  • With the outbreak of COVID-19, non-face-to-face activities such as remote learning and telecommuting have increased rapidly. As a result, the number of people staying at home and the number of hours spent inside the house have also increased since the pandemic. Our team had previously worked on methods for detecting abnormal conditions in a person's health in various circumstances within the house by converging single sensor-based algorithms. In our previous research, we installed IoT sensors indoors to detect people emergency situations requiring aids, the scope of detection was limited to indoor space due to the limitation in sensors. In this study, we have come up with a system that integrates our previous study with a new method for detecting abnormal conditions in outdoor environments using outdoor security cameras and wearable devices. The proposed system enables users to be notified of emergency situations in both indoor and outdoor areas and respond to them as quickly as possible.

  • The scope of teleaudiology has been noted with telehealth due to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) recently. As the notion has been around us for more than 20 years ever since 1999, it is necessary to perceive the knowledge accurately and prepare for the successful implementation of it. Therefore, the literature review including screening and diagnostic audiometry, cochlear implants and hearing aids, and aural rehabilitation, telecommunications technology regarding several fields of teleaudiology, and considerations for practicing were identified. Although overall internet-based audiological services showed benefits in terms of outcome and accessibility, uncertainties of cost-effectiveness, the optimal level of support, and a need for further studies of many aspects for teleaudiology has arisen. In the view of technology, the store-and-forward (asynchronous/hybrid) and a real-time (synchronous) methods were introduced with one applied and nine registered patents recorded from 2004 to 2020 for the invention of teleaudiology in the United States. Also, 10 checklists were suggested for planning teleaudiology practice from prior experience in hosting the teleaudiology program. Conclusively, it is hoped that this review sheds light on recognizing and improving the existing teleaudiology services and helps overcome the challenges faced in the era of pandemic and untact world to come.

  • Innovative genome editing techniques developed in recent decades have revolutionized the biomedical research field. Liver is the most favored target organ for genome editing owing to its ability to regenerate. The regenerative capacity of the liver enables ex vivo gene editing in which the mutated gene in hepatocytes isolated from the animal model of genetic disease is repaired. The edited hepatocytes are injected back into the animal to mitigate the disease. Furthermore, the liver is considered as the easiest target organ for gene editing as it absorbs almost all foreign molecules. The mRNA vaccines, which have been developed to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, have provided a novel gene editing strategy using Cas mRNA. A single injection of gene editing components with Cas mRNA is reported to be efficient in the treatment of patients with genetic liver diseases. In this review, we first discuss previously reported gene editing tools and cases managed using them, as well as liver diseases caused by genetic mutations. Next, we summarize the recent successes of ex vivo and in vivo gene editing approaches in ameliorating liver diseases in animals and humans.

Methods: This study conducted the scoping review process outlined by Arskey and O' Malley using the JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute) template. The databases used were Riss, Kiss, NDSL, KMbase, Google Scholar. This study searched the literature published between January 2011 and November 2021 by entering keywords related to DM self-management. Results: Thirty-five studies were selected for analysis. The period for 24 articles was 12 weeks or longer. The interventions consisted of education, exercise, counseling, and coaching. Not all studies applied the theory of behavior change. Fourteen studies included three factors relating to behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and blood sugar changes to measure effectiveness, while ten studies included all four factors. Most interventions were effective both in DM self-management and self-care. Further, the intervention persistence effect of each study varied. Conclusion: While research on DM self-management intervention has been conducted at domestically and abroad, this decreased during COVID-19 pandemic. This study suggests the importance of systematically developing effective necessary optimal DM self-management interventions that can change behaviors to prevent diabetic complications and improve quality of life.

  • Pandemic situations such as COVID-19 can occur supply chain crisis. Under the supply chain crisis, delivering farm products from the farm to the city is also very challenging. Therefore it is essential to prepare food sufficiency people who live in a city. We firmly insist on food self-production/consumption systems in each home. However, since it is impossible to grow high-quality crops without expertise knowledge. Therefore expert system is essential to grow high-quality crops in home. To address this problem, we propose a smart kitchen farm as a data-based monitoring system and platform with ICT convergence technology. Our proposed approach 1) collects data and makes judgments based on expert knowledge for home users, 2) increases product quality of the smart kitchen farms by predicting abnormal/normal crops, and 3) controls each personal home cultivation environment through data-based monitoring within the smart central server. We expect people can cultivate high-quality crops in thir kitchens through this system without expert knowledge about cultivation.
