Purpose $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA renal scintigraphy serves as a key indicator to measure a kidney donor's Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) and determine the possibility of kidney transplant. The Gates method utilized to measure GFR considers 3 variables of renal depth, injection dose, and net kidney counts. In this research, we seek to compare changes in kidney donors' GFR according to renal depth measurement methods of the 3 variables. Materials and Methods We investigated 32 kidney donors who had visited the hospital from October, 2013 to March, 2014 and received abdominal CT and $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA GFR examination. With the cross-section image of the CT and the lateral image from a gamma camera, we measured the renal depth and compared with renal depth calculation equations-Tonnesen, Taylor, and Itoh methods. Renal depth-specific GFR was calculated by using Xeleris Ver. 2.1220 of GE. Then the results were compared with MDRD (Modification of Diet Renal Disease) GFRs based on serum creatinine level. Results The renal depths measured based on the CT and gamma camera images showed high correlation. Tonessen equation gave the lowest GFR value while the value calculated by using the renal depth of CT image was the highest with a 16.62% gap. MDRD GFR showed no statistically significant difference among values calculated through Taylor, Itoh, CT and gamma camera renal depth application (P>0.05), but exhibited a statistically significant change in the value based on Tonnesen equation (P<0.05). Conclusion This research has found that, in GFR evaluation in kidney donors by utilizing $^{99m}Tc$-DTPA, Tonnesen equation-based Gates method underestimated the value than the MDRD GFR. Therefore, if a MDRD GFR value shows a huge difference from the actual examination value, using an image-based renal depth measurement, instead of Tonnesen equation applied to Gates method, is expected to give an accurate GFR value to kidney donors.

Purpose To investigate the incidence of tuberculosis (TB) in healthcare workers (HCWs) with positive interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) results based on chest X-ray (CXR) and CT findings and determine the role of imaging in the diagnosis of TB. Materials and Methods Among 1976 hospital personnel screened for TB using IGRA, IGRApositive subjects were retrospectively investigated. Clustered nodular and/or linear streaky opacities in the upper lung zone were considered positive on CXR. The CT findings were classified as active, indeterminate, inactive, or normal. The active or indeterminate class was considered CT-positive. Results IGRA was positive in 255 subjects (12.9%). CXR and CT were performed in 249 (99.2%) and 113 subjects (45.0%), respectively. CXR- and CT-positive findings were found in 7 of 249 (2.8%) and 9 of 113 (8.0%) patients, respectively. Among the nine CT-positive subjects, active and indeterminate TB findings were found in 6 (5.3%) and 3 (2.7%) patients, respectively. Microbiological tests, including acid-fast bacilli staining, culture, and polymerase chain reaction for TB, were negative in all nine CT-positive subjects. Empirical anti-TB medications were administered to 9 CT-positive subjects, and 3 of these nine subjects were CXR-negative for pulmonary TB.
We evaluated the usefulness of $^{99m}Tc$-HMPAO SPECT in 21 Patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured intracranial aneurysm and in 3 patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm. SPECT study could detect the bilaterally hypoperfused cases in 10 patients (48%), but CT/MRI showed the bilateral abnormalities in only 3 patients (14%). The number of abnormal lesions were 56 in SPECT and 25 in CT/MRI. The lesions found in SPECT were well correlated with the neurological signs of the patients such as aphasia or hemiplegia. SPECT study during Matas test was helpful in evaluating the risk for carotid artery occlusion therapy. We thought that $^{99m}Tc$-HMPAO brain SPECT is helpful in evaluating the functional changes in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
The present study was carried out to investigate the combined effect of radiation and photoperiod (PP) regimes on Tradescantia 4430 somatic cell mutations. Potted plants were irradiated with 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0 Gy of gamma radiation from 60Co source. The plants irradiated only with gamma radiation were used as control group (CT). The somatic cell mutation rate in 0.5 Gy irradiated CT and PP20 group started to increase on the 6th day and reached a maximum value on the l0th day and 9th day after irradiation while the rate in the experimental group under 4 hours of photoperiod a day (PP4) started to increase on the l0th day and reached a maximal value on the 16th day post-irradiation. The slope of dose-response curve in CT was 5.99 ($r^2$=0.99), while it was 6.93 ($r^2$=0.98) in PP20 and 11.74 ($r^2$=0.99) in PP4, respectively. The biological efficacy of radiation in the induction of pink mutation increased by 15.7% in PP20 and 95.9 % in PP4, respectively. It is suggested that photoperiod regimes unfavorable to the plant have an additive effect on radiation-induced mutations and a delaying or inhibiting effect on cell damage repair, as well.
Purpose To investigate the added value of right down decubitus (RDD) CT when determining adjacent organ invasion in cases of advanced gastric cancer (AGC). Materials and Methods A total of 728 patients with pathologically confirmed T4a (pT4a), surgically confirmed T4b (sT4b), or pathologically confirmed T4b (pT4b) AGCs who underwent dedicated stomach-protocol CT, including imaging of the left posterior oblique (LPO) and RDD positions, were included in this study. Two radiologists scored the T stage of AGCs using a 5-point scale on LPO CT with and without RDD CT at 2-week intervals and recorded the presence of "sliding sign" in the tumors and adjacent organs and compared its incidence of appearance. Results A total of 564 patients (77.4%) were diagnosed with pT4a, whereas 65 (8.9%) and 99 (13.6%) patients were diagnosed with pT4b and sT4b, respectively. When RDD CT was performed additionally, both reviewers deemed that the area under the curve (AUC) for differentiating T4b from T4a increased (p < 0.001). According to both reviewers, the AUC for differentiating T4b with pancreatic invasion from T4a increased in the subgroup analysis (p < 0.050). Interobserver agreement improved from fair to moderate (weighted kappa value, 0.296-0.444). Conclusion RDD CT provides additional value compared to LPO CT images alone for determining adjacent organ invasion in patients with AGC due to their increased AUC values and improved interobserver agreement.

The height of the table should be considered important during computed tomography (CT) examination, but according to previous studies, not all radiology technologists set the table at the patient's center at the examination, which affects the exposure dose and image quality received by the patient. Therefore, this study intends to study the image quality exposure dose according to the height of the table to realize the optimal image quality and dose during the brain CT scan. The head phantom images were acquired using Philips Brilliance iCT 256. When the image was acquired, the table height was adjusted to 815, 865, 915, 965, 1015, and 1030 mm, respectively, and each scan was performed 3 times for each height. For the exposure dose measurement, optically stimulated luminescence dosimeter (OSLD) was attached to the front, side, eye, and thyroid gland of the head phantom. In the signal to noise ratio (SNR) measurement result, The SNR values for each table height were all lower than 915 mm. As a result of exposure dose, the exposure dose on each area increased as the table height decreased. The height of the table has a close relationship with the patient's radiation exposure dose in the CT scan.

Objective: The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the potential of early-phase single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) using technetium-99m methyl diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) for diagnosing osteomyelitis (OM). Materials and Methods: Twenty-one patients with suspected OM were enrolled retrospectively. Three-phase bone scan (TPBS), early-phase SPECT/CT (immediately after blood pool planar imaging), and delayed-phase SPECT/CT (immediately after delayed planar imaging) were performed. The final diagnoses were established through surgery or clinical follow-up for over 6 months. We compared three diagnostic criteria based on (I) TPBS alone, (II) combined TPBS and delayed-phase SPECT/CT, and (III) early-phase SPECT/CT alone. Results: OM was diagnosed in 11 of 21 patients (nine surgically and two clinically). Of the 11 OM patients, criterion-I, criterion-II, and criterion-III were positive in six, seven, and 10 patients, respectively. Of the 10 non-OM patients, criterion-I, criterion-II, and criterion-III were negative in five, five, and seven patients, respectively. The sensitivity/specificity/accuracy of criterion-I, criterion-II, and criterion-III for diagnosing OM were 54.5%/50.0%/55.0%, 63.6%/50.0%/57.1%, and 90.9%/70.0%/87.5%, respectively. Conclusion: This pilot study demonstrated the potential of using the early-phase SPECT/CT to diagnose OM. Based on the results, prospective studies with a larger sample size should be conducted to confirm the efficacy of early-phase SPECT/CT.
Bone scintigraphy using $^{99m}$Tc-labeled phosphate agents has long been the standard evaluation method for whole skeletal system. However, recent shortage of $^{99m}$Tc supply and advanced positron emission tomography (PET) technology evoked the attention to surrogate radiopharmaceuticals and imaging modalities for bone. Actually, fluorine-18 ($^{18}$F) was the first bone seeking radiotracer before the introduction of $^{99m}$Tc-labeled agents even though its clinical application failed to become pervasive anymore after the rapid spread of Anger type gamma camera systems in early 1970s. However, rapidly developed PET technology made us refocus on the usefulness of $^{18}$F as a PET tracer. Early study comparing $^{18}$F-Na PET scan and planar bone scintigraphy reported that PET has higher sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of metastatic bone lesions than planar bone scan. Subsequent reports comparing between PET and both planar and SPECT bone image also revealed better results of PET scan in similar study groups. Rapid clinical application of PET/CT also accumulated considerable amount of experiences in skeletal evaluation and this modality is known to have better diagnostic power than stand alone PET system as well as bone scan. Furthermore $^{18}$F-Na PET/CT revealed better or at least equal results in detection of primary and metastatic bone lesions compared with CT and MRI. Therefore, it is obvious that $^{18}$F-Na PET/CT has potential to become new imaging modality for practical skeletal evaluation so continuous and careful evaluation of this modality and radiopharmaceutical must be required.

Recently in nuclear medicine, to improve diagnostic value, SUV, semi-quantitative indicator used in PET-CT, is adopted in SPECT-CT. Therefore, this research analyzed correlation of $SUV_{max}$ of two scanners through phantom test, and evaluated possibility of clinical application. Radiopharmaceuticals ($^{18}F$, $^{99m}Tc$) were injected with the ratios of 8:1 and 4:1, considering background radioactivity, into the phantom manufactured with 6 globes of different sizes, and, based on clinical protocol, positive phases were acquired with PET-CT and SPECT-CT scanners, and interesting areas were divided into ROI and VOI, and $SUV_{max}$ of them were measured, and analyzed. Tests found out no statistically significant difference in $SUV_{max}$ measured with two scanners (P>0.05). Thus, $SUV_{max}$ of PET-CT and SPECT-CT had a certain correlation within significant levels, and were evaluated as the same. Accordingly, it seems that $SUV_{max}$ quantitative analysis using SPECT-CT can provide significant diagnostic information as the case of PET-CT.
Objective: Pullulan derivatives (PD) can be used to make self-assembled hydrogel nanoparticles which are responsive to ionic strength. The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential of PD as a retaining carrier of radioisotope inside tumors. Materials and Methods: Four types of PD were evaluated which included pullulan acetate (PA), succinylated PA (SPA), PA-DTPA and SPA-DTPA conjugates. They were radiolabeled with Tc-99m. Labelling efficiencies were determined at 30 min, 1, 2, 4 and 12 hours after radiolabeling. CT-25 colon cancer cells were subcutaneously injected into Balb/c mice. After 2 weeks of subcutaneous injection, Tc-99m-labelled PD (Tc-99m-PD) were injected into the tumors. Whole body images of mice were obtained at 30 min, 1, 2, and 12 hr after intratumoral injection. All twenty mice were grouped into four groups by largest diameter; control A (largest diameter = 5 mm, n = 5), control B (largest diameter = 10 mm, n = 5), pullulan A (largest diameter = 5 mm, n = 5), pllulan B (largest diameter = 10 mm, n = 5). Dynamic images were obtained for 1 hour after intratumoral injection. Static images were obtained at 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr and 4 hr after intratumoral injection with Tc-99m pertechnetate and Tc-99m-PA. Target-to-background ratios and retention rates were calculated. Results: Labeling efficiencies of PA, SPA, PA-DTPA and SPA-DTPA were $94.5{\pm}5.9%,\;97.8{\pm}3.5%\;94.2{\pm}3.8%,\;and\;92.5{\pm}6.2%$, respectively (p>0.05). Percent retention rates (%RR) of PA and PA-DTPA were significantly higher than those of control, however, those of SP-DTPA and SPA became similar to control at 4 and 12 hr, respectively. %RR of pullulan A and pullulan B at 1, 4 and 8 hr is significantly higher than that of control (p < 0.05). However, %RR between pullulan A and pullulan B were similar. Conclusion: The lonic strength dependent PD-nanoparticles are retained in the tumor. No difference of %RR according to tumor size was noted. Therapeutic application of PD labelled with beta- or alpha- emitting radionuclides can be expected.
