Analysis of multi leaf spring based on contact mechanics - a novel approach

  • A leaf spring, especially the longitudinal type is liable and persistent element in automotive suspension system. In the present scenario the composite materials are widely used in the automobile industries has shown a great interest in the replacement of steel spring due to high strength by weight ratio. Previous investigations focused on stresses and displacement analysis of single leaf spring for different materials. The present work aims to design and analysis of leaf spring for two different cases by considering the Young's modulus to yield strength ratio. In the first case the analysis deals with the design and analysis of a single cantilever solid triangle beam which is an equivalent beam of a spring with three leaves having uniform strength. In the second case a 3-beams of rectangular cross section has been considered which is equivalent to a spring with three leaves. The analysis was carried out based on contact mechanics approach. The results were compared, that the fiberglass composite leaf spring is suitable for high loading capacity, reliability and efficiency.

  • The traditional power control theories for the harmonic reduction methods in multilevel inverters are found to be unreliable under unbalanced load conditions. The unreliability in harmonic mitigation is caused by voltage fluctuations, non-linear loads, the use of power switches, etc. In general, the harmonics are reduced by filters. However, such devices are an expensive way to provide a smooth and fast response to secure power systems during dynamic conditions. Hence, the Decoupled Double Synchronous Reference Frame (DDSRF) theory combined with a State Delay Controller (SDC) is proposed to achieve a harmonic reduction in power systems. The DDSRF produces a sinusoidal harmonic that is the opposite of the load harmonic. Then, it injects this harmonic into power systems, which reduces the effect of harmonics. The SDC is used to reduce the delay between the compensation time for power injection and the generation of a reference signal. The proposed technique has been simulated using MATLAB and its reliability has been verified experimentally under unbalanced conditions.

  • Communication systems, including cell-based mobile communication systems, multiple satellite communication systems of multi-beam satellite systems, require reliable handoff methods between cell-to-cell, satellite-to-satellite of beam-to-team, respectively. Recent measurement of a CDMA cellular system indicates that the system is in handoff at about 35% to 70% of an average call period. Therefore, system reliability during handoff is one of the major system performance parameters and eventually becomes a factor in the overall system capacity. This paper presents novel and improved techniques for handoff in cellular communications, multi-beam and multi-satellite systems that require handoff during a session. this new handoff system combines the soft handoff mechanism currently implemented in the IS-95 CDMA with code and packet diversity combining techniques and an iterative decoding algorithm (Turbo Coding). the Turbo code introduced by Berrou et all. has been demonstrated its remarkable performance achieving the near Shannon channel capacity [1]. Recently. Turbo codes have been adapted as the coding scheme for the data transmission of the third generation international cellular communication standards : UTRA and CDMA 2000. Our proposed encoder and decoder schemes modified from the original Turbo code is suitable for the code and packet diversity combining techniques. this proposed system provides not only an unprecedented coding gain from the Turbo code and it iterative decoding, but also gain induced by the code and packet diversity combining technique which is similar to the hybrid Type II ARQ. We demonstrate performance improvements in AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with perfect channel state information (CSI) through simulations for at low signal to noise ratio and analysis using exact upper bounding techniques for medium to high signal to noise ratio.

Development of a Checklist for Safety Accident Prevention in Small-Scale Excavation Work through Case Analysis (사례 분석을 통한 소규모 굴착공사 안전사고 예방을 위한 체크리스트 개발)

  • Small-scale excavation sites in construction-defined as those involving excavation projects less than 10 meters deep-often lack dedicated safety managers, creating challenges in safety management. This study aims to develop an accident case-based checklist that enables workers to manage safety independently at these sites. Accident data from the past five years were obtained from the Construction Safety Management Integrated Information system, and the causes, types, and contributing factors of accidents were analyzed based on this data. These analyzed causes were linked to specific checklist items, resulting in a new checklist comprising 14 items divided into pre-construction and during-construction phases. To ensure the logical structuring of these 14 items, a group of experts conducted a survey employing pairwise comparisons. The results indicated that all items are essential for safety management at small-scale excavation sites. Furthermore, the reliability of the developed checklist was validated using newly occurring accident cases, confirming that each accident was associated with the checklist items. The checklist proposed in this study is expected to contribute to practical and effective accident prevention in small-scale excavation sites.
