A submarine power cable is a transmission cable for carrying electric power below the surface of the water. Recently, submarine cables transfer power from offshore renewable energy schemes to shore, e.g. wind, wave and tidal systems, and these cables are either buried in the seabed or lie on the ocean floor, depending on their location. Since these power cables are used in the extreme environments, they are made to withstand in harsh conditions and temperatures, and strong currents. However, undersea conditions are severe enough to cause all sorts of damage to offshore cables, these conditions result in cable faults that disrupt power transmission. In this paper, we explore the design criteria for such cables and the procedures and challenges of installation, and cable transfer splicing system. The specification of submarine cable designed with 3 circuits of 154kV which is composed of the existing single circuit and new double circuits, and power capacity of 100MVA per cable line. The determination of new submarine cable burial depth and cable arrangement method with both existing and new cables are studied. We have calculated the permission values of cable power capacity for underground route, the values show the over 100MW per cable line.
Many unbalanced factors of underground transmission power cable, such as burying types and the length difference of the cable between each minor section, etc will cause the impedance unbalance and excessive circulating current between cables. So this paper presents the analysis of sheath circulating current in accordance with the distance between the center conductors and phase arrangement. ground resistance value changes on 154kV transmission system. Based on these simulation results, this paper will contribute to the reduction method of sheath circulation current.

The use of underground transmission tables has continuously increased in densely inhabited urban and suburban area. Due to a increasing demand of underground cables, two or more circuits are installed in parallel for several kilometers. It, however, has not been realized that the sheath circulating current is generated in the system where a large number of cables are laid in the same route. In this paper, Author studied diversely the sheath circulating current on underground cables depending on the various length rate, the phase arrangement, and the grounding resistance of the sheath in the cross-bonded section. It was clear that very large circulating current is generated in cable systems due to unbalanced length rate and phase arrangement in the cross-bonded section.

This paper describes magnetic field on power cable in underground transmission systems. Based on specification which is being used in domestic power utility, magnetic field was analyzed in accordance with line arrangement, line burial depth and phase spacing. Magnetic field magnitude and its trend were understood in each circuit type such as double circuits, triple circuits and quadruple circuits of underground transmission systems. In addition, magnetic field was analyzed according to phase arrangement changing in each circuit. Finally, the proper phase arrangement configuration type was suggested by the evaluation of analysis result. Magnetic field was calculated by using Biot-Savart's law. According to the evaluated magnetic fields based on phase layout configuration in each circuit, it figured out that each of magnetic fields was different. As a result, this paper proposes a proper phase layout configuration for generating minimum magnetic field. It is evaluated that the phase layout configuration in each circuit proposed in this paper can be used at actual underground transmission systems.

This paper presents an investigation on the ultimate behavior of steel cable-stayed bridges using nonlinear finite element analysis method. Cable-stayed bridges exhibit various geometric nonlinearities as well as material nonlinearities, so rational nonlinear finite element analysis should be performed for investigation of the ultimate behavior. In this study, ultimate behavior of steel cable-stayed bridges was studied using rational ultimate analysis method. Nonlinear equivalent truss element and nonlinear frame element were used for modeling the cable, girder and mast. Moreover, refined plastic hinge method was adopted for considering the material nonlinearity of steel members. In this study, the 2-step analysis method was used. Before live load analysis, initial shape analysis was performed in order to consider the dead load condition. For investigation of the ultimate behavior of steel cable-stayed bridges, analysis models which span length is 920.0 m were used. Radiating type and fan type were considered as the cable-arrangement types. With various quantitative evidences such as load-displacement curves, deformed shapes, locations of the yield point or region, bending moment distribution and so on, the ultimate behavior of steel cable-stayed bridges was investigated and described in this paper.

Time domain reflectometry (TDR) is a diagnostic technique to evaluate the physical integrity of cable and finds application in leak detection and localization of piping system. In this study, a cable-shaped leak detection sensor was proposed using the TDR technique for monitoring leakage detection of ship's engine room seawater piping system. The cable sensor was developed using a twisted pair arrangement and wound by an absorbent material. The availability and performance of the sensor for leak detection and localization were evaluated on a lab-scale pipeline set up. The developed sensor was installed onto the pipes and flanges of the lab-scale set up and various TDR waveforms were acquired and analyzed according to the dif erent variables including the number of twists and sheath thickness. The result indicated that the twisted cable sensor was able to produce clear and smooth signal as compared to the TDR sensor with a parallel arrangement. The optimal number of twist was determined to be above 10 per the unit length. The optimal diameter of sheath thickness that results in the desired sensitivity was determined to be ranging from 80% up to 120% of the diameter of the conductor. The linear regression analysis for estimation of leak localization was carried out to estimate the location of the leakage, and the result was a determination coefficient of 0.9998, indicating a positive relationship with the actual leakage point. The proposed TDR based leak detection method appears to be an effective method for monitoring leakage of ship's seawater piping system.

This study proposes the optimal ratio of vertical load-carrying capacity (${\beta}$) by investigating structural performances and economic efficiency in the extradosed bridges. Without design standards for the extradosed bridge, Japanese design standards have been used domestically. For the design live load, DL24 is found to be more adequate than DB24. Using the DL24 load, parameter studies are carried out. The parameters are 'main tower height', 'main girder stiffness', and 'cable arrangement'. As a result, it is found that one side cable-stayed extradosed bridges are more economical than double side cable-stayed extradosed bridges. This study also shows that when the ratio of vertical load-carrying capacity(${\beta}$) is 30~50% in the extradosed bridge with the ratio of tower height to main span length 1/6, the extradosed bridge is most economical because of the cable stress less than the allowable stress.

AC loss is one of the main research area in AC power application using high temperature superconductor(HTS), such as HTS transformer, HTS current limiter and HTS cable, because it is closely related to efficiency, economic estimation and design of power device. A lot of research for various arrangements of HTS tapes have been performed to increase a capacity of transport current because single HTS tape can not satisfy the demanded current capacity in HTS power application. In this paper, we studied magnetization loss by different several arrangements of BSCCO tapes such as Edge-to-Edge type, Face-to-Face type and Matrix type through numerical analysis by 2D-FEM and measurement. As a result, we got the result that the magnetization loss of Face-to-Face type arrangements was lower than those of other arrangement types under the conditions of the same stacking number. We think that the result was due to shield effect by demagnetization of adjacent HTS tapes which are located face to face.
The main purpose of this paper is to study on the transient current due to the change of environmental temperature under no external field in the arrangement of M$_{1}$(metal)-P(polyver)-M$_{2}$(metal). The specimer of polymeric insulator sandwiched by two metal electrodes composes a parallel-plate condenser represented by Maxwell-model. The behaviors of short circuit current flowing in M-P-M arrangement are very complex and the analysis of its conduction mechanism appears to be much complicated. In this paper we can suggest that a contact potential difference as an energetic state exists in the thin film specimen both sides of which are contacted by two different metals having different cook functions. Futhermore the contact potential difference appears to be constant through the course of temperature change, however, the dielectric constant and caparitance of the specimen must be temperature dependent. Accordingly the charge difference induced on both sides of electrodes may be a cause for the shory circuited transient current flowing through the external circuit. It is also suggestive that the results of the observation must be considered in cases of insulation design of electrical machines and D.C. cable for high voltage use.
