  • In this paper, we propose an optimal implementation of lightweight block ciphers, SIMECK and SIMON counter operation mode, on a 32-bit RISC-V processor. Utilizing the characteristics of the CTR operating mode, we propose round function optimization that precomputes some values, single plaintext optimization and two plaintext parallel optimization. Since there are no previous research results on SIMECK and SIMON on RISC-V, we compared the performance of implementations with and without precomputation techniques for single plaintext optimization and two plaintext parallel optimization implementations. As a result, the implementations to which the precomputation technique was applied showed a performance improvement of 1% compared to the implementations to which precomputation was not applied.

  • In high data-rate communication systems, encryption/decryption must be processed in high speed. In this paper, we implement CCM security mode which is the basis of security. Specifically, we combine CCM with AES block encryption algorithm in hardware. With the combination, we can carry out encryption/decryption as well as data transmission/reception simultaneously without reducing data-rate, and we keep low-power consumption with high speed by optimizing CCM block.

  • PIPO lightweight block ciphers were announced in ICISC'20. In this paper, a single-block optimization implementation and parallel optimization implementation of PIPO lightweight block cipher ECB, CBC, and CTR operation modes are performed on a 32-bit RISC-V processor. A single block implementation proposes an efficient 8-bit unit of Rlayer function implementation on a 32-bit register. In a parallel implementation, internal alignment of registers for parallel implementation is performed, and a method for four different blocks to perform Rlayer function operations on one register is described. In addition, since it is difficult to apply the parallel implementation technique to the encryption process in the parallel implementation of the CBC operation mode, it is proposed to apply the parallel implementation technique in the decryption process. In parallel implementation of the CTR operation mode, an extended initialization vector is used to propose a register internal alignment omission technique. This paper shows that the parallel implementation technique is applicable to several block cipher operation modes. As a result, it is confirmed that the performance improvement is 1.7 times in a single-block implementation and 1.89 times in a parallel implementation compared to the performance of the existing research implementation that includes the key schedule process in the ECB operation mode.

  • Telemetry system is a communication system that measures and transmits various signals in the aircraft to the ground for collecting and monitoring flight data during the development of unmanned air vehicle and satellite launch vehicles. With the recent development of wireless communication technology, it is becoming important to apply encryption of telemetry system to prepare with security threats that may occur during flight data transmission. In this paper, we suggested and implemented the application method of ARIA-256, Korean standard encryption algorithm, to apply encryption to telemetry system. In consideration of the block error propagation and the telemetry frame characteristics, frame is encrypted using the CTR mode and can apply the Reed-solomon codes recommended by CCSDS. ARIA algorithm and cipher frame are implemented in FPGA, and simulation and hardware verification system confirmed continuous frames encryption.

  • In this paper, we presented our implementation of a counter mode AES based on Virtex4 FPGA. Our design exploits three advanced features: composite field arithmetic SubByte, efficient MixColumn transformation, and On-the-Fly Key-Scheduling for fully pipelined architecture. By pipelining the composite field implementation of the S-box, the area cost is reduced to average 17 percent. By designing the On-the-Fly key scheduling, we implemented an efficient key-expander module which is specialized for a pipelined architecture.

  • A small-area and high-speed authentication/security processor (WUSB_Sec) IP is designed, which performs the 4-way handshake protocol for authentication between host and device, and data encryption/decryption of wireless USB system. The PRF-256 and PRF-64 are implemented by CCM (Counter mode with CBC-MAC) operation, and the CCM is designed with two AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption coles working concurrently for parallel processing of CBC mode and CTR mode operations. The AES core that is an essential block of the WUSB_Sec processor is designed by applying composite field arithmetic on AF$(((2^2)^2)^2)$. Also, S-Box sharing between SubByte block and key scheduler block reduces the gate count by 10%. The designed WUSB_Sec processor has 25,000 gates and the estimated throughput rate is about 480Mbps at 120MHz clock frequency.

  • The Block cipher CHAM is lightweight block cipher for low-end processors, developed by National Security Research Institute from Korea. The mode of operation is necessity for efficient operation of block cipher, among them, the counter (CTR) mode has good efficiency because it is easy to implement and supporting parallel operation. In this paper, we propose the optimized implementation for block cipher CHAM-CTR. The proposed implementation can be skipped some rounds by pre-computation. Thus it has better calculating speed than existing CHAM. Also, this implementation pre-load some of round keys to registers, before entering round functions. It makes reduced 160cycles loading time for round key load. Finally, proposed implementation achieved higher performance about 6.8%, and 4.5% for fixed-key scenario, and variable-key scenario, respectively.

  • PSPICE modeling of a commercial LED driver IC (TOP245P) and PC817A optocoupler is proposed for the switch-mode power supply (SMPS) (applicable to LED driver) design and simulation. An analog behavioral model of the TOP245P IC including the shunt regulator, under-voltage(UV) detection, over-voltage(OV) shut-down and SR flip-flop is developed by using PSPICE. The empirical equation of PC817A current transfer ratio (CTR) is fitted from the datasheet of PC817A. Two types of SMPSs are simulated with the averaged-model and switching-model. The simulation results by the proposed PSPICE models are in good agreement with those in the data sheet and an experimental data.
