Clubroot disease is the major threat to the production of Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa L.) in Japan. Although the breeding of the clubtoot resistant (CR) cultivars is one of the most efficient ways to control this disease, the CR cultivars do not always have effects due to the breakdown of resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the breeding strategy to accumulate multiple CR genes in a single cultivar effectively. We have identified two incomplete dominant CR loci, Crr1 and Crr2, which are originated from the European CR turnip Siloga. To investigate the effectiveness of marker-assisted selection (MAS) for CR breeding, the inbred line with Crr1 and Crr2 was crossed with parental lines of the existing CR $F_1$ cultivar of Chinese cabbage, followed by 5 times of MAS and backcrossing. The $F_1$ derived from a cross between the resulting parental lines improved the clubroot resistance as expected and had the same morphological characters as the original $F_1$ cultivar. We have shown that the Crr1 locus comprised two loci: Crr1a, which by itself conferred resistance to the mild isolate; and Crr1b, which had a minor effect, but was not required for Crr1a-mediated resistance. Further genetic analysis suggested that Crr1b was necessary to acquire resistance to the more virulent isolate in combination with Crr2. Molecular characterization of Crr1a encoding TIR-NB-LRR class of R protein revealed that there were at least 4 alleles in Japanese CR cultivars of Chinese cabbage. PCR analysis with Crr1a-specific markers demonstrated that the functional alleles were predicted to be present in European CR turnips, Debra and 77b besides Siloga, whereas rarely in Japanese CR cultivars, indicating that Crr1a is an useful source to improve the resistance of Chinese cabbage cultivars.

We develop liquefaction resistance curves, which represent the correlation between cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) and number of cycles (N) to estimate the build-up of residual excess pore pressure from simple shear tests performed for this study and also from published literature. The liquefaction curve is calculated from two models. The comparisons show that one of the models is not reliable because it underestimates CRR. The scatter of the data is shown to be significantly reduced when CRR is normalized to the resistance ratio at N = 15 ($CRR_{N=15}$). Use of the normalization is particularly useful because CRR can be easily estimated from field tests. From normalization, we propose mean, upper, and lower curves. The corresponding design equation and its parameters are also proposed. We believe that the proposed curves can be used for effective stress site response analyses and evaluation of the seismic performance of port structures.

The purpose of this study is to improve the calibration matrixes of 2-D and 3-D convective rainfall rates (CRR) using the brightness temperature of the infrared $10.8{\mu}m$ channel (IR), the difference of brightness temperatures between infrared $10.8{\mu}m$ and vapor $6.7{\mu}m$ channels (IR-WV), and the normalized reflectance of the visible channel (VIS) from the COMS satellite and rainfall rate from the weather radar for the period of 75 rainy days from April 22, 2011 to October 22, 2011 in Korea. Especially, the rainfall rate data of the weather radar are used to validate the new 2-D and 3-DCRR calibration matrixes suitable for the Korean peninsula for the period of 24 rainy days in 2011. The 2D and 3D calibration matrixes provide the basic and maximum CRR values ($mm\;h^{-1}$) by multiplying the rain probability matrix, which is calculated by using the number of rainy and no-rainy pixels with associated 2-D (IR, IR-WV) and 3-D (IR, IR-WV, VIS) matrixes, by the mean and maximum rainfall rate matrixes, respectively, which is calculated by dividing the accumulated rainfall rate by the number of rainy pixels and by the product of the maximum rain rate for the calibration period by the number of rain occurrences. Finally, new 2-D and 3-D CRR calibration matrixes are obtained experimentally from the regression analysis of both basic and maximum rainfall rate matrixes. As a result, an area of rainfall rate more than 10 mm/h is magnified in the new ones as well as CRR is shown in lower class ranges in matrixes between IR brightness temperature and IR-WV brightness temperature difference than the existing ones. Accuracy and categorical statistics are computed for the data of CRR events occurred during the given period. The mean error (ME), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean squire error (RMSE) in new 2-D and 3-D CRR calibrations led to smaller than in the existing ones, where false alarm ratio had decreased, probability of detection had increased a bit, and critical success index scores had improved. To take into account the strong rainfall rate in the weather events such as thunderstorms and typhoon, a moisture correction factor is corrected. This factor is defined as the product of the total precipitable waterby the relative humidity (PW RH), a mean value between surface and 500 hPa level, obtained from a numerical model or the COMS retrieval data. In this study, when the IR cloud top brightness temperature is lower than 210 K and the relative humidity is greater than 40%, the moisture correction factor is empirically scaled from 1.0 to 2.0 basing on PW RH values. Consequently, in applying to this factor in new 2D and 2D CRR calibrations, the ME, MAE, and RMSE are smaller than the new ones.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relation among the CRR, MA, and MS of military solder's who have experienced couple relationship troubles. Data collected from 239 soldiers in front-line division and post line division was analyzed by correlation analysis, t-test and hierarchical analysis using SPSS 18.0. As the results, 1. CRR and MA showed a positive correlation and CRR and MS showed a negative corelation. 2. CRR showed a significant influence on the MA. 3. CRR had a mediating effects on the process where MS influenced MA. The results of this study are expected to be used as the primary data for raising the adaptability to the military especially on the subject of couple relationship, and as an educational guidance for helping soldiers to see the positive aspect of the adversity and stress of military life.
We carried out this study to evaluate the grain refining in and the mechanical properties of alloys that undergo severe plastic deformation (SPD). Conventional rolling (CR) and cross-roll rolling (CRR) as SPD methods were used with Ni-20Cr alloy as the experimental material. The materials were cold rolled to a thickness reduction of 90% and subsequently annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to obtain a fully recrystallized microstructure. For the annealed materials after the cold rolling, electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) analysis was carried out to investigate the grain boundary characteristic distributions (GBCDs). The CRR process was more effective when used to develop the grain refinement relative to the CR process; as a result, the grain size was refined from $70{\mu}m$ in the initial material to $4.2{\mu}m$ (CR) and $2.4{\mu}m$ (CRR). These grain refinements have a direct effect on improving the mechanical properties; in this case, the microhardness, yield and tensile strength showed significant increases compared to the initial material. In particular, the CRR-processed material showed more effective values relative to the CR-processed materials. The different texture distributions in the CR (001//ND) and CRR (111//ND) were likely the cause of the increase in the mechanical properties. These findings suggest that CRR can result in materials with a smaller grain size, improved texture development and improved mechanical properties after recrystallization by a subsequent annealing process.
This study investigates the effects of loading frequency (f) and specimen size on the liquefaction resistance of clean sand. A series of cyclic direct simple shear tests were conducted on Jumunjin sand with varying consolidated relative densities (40% and 80%), f values (0.05, 0.10, and 0.20 Hz), and diameter to height (D/H) ratios (3.63, 3.18, 2.82, and 2.54). The results demonstrated the significant influence of f and D/H ratio on the number of cycles to liquefaction (Ncyc-liq) and the cyclic resistance ratio (CRR15). It was observed that increasing f linearly increased Ncyc-liq. Increasing the specimen height also led to higher Ncyc-liq values irrespective of the f or relative density. Moreover, a positive correlation between CRR15 and f indicated that higher f yielded higher CRR15. This relationship was more pronounced in dense sand than in loose sand. Specimen height also significantly affected CRR15, with increasing the specimen height resulting in higher CRR15 values. Furthermore, the effect of f on CRR15 was less significant compared to the influence of specimen height. The effect of f on the normalized cyclic resistance ratio (NCRR) was relatively negligible for loose sand but more substantial for dense sand depending on the D/H ratio. Data analysis revealed that the NCRR generally decreases as the D/H ratio increases. An interpolation formula was provided to calculate the NCRR based on the D/H ratio regardless of the f and relative density.
Recently, as the number of earthquakes increases in the Korean Peninsula and surrounding area, the importance of earthquake countermeasures and seismic design has been increasing. As a result, interest and concerns about liquefaction, which is one of the problems that concern the earthquake, are increasing. There are various methods that can assess the possibility of liquefaction by using geotechnical information for specific ground. However, direct comparisons of each method are not yet available. In this study, the two methods using the SPT-N value and the shear wave velocity among the methods for estimating the Cyclic Resistance Ratio (CRR) value required for the simplified liquefaction assessment method were compared. And the correction of the ground information required to use the two methods respectively was compared. As a result, more accurate evaluation results were obtained when the CRR value is calculated using the SPT-N values.

The minimum attractive rate of return (MARR) has been used for many years as a decision criterion in engineering economic analysis. Typically, inflation has been either ignored in such studies or considered by adjusting each of the individual cash flows associated with a project for inflation, frequently a lengthy process. This research investigates a new decision criterion for economic analysis, the comparative rate of return (CRR). The CRR is defined to be the minimum rate of return earned on uninflated cash flows of proposed expenditures is simplified, since the analysis can be performed on the uninflated cash flows. The research presents a derivation of the CRR and investigates its relationships to the MARR, inflation rate project cash flows and project life.

Liquefaction is a significant threat to structures on loose saturated sandy soil deposits in the event of an earthquake, and can often cause catastrophic damage, economic loss, and loss of life. Nevertheless, the Korean peninsula has for a long time been recognized as a safe region with respect to the hazard of liquefaction, as the peninsula is located in a moderate seismicity region, and there have been no reports of liquefaction, with the exception of references in some historical documents. However, some earthquakes that have recently occurred in different parts of the world have led to liquefaction in non-plastic silty soils, a soil type that can be found in many of the western coastal areas of Korea. In this study, we first present procedures for evaluating the liquefaction potential, and calculate the liquefaction potential index (LPI) distribution at two western coastal sites using both piezocone penetration test (CPTu) data and standard penetration test (SPT) data. The LPI is computed by integrating liquefaction potential over a depth of 20m, and provides an estimate of liquefaction-related surface damage. In addition, we compared the LPI values obtained from CPTu and SPT, respectively. Our research found that the CRR values from CPTu were lower than those from the SPT, particularly in the range between 40 and 120 for the corrected tip resistance, (qc1N)CS, from the CPTu, or in the range of CRR less than 0.23, resulting in relatively high LPI values. Moreover, it was observed that the differences in the CRR between the two methods were relatively higher for soils with high fine contents.
