고출력 CW Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 인코넬 718 판재 절단시 모서리부 절단 특성 분석 (Investigation of Cutting Characteristics in the Sharp Comer for the Case of Cutting of Inconel 718 Super-alloy Sheet Using High-power CW Nd:YAG Laser)

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of the laser power, the material thickness, comer angles, and the loop size on the formation of the comer in the cutting of Inconel 718 super-alloy sheet using high-power CW Nd: YAG laser. In order to investigate the influence of comer angles and loop sizes on the melted area and the formation of comer in the sharp comer, angular cutting tests and loop cutting tests were carried out. The results of the angular cutting tests were shown that the melted area is minimized and the melting mode is changed from nose melting in the thickness direction to the secondary melting induced by the attached dross when the comer angle is $90^{\circ}$. Through the results of loop cutting tests, the variation of the melted area and the comer shape in the sharp comer according to the loop size were examined. In addition, it was shown that a proper loop size is approximately 3 mm. The results of above experiments will be reflected on the knowledge base to generate optimal cutting path of the laser.

  • Laser cutting technology is one of flexible rapid manufacturing technologies with various advantageous including a high cutting speed, manufacturing of parts with a complex shape and others. The quality of the cut part and the optimum cutting conditions are highly dependent on the combination of the process parameters. The objective of this research works is to investigate the influence of process parameters, such as power of laser, cutting speed of laser and material thickness, on the surface roughness and the striation formation of the cut section for the case of cutting of CSP 1N sheet using high power Nd:YAG Laser with a continuous wave (CW). In order to find the relationship between process parameters and the surface roughness and the striation formation of the cut section, several experiments are carried out. Through the investigation of the empirical results, it has been shown that the surface roughness is highly related to the striation formation, including the frequency and angle of the striation, of the cut section. From the results of experiments, an optimum cutting speed for each cutting condition has been obtained to improve both the quality of the cut surface and the cutting efficiency.

  • The welding characteristics of Inconel 600 Alloy using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were the positions of focus, laser power and travel speed of laser bean We measured the fusion zone size and its shape using an optical microscope for the observation of cross-sectional area. We performed two tests regarding the tension and the micro hardness for welding quality estimation. Then we measured residual stress in welds by electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPI). In conclusion the optimum butt welding process parameters were 0.5mm focus position, 1.6kW laser power, 1m/min travel speed and 5.5$\ell$/min assist gas discharge.

  • In this study high power Nd:YAG laser welding of structural steel was investigated. For the test steel blocks of $50{\times}50{\times}200mm$ were cut and machined, and bead-on-plate weld was made on the machined surface. Argon, nitrogen, helium, dry air or mixed gases were used to find the effect of shielding conditions on the bead formation. Results demonstrated that there were Fe I rich region and Fe II rich region in the laser induced plasma column based on the spectral analysis with S-2000 field spectrometer The Fe I region was located at the root of the column near keyhole opening. On the other hand, Fe II region was found at the middle of the plasma column. In the Nd:YAG laser welding, Fe I region emitted continuum which had peak value at wave length of around 710nm, and Fe II region had the peak at 580nm. In the welding of steel by $CO_2$ laser, however, no continuum was observed. There showed two groups of strong spikes in the $CO_2$ laser welding; the first group was displayed at the wave band of 450-560nm. This spike group emitted stronger intensity of light and sharper peaks than those group at 680-800nm.

  • For many years and primarily for economical reasons, Dissimilar Metal Welds have been used as transition joints in a variety of equipment and applications. But Dissimilar Metal Welds have several fabrication and metallurgical drawbacks that can often lead to in-service failures. For example, the most pronounced fabrication faults are hot cracks. Laser welding techniques have been characterised for various materials. In this paper, the laser weldability of STS304 stainless steel and SM45C at dissimilar metal welds using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. An experimental study was conducted to determine effects of welding parameters, on eliminating or reducing the extent welding zone formation at dissimilar metal welds and to optimize those parameters that have the most influence parameters such as focus length, power, beam speed, shielding gas, and wave length of laser were tested

  • Laser surface hardening technologies have been used to improve characteristics of wear and to enhance the fatigue resistance for mold parts. The objective of this research work is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as power of laser and defocused spot position, on the characteristics of laser surface hardening for the case of SKD61 steel. CW Nd:YAG laser is selected as the heat source. The optical lens with the elliptical profile is designed to obtain a wide surface hardening area with a uniform hardness. From the results of the experiments, it has been shown that the maximum hardness is approximatly 740 Hv when the power, focal position and the travel of laser are 1,095 W, +1mm and 0.3 m/min, respectively. In addition, the hardening width using the elliptical lens was three time larger than that using the defocusing of laser beam.

  • Dissimilar-metal welds(DHWs) are used widely in various industrial applications due to the pratical importance from the technical and economic aspect. However, DMWs have several fabricative and metallurgical drawbacks that can often lead to in-service failures. For example, the most pronounced fabrication faults are hot cracks. Recently, DMWs have used the various of heat source to decrease such as faults. In this paper, the weldability on dissimilar metal welds of Austenite stainless steel and Low carbon steel using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser was experimentally investigated.   • The objective of present research works is to investigate the effects of process parameters, including the power of laser, cutting speed, material thickness, and the edge angle, on the melted area in the sharp edge of the cut material fur the case of cutting of a low carbon steel sheet using high-power CW Nd:YAG laser. In order to investigate the influence of edge angle and size of loop on the melted area in the sharp edge, angular cutting tests and loop cutting tests have been carried out. From the results of angular cutting tests, the relationship between the edge angle and the melted area has been obtained. The results of the experiments have been shown that the melted area is rapidly reduced from $120^{\circ}$ of the edge angle and the melted area is nearly zero at $150^{\circ}$ of the edge angle. Through the results of loop cutting experiments, the relationship between the cutting angle on the melted area in the edge according to the size of loop have been obtained. In addition, it has been shown that a proper size of loop is nearly 3 mm as the corner angle is greater than $90^{\circ}$ and 5 mm as the comer angle is less than $90^{\circ}$. The results of above experiments will be reflected on the knowledge base to generate optimal cutting path of the laser.

  • Laser welding of dissimilar metals has been widely used to improve a wear resistance and a corrosion resistance of the industrial parts. The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of the process parameters, such as the welding for SM45C and STS304 with CW Nd:YAG lasers. The bead-on-plate welding tests are carried out for several combinations of the experimental conditions. In order to quantitatively examine the characteristics of the dissimilar welding, the welding quality of the cut section, stress-strain behavior and the hardness of the welded metal are investigated. From the results of the investigation, it has been shown that the optimal voiding condition without defects in the vicinity of the welded area and with a good welding quality is 1600W of the laser power, 0.85m/min of welding speed and $4{\ell}/min$ of pressure for shielding gas.
