글로벌 팬데믹 사태는 항공 수요에 부정적인 영향을 끼치는 요소 중 하나다. 글로벌 팬데믹으로 인해 한국은 2020년과 2021년의 항공 승객 수가 2019년 대비 각각 68.1%와 47% 감소했다. 본 연구는 지난 20여년 동안 발생한 4대 팬데믹 특성을 분석, 전염병의 영향을 연구하는 것을 목표로 한다. SARS, H1N1, MERS 및 COVID-19의 발생기간 동안 한국의 항공 여객 및 화물 수요에 대한 실증 데이터를 활용하여 영향력을 분석한다. 또한 머신러닝 회귀 모델을 구축하여 향후 발생할 다른 전염병 대한 항공 수요를 예측하고자 한다. 연구 결과, 전염병이 항공 운항편수와 승객에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 사실을 발견하였다. 반면화물 수송에는 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 분석 결과를 도출하였다. 본 분석에 활용되는 회귀 모델은 팬데믹 기간 동안 항공수요를 예측하는 데 평균 86.8%의 기능을 보였다. 또한 본 연구는 특정 국가의 팬데믹 상황보다 전 세계적인 팬데믹 상황이 항공 운송 수요에 더 많은 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여준다.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased demand for safe and effective vaccines. Research to develop vaccines against diseases including Middle East respiratory syndrome, Ebolavirus, human immunodeficiency virus, and various cancers would also contribute to global well-being. For successful vaccine development, the advancement of technologies such as antigen (Ag) screening, Ag delivery systems and adjuvants, and manufacturing processes is essential. Ag delivery systems are required not only to deliver a sufficient amount of Ag for vaccination, but also to enhance immune response. In addition, Ag types and their delivery systems determine the manufacturing processes of the vaccine product. Here, we analyze the characteristics of various Ag delivery systems: plasmids, viral vectors, bacterial vectors, nanoparticles, self-assembled particles, natural and artificial cells, and extracellular vesicles. This review provides insight into the current vaccine landscape and highlights promising avenues of research for the development and improvement of Ag delivery systems.

We present the status of the development of a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) parameter estimation (PE) pipeline for compact binary coalescences (CBCs) with the Japanese KAGRA gravitational-wave (GW) detector. The pipeline is included in the KAGRA Algorithm Library (KAGALI). Basic functionalities are benchmarked from the LIGO Algorithm Library (LALSuite) but the KAGRA MCMC PE pipeline will provide a simpler, memory-efficient pipeline to estimate physical parameters from gravitational waves emitted from compact binaries consisting of black holes or neutron stars. Applying inspiral-merge-ringdown and inspiral waveforms, we performed simulations of various black hole binaries, we performed the code sanity check and performance test. In this talk, we present the situation of GW observation with the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to preliminary PE results with the KAGALI MCMC PE pipeline, we discuss how we can optimize a CBC PE pipeline toward the next observation run.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has made it difficult to gather participants in offline astronomical programs since March, 2020. For this reason Gwacheon National Science Museum has developed online programs of the partial solar eclipse and the Asteroid Day event in June, the celebration for launching Mars 2020 in July and Perseids in August. In this poster, we present how to plan each of them and research on methods that deliver astronomical contents to viewers effectively. In addition, we introduce preparing a couple of online programs in the rest of this year.

In 2021, Tokyo held the delayed 2020 Olympics in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As with any Olympics, the final medal count was of particular interest. Since 2004, South Korea has consistently ranked in the top ten most successful countries for four straight Summer Olympics. However, in 2021, it fell short of a top ten finish for the first time since 2004. There may be many factors that affect the final medal count in any Olympics, and this study compares and looks for correlations between some of these factors including final medal count, GDP, population, size of Olympic contingent, and Freedom Index. The study pays particular attention to South Korea and other countries which have seen a dramatic change in Freedom Index score since 1972, when the index was first published.

In light of the unprecedented occupational health and safety concerns that have been raised in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of seafarers' mental health has been significantly underlined. Despite the fact that there has been a significant amount of research on the psychological threats of seafarers' mental health, mutual cooperative actions on this issue have not been properly coordinated among seafarers' relevant bodies and stakeholders in APEC region. This paper introduces the APEC SEN's initiatives that have been undertaken to improve the mental health of seafarers, in collaboration with medical professionals, seafarers' unions, maritime administrations, and other stakeholders, through the development of training programmes and materials for both seafarers and modulators, resulting in a more effective approach to mental healthcare promotion.

Unstable crop production and distribution affected by climate change and COVID-19 pandemic has raised the food security concerns worldwide. In particular, Russia's invasion to Ukraine has blocked the grain trade such as wheat and com to importing countries, which has aggravated the situation. Korea has relied on foreign imports for about 80% of domestic grain demand, raising great concerns on food security. Considering situations related to Korea's food security, some points in view of a crop scientist are suggested and discussed as follows; 1) Domestic production of major grain crops should be increased through encouraging farmers by appropriate governmental subsidy programs 2) International corporation should be strengthened and diversified for sustainable overseas agricultural development and for stable import even in case of food crisis and emergency. 3) Self-sufficiency target should be specified by law so that more budget investments could be put to alleviate the food security concerns. 4) Technologies for climate smart agriculture and for competitive agricultural products should be developed aided by social and governmental support.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may be stressful for people. Public health actions, such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety. As a result, there is a growing interest towards various materials to relieve stress. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the anti-stress effects of ethanol extract of Ziziphus jujuba in PC12 cells treated with corticosterone and its underling mechanisms. Furthermore, the viability of the cells, the apoptosis of the cells, the level of phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases (p-ERKs) expression were measured by MTT assay, LDH assay, Hoechst staining assay and western blotting. Our results showed that the extract of Ziziphus jujuba reversed corticosterone-induced damage in PC12 cells, which increased cell viability, decreased LDH release, and attenuated corticosterone-induced apoptosis as compared with the corticosterone-treated group. Therefore, these data suggest that the extract of Ziziphus jujuba could be a good candidate for development as a functional food supplement in the improve the anti-stress effect.

본 연구는 공중보건 비상사태 발생 시 시민들의 위기의식과 신뢰 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 위기의 영향은 개인, 사회, 국가에 따라 다르다. 정부의 위기관리는 특히 '공공성'이라는 측면에서 비정부기구와 매우 다른 것이 국민의 책임의식을 해소하기 위한 관료제를 수반하기 때문이다. 전염병 확산 단계에서 사람들은 부정적인 감정에 쉽게 빠지게 되며, 중대사고 발생 후 대중의 부정적인 감정을 줄이는 것은 중대사고로 인한 조직의 피해를 효과적으로 줄일 수 있다. 코로나19 팬데믹 상황에서 시민들의 위기의식이 신뢰에 미치는 영향을 기반으로 공중보건 위기상황의 관리를 최적화하고 시민들의 정신건강을 증진 시킬 수 있는 방안에 대한 지침을 제공해야 한다고 판단 된다.

본 연구는 코로나19 대응을 위한 업무연속성계획의 가동 경험을 분석하여 체계를 개선한 내용을 다루고 있다. 코로나19는 전 세계적으로 팬데믹을 일으킨 대유행병으로, 감염병 확산으로 인한 위기 상황에서 업무연속성을 확보하는 것이 중요하다. 전력에너지 공기업은 위기대응 체계를 구축하고 필수 대응 사례를 분석하여 업무연속성을 유지하는 방안을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 근무환경 분리, 핵심인력 확보, 비상대응 업무계획 수립 등 다양한 대책을 시행하였다. 코로나19 상황에서 전력에너지 공급업무의 연속성 확보를 위한 이러한 대책들은 효과적으로 시행되었고, 감염병 재난관리에 대한 매뉴얼로 활용하고 있다.
