확인을 통하여 부산이수석고의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다.

Relation of Pulmonary Function Impairment and Coronary Artery Calcification by Multi-detector Computed Tomography in Group Exposed to Inorganic Dusts

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship of pulmonary function impairment (PFI) and coronary artery calcification (CAC) by multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT), and the effect of pneumoconiosis on CAC or PFI. Methods: Seventy-six subjects exposed to inorganic dusts underwent coronary artery calcium scoring by MDCT, spirometry, laboratory tests, and a standardized questionnaire. CAC was quantified using a commercial software (Rapidia ver. 2.8), and all the subjects were divided into two categories according to total calcium scores (TCSs), either the non-calcified (<1) or the calcified (${\geq}1$) group. Obstructive pulmonary function impairment (OPFI) was defined as forced expiratory volume in one second/forced vital capacity ($FEV_1$/FVC, %)<70, and as $FEV_1$/FVC (%){\geq}70 and FVC<80 for restrictive pulmonary function impairment (RPFI) by spirometry. All subjects were classified as either the case (profusion${\geq}1/0$) or the control (profusion${\leq}0/1$) group by pneumoconiosis findings on simple digital radiograph. Results: Of the 76 subjects, 35 subjects (46.1%) had a CAC. Age and hypertension were different significantly between the non-calcified and the calcified group (p<0.05). Subjects with pneumoconiosis were more frequent in the calcified group than those in the non-calcified group (p=0.099). $FEV_1$/FVC (%) was significantly correlated with TCSs (r=-0.316, p=0.005). Subjects with OPFI tended to increase significantly with increasing of TCS (4.82, p=0.028), but not significantly in RPFI (2.18, p=0.140). Subjects with OPFI were significantly increased in the case group compared to those in the control group. Conclusion: CAC is significantly correlated with OPFI, and CAC and OPFI may be affected by pneumoconiosis findings.
