  • In this paper, a CR(Cognitive Radio) based on SDR(Software Defined Radio) is the technology combined a method selecting available frequency by recognizing surroundings with a learning algorithm continuously updating basic functions for communication and various environment parameters. Recently, as increasing demands with development of wireless communication service, CR is in the spotlight as technology using frequency resource efficiently. In order to apply CR system to the terminal and implement it, the research field to be preceded can be divided large as a hardware part and a software part. It can be also divided into RF processing and digital signal processing in the hardware part. In this paper, we look over preceding techniques required for applying CR system to the terminal, and research the forms of the terminal when they practically apply to the terminal.

  • This paper proposes a new optimization algorithm named by GBNSGA(Goal-Pareto Based Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm) which determines the best configuration for CR(Cognitive Radio) communication systems. Conventionally, in order to select the proper radio configuration, genetic algorithm has been introduced so as to alleviate computational burden along the execution of the cognition cycle proposed by Mitola. This paper proposes a novel optimization algorithm designated as GBNSGA for cognitive engine which can be described as a hybrid algorithm combining well-known Pareto-based NSGA(Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm) as well as GP(Goal Programming). By conducting computer simulations, it will be verified that the proposed method not only satisfies the user's service requirements in the form of goals. It reveals the fast optimization capability and more various solutions rather than conventional NSGA or weighted-sum approach.

  • This paper describes the optimization of spectrum sensing in terms of the throughput of a cognitive radio (CR) system. Dealing with the optimization problem of spectrum sensing, this paper evaluates the throughput of a CR system by considering such situations as the penalty time of a channel search and incumbent user (IU) detection delay caused by a missed detection of an incumbent signal. Also, this paper suggests a serial channel search scheme as the search method for a vacant channel, and derives its mean channel search time by considering the penalty time due to the false alarm of a vacant channel search. The numerical results suggest the optimum sensing time of the channel search process using the derived mean channel search time of a serial channel search in the case of a sensing hardware structure with single radio frequency (RF) path. It also demonstrates that the average throughput is improved by two separate RF paths in spite of the hardware complexity of an RF receiver.

  • Radio jamming attack is the most effective and easiest Denial-of-Service (DOS) attack in wireless network. In this paper, we proposed a multi-channel MAC protocol to mitigate the jamming attacks by using cognitive radio. The Cognitive Radio (CR) technology supports real-time spectrum sensing and fast channel switching. By using CR technologies, the legitimate nodes can perform periodic spectrum sensing to identify jamming free channels and when the jamming attack is detected, it can switch to un-jammed channel with minimum channel switching delay. In our proposed protocol, these two CR technologies are exploited for thwarting the jamming attacks.

  • In cognitive radio (CR) systems, cognitive users can use the frequency bands when the primary users are not present. Hence, reliable detection of available spectrum is foundation of cognitive radio technology. To ensure unimpaired operation of primary users, cooperative spectrum sensing is needed. To reduce the network overhead of cooperative spectrum sensing, a novel cooperative spectrum sensing algorithm based on credibility is proposed. In particular, the close-form expressions for probability of detection and false-alarm are derived for the novel algorithm, and expression for the average overhead used for cooperation is given. The thresholds design method for the algorithm is also discussed. The conclusion is proved by computer simulations.

  • With the increasing number of the wireless and mobile networks, the way that people use the Internet has changed substantively. Wireless multimedia services, such as wireless video streaming, mobile video game, and mobile voice over IP, will become the main applications of the future wireless Internet. To accommodate the growing volume of wireless data traffic and multimedia services, cognitive radio (CR) and Information-Centric Network (ICN) have been proposed to maximize the utilization of wireless spectrum and improve the network performance. Although CR and ICN have high potential significance for the future wireless Internet, few studies have been conducted on collaborative operations of CR and ICN. Due to the lack of infrastructure support in multi-hop ad hoc CR networks, the problem is more challenging for video streaming services. In this paper, we propose a Cross-layer Video Streaming Mechanism (CLISM) for Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Information Centric Networks (CRAH-ICNs). The CLISM included two distributed schemes which are designed for the forwarding nodes and receiving nodes in CRAH-ICNs. With the cross-layer approach, the CLISM is able to self-adapt the variation of the link conditions without the central network controller. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed CLISM efficiently adjust video transmission policy under various network conditions.

  • A cooperative spectrum sensing has been proposed to improve the sensing performance in cognitive radio (CR) network. However, cooperative sensing causes additional overhead for reporting the result of local sensing to the fusion center. In this paper, we propose a technique to reduce the overhead of data transmission of cooperative sensing for applying the quantum data fusion technique in cognitive radio networks by omitting the lowest quantized in the local sensed results. If a CR node senses the lowest quantized level, it will not send its local sensing data in the corresponding sensing period. The fusion center can implcitly know that a spectific CR node sensed lowest level if there is no report from that CR node. The goal of proposed sensing policy is to reduce the overhead of quantized data fusion scheme for cooperative sensing. Also, our scheme can be adapted to all quantized data fusion schemes because it only deal with the form of the quantized data report. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves performance in terms of reporting overhead.

  • In this paper, the game theory based power control for CDMA system is studied, which has attained intensive interest as a core artificial intelligent technology fur cognitive Radio and its efficiency is evaluated using performance metrics such as system throughput and fairness. Utility Function for joint user centric and network centric power control is defined and simulation results show that game theory based power control is far better than closed loop power control. The contribution of this raper is to formalize the game theory based power control toward the cognitive radio that recognizes and adapts to the radio communication environments.
