  • We investigate into some problems related to Corruption Perception Index(CPI). Delphi method is a popular for obtaining CPI; it is a mean of systematically collecting and progressively refining information provided by a group of selected experts in order to obtaining the weight values of questionnaires. However, Delphi method hold low aspect, to some extent, for it is solely dependent upon the judgment of a few professionals. In this paper, we propose the measurement model for X in LISREL as alternative for gaining the weight values of questionnaires. We use the 1999 Seoul ACI(Anti- Corruption Index) for empirical study.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the systemic osteoporosis of Korean adults on their periodontal diseases and CPI index based on the data of their systemic osteoporosis. Methods : The third-year raw data of the 4th 2009 National Health & Nutrition Survey that turned out to be representative and reliable were utilized. The subjects in this study were 7,285 adults who were over the age of 19 and got both of health and dental checkups. As for data analysis, the statistical packages PASW 19.0 and SAS 9.0 were employed. Results : The most periodontal diseases were found in those who had osteoporosis in the entire parts, entire femur, femoral neck and spiral bone, but there was no significant relationship between periodontal diseases and osteoporosis. As for the connections between peridontal diseases and osteoporosis, the adults who had femoral neck osteoporosis had a 2.057-fold less bone mass than those who had a normal bone density in this part, and the former's periodontal diseases increased in proportion to that. There was consequently a statistically significant relationship between the two(p<0.05). Among the prevalence factors of osteoporosis, a lower entire femur bone mineral density led to a lower CPI index(p<0.01), and a lower femoral neck bone mineral density led to a higher CPI index(p<0.05). Thus, there was a significant relationship between osteoporosis and the oral health indicator. Conclusions : The above-mentioned findings confirmed that in terms of the relationship among the periodontal diseases, CPI index and osteoporosis of Korean adults, a higher risk of osteoporosis affected the increase of chronic periodontal diseases.

  • Our previous study demonstrated that flavone inhibits vascular contractions by decreasing the phosphorylation levelof the myosin phosphatase target subunit (MYPT1). In the present study, we hypothesized that flavone attenuates vascular contractions through the inhibition of the RhoA/Rho kinase pathway. Rat aortic rings were denuded of endothelium, mounted in organ baths, and contracted with either 30 nM U46619 (a thromboxane A2 analogue) or 8.0 mM NaF 30 min after pretreatment with either flavone (100 or 300 $({\mu}M$) or vehicle. We determined the phosphorylation level of the myosin light chain ($MLC_{20}$), the myosin phophatase targeting subunit 1 (MYPT1) and the protein kinase C-potentiated inhibitory protein for heterotrimeric myosin light chain phophatase of 17-kDa (CPI17) by means of Western blot analysis. Flavone inhibited, not only vascular contractions induced by these contractors, but also the levels of $MLC_{20}$ phosphorylation. Furthermore, flavone inhibited the activation of RhoA which had been induced by either U46619 or NaF. Incubation with flavone attenuated U46619 or NaF-induced phosphorylation of $MYPT1^{Thr855}$ and $CPI17^{Thr38}$, the downstream effectors of Rho-kinase. In regards to the $Ca^{2+}$-free solution, flavone inhibited the phosphorylation of $MYPT1^{Thr855}$ and $CPI17^{Thr38}$, as well as vascular contractions induced by U 46619. These results indicate that flavone attenuates vascular contractions, at least in part, through the inhibition of the RhoA/Rho-kinase pathway.

  • The display industry is transitioning from traditional rigid products such as flat panel displays to flexible or wearable ones designed to be folded or rolled. Accordingly, colorless and optically transparent polyimide (CPI) films are one of the prime candidates to substitute traditional cover glass as a passivation layer to accommodate product flexibility. However, CPI films subjected to repetitive pure bending loads inevitably entail an accumulation of residual strain that can eventually cause wrinkles or delamination in the underlying component after a certain number of static and cyclic loading. The purpose of this study is to establish an experimental method to systematically evaluate the bending residual strain of CPI films. Films were monotonically and cyclically wrapped on mandrels of various diameters to ensure a constant strain in each. After unwrapping the wound CPI film, the residual radius of curvature remaining on the film was measured and converted into residual strain. The critical radius of curvature at which residual strain does not remain was about 5 mm, and the residual strain decreased in proportion to the log time. It is expected that flexible displays can be reliably designed using the data between the applied bending strain and the residual strain.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to examine how Korea's macroeconomic factors, such as GDP, CPI, Export, Import, Unemployment rate and USD/KRW exchange rate, are affected by the oil price shocks. Design/methodology/approach - This study used monthly and quarterly time-series data of each variable for the period 1983 to 2022, consisting of two sub-periods, to employ Granger causality test and GARCH method in order to identify the role of the oil price movement in macroeconomic factors in Korea. Findings - Korea's currency rate to the US dollar is negatively correlated with the price change of crude oil while the GDP change is positively correlated with the price change of crude oil with strong relationship between Export and Import in particular. The exchange rate and GDP growth are believed to be not correlated with the oil price change for the pre-GFC period. According to the Granger causality test, the price change in crude oil has a causal impact on CPI, Export and Import while other factors are relatively slightly affected. Transmission effect from the oil price to Export is found and there also exists volatility spillover from oil price to economic variables under examination. Comparing two sub-periods, CPI and Export volatility responds negatively to shocks in the oil price for the pre-GFC period while volatility of CPI and Unemployment reacts positively to the oil price shocks for the post-GFC period. Research implications or Originality - The findings of this study could be helpful for both domestic and international investors to build their portfolio for the risk management since rising WTI price can be interpreted as a result of global economic growth and ensuing increase in the worldwide demand of the crude oil. Consequently, the national output is expected to increase and the currency is also expected to be strong in the long run.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the influencing factors of metabolic syndrome on the periodontal disease in the Korean adults over 40 years old. Methods: The data were extracted from the Fifth National Health Nutrition Survey 2010. The subjects were adults over 40 years old. The periodontal diseases were examined by direct survey. The questionnaire consisted of the general characteristics of the subjects, oral health behavior, metabolic syndrome, and relation to periodontal diseases. CPI(community periodontal index) was measured. CPI indicates periodontal condition and classified into alveolar arch of the upper jaw and the lower jaw. A periodontal disease is defined as $CPI{\geq}3$(over 4 mm). The variables for metabolic diseases included hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and obesity measured as BMI. Results: Diabetes mellitus is closely related to periodontal diseases prevalence. Low level of HDL increase the periodontal diseases. Number of toothbrushung, use of dental floss and interdental toothbrush as for the number of toothbrushing, more than twice toothbrushing a day, and use of dental floss and interdental toothbrush reduced periodontal diseases. Conclusions: The risk factors of periodontal disease in Korean adults over 40 years old were sex, age, residence, monthly income, education level, smoking, diabetes and low HDL cholesterol.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the geriatric status, oral health, and oral health related quality of life of stroke patients hospitalized at a rehabilitatio ward and assess the relationships among these factors. A total of 78 stroke patients participated in this cross-sectional study. The following oral examinations were performed by a dentist and dental hygienist: Decayed, Missing, Filled Teeth, gingival, debris, calculus, and community periodontal index (CPI). The patients' sociodemographic and geriatric status were evaluated using the Barthel index and a mini-mental state examine (MMSE) according to their medical record and a questionnaire survey. Oral health related quality of life was assessed using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaire. Except for three participants, most stroke patients had a gingival index of 2 or more, which means probing results in bleeding gums. Additionally, 53.8% of participants had a CPI code of 3 or 4, which indicates a probing depth of 4 mm or more. CPI index was significantly related to debris, calculus, and gingival index. The OHIP-14 score significantly related to the Barthel index and MMSE (p<0.05). The oral health of stroke patients in the rehabilitation ward was relatively poor and related to poor oral hygiene. Oral health related quality of life was related not to oral health but to geriatric status significantly.

  • The present study was performed to prove the relationship between CO-CR discrepancy and facial skeletal type. In this study, 242 subjects were randomly selected and devided into 9 groups(devided into class I, II, III by ANB and each one devided into dolicho-, brachy-, mesofacial skeleton by Ricketts' vertical index). Lateral cephalometric radiographs with the mandible in centric occlusion were taken and measured and CO and CR bites were registered on all subjects. Diagnostic casts were mounted on Panadent articulator using an estimated face-bow and centric relation bite registration. The amount and direction of CO-CR discrepancy present was recorded using a Condylar Position Indicator(CPI) and a centric occlusion wax bite registration. CPI measurements and cephalometric measurements were statistically analyzed. The finding of this study can be summerized as follows : 1. There is little correlation between right and left sides for magnitude or direction of CO-CR discrepancies. The correlation between the magnitude of CO-CR discrepancy of left A-P and right A-P is higher than that of left S-I and right S-I. 2. Correlation of Class II malocclusion group was higher than that of the other groups between the magnitude of CO-CR discrepancy of left CPI and right CPI. 3. There is no difference between the pattern of CO-CR discrepancy of 9 malocclusion groups. 4. There is very little, if any, correlation between Skeletofacial measurements and CO-CR discrepancy. 5. In Class II brachyfacial skeleton and Class III mesofacial skeleton there was Lateral cephalometric measurements by that we predict CPI measurements was detected. That was overbite, overjet, upper genial angle, lower genial angle, saddle angle, articular angle, convexity of point A, ANS-Me/Na-Me, PCBL/RH, Posterior FH/anterior FH.

  • This study empirically examines the impact of changes in market shares among retailing types on the price index. The retailing type is classified into 6 groups: department store, big mart, super market, convenient store, specialty merchant, and on-line store. The market shares of retailing types are calculated by the ratio of each retailing type monthly sales to total monthly retailing sales in which total retailing sales is the sum of each retailing type sales. We employed several price indices: consumer price index (CPI), CPI for living necessaries, and fresh food price index. In addition, this study used fundamental price indices based on 25 product families as well as 42 representative products. The empirical model also included several variables in order to control for the macroeconomic effects and those variables are the exchange rate, M1, an oil price, and the industrial production index. The data is monthly time-series data spanning over the period from January 2000 to December 2010. In order to test for the stability of data series, we conducted ADF test and PP test in which the model and length of lag were determined by the relevant previous literature and based on the AIC. The empirical results indicate that changes in market shares among retailing types have impacts on the price index. Table A shows that impacts differ as to which price index to use and which product families and products to use. For department store, it lowers the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, home appliances, fresh food, fresh and vegetables, but it keeps the price high for fresh fruit. The big mart retailing type has a positive impact on the price of food, nut has a negative effect on clothing and foot wear, non-food, and fresh fruit. For super market, it has a positive impact on food and non-alcoholic beverages, fresh food, fresh shellfishes, but increases the price of CPI for living necessaries and non-food. The specialty merchant retailing type increases the price level of CPI for living necessaries and fresh fruit. For on-line store type, it keeps the price high for CPI for living necessaries and non-food as well as fresh fruit. For the analysis based on 25 product families shows that changes in market shares among retailing types also have different effects on the price index. Table B summarizes the different results. The 42 representative product level analysis is summerized in Table C and it indicates that changes in market shares among retailing types have different effects on the price index. The study offers the theoretical and practical implication to these findings and also suggests the direction for the further analysis.
