Special Education Teachers' Competence, Self-Efficacy, and Autonomy in Using ICT amid the Covid19 Pandemic

  • The outbreak of Covid-19 has forced teachers of special education in Saudi Arabia to keep to themselves to live in a technology-infused society throughout the virtual teaching and learning process. This study set out to explore the competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy in using information communication technology (ICT) of special education teachers in Saudi Arabia. A total of 244 special education teachers in Saudi Arabia participated in this study. This study adopted the New General Self-Efficacy Scale developed and validated by Chen, Gully, and Eden (2001), as well as the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale (BPNES) developed and validated by Vlachopoulos and Michailidou (2006). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used as the main data analysis in this study. The findings showed that special education teachers in Saudi Arabia possessed competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy in using ICT in their teaching and learning process. All the factor loadings in each factor were.75 or higher, indicating good factor loadings. The results of the MANOVA indicated that special education teachers in Saudi Arabia do not report different perceptions of their competence, self-efficacy, and autonomy despite their different gender, age group, academic background, and teaching experiences.

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in the human population in late 2019, it has spread on an unprecedented scale worldwide leading to the first coronavirus pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 infection results in a wide range of clinical manifestations from asymptomatic to fatal cases. Although intensive research has been undertaken to increase understanding of the complex biology of SARS-CoV-2 infection, the detailed mechanisms underpinning the severe pathogenesis and interactions between the virus and the host immune response are not well understood. Thus, the development of appropriate animal models that recapitulate human clinical manifestations and immune responses against SARS-CoV-2 is crucial. Although many animal models are currently available for the study of SARS-CoV-2 infection, each has distinct advantages and disadvantages, and some models show variable results between and within species. Thus, we aim to discuss the different animal models, including mice, hamsters, ferrets, and non-human primates, employed for SARS-CoV-2 infection studies and outline their individual strengths and limitations for use in studies aimed at increasing understanding of coronavirus pathogenesis. Moreover, a significant advantage of these animal models is that they can be tailored, providing unique options specific to the scientific goals of each researcher.

Investigating the reassessment opportunity for prospective teachers within their initial required content course

  • In K-12 education, reassessment is a common practice, providing students with opportunities to enhance their understanding through low-stakes assignments. However, reassessment is underutilized in higher education, including during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our study advocates for expanding the use of reassessment in university settings to promote holistic learning and focus on what shifts of change were made by students in an initial mathematics content course as they sought to gain licensure for teaching in a birth (daycare/pre-K setting) to eighth-grade classrooms. Our study took place during COVID-19 semesters and aimed to examine how using a reassessment approach early on in a gateway course for Prospective Teachers (PTs) affected the pass rate of the course. Results showed significant differences between the PTs who engaged with the test recovery and those who did not. We propose recovery opportunities like ours provide the necessary guidance to support early degree necessary classes that are typically gatekeeping and, as another, likely cause too few students within the courses because they were able to advance into the teacher pipeline and out into the field. Future studies may consider how the reassessment could be done more before the official summative assessment of a unit or chapter to continue the shifts in teaching practices and pedagogy that are constant within the K-12 education systems at the university level.

Analysis of Student Attitude and Their Acceptance for e-Evaluation during (COVID-19): Implementation and Implications

  • This research aimed to promote the electronic evaluation tools to tackle the pandemic implications (corona, COVID-19) and analyze the attitude and academic acceptance at the level of the female student's in the department of computer science - faculty of computer science and information technology at Jazan University, Saudi Arabia. The student's attitude toward e-assessment tolls has been measured and the main research sample consisted of 40 students' experimental group. A survey is also conducted to the assessment of the validity and reliability of research questions with the help of 50 students before implementation. There was a statistically significant difference between students' average grades in the post-measurement of the tendency toward electronic evaluation of the experimental groups in favor of the experimental group, at the significance level (0.01). The results also showed a statistically significant difference at the level of significance (0.01) between average scores of students in academic acceptance level in the experimental groups in favor of the experimental group. The findings of this research indicate the achievement of the e-Evaluation Acceptance and are highly recommended to propagate the use of electronic evaluation.

An Exploratory Study on the Experience and Expectations of Christian Children Regarding COVID-19 (신앙을 가진 어린이들이 코로나19 시기에 경험한 변화와 바람에 관한 질적연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest educational directions by exploring the stories of changes and expectations experienced by Christian children during the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, nine third- to fourth-grade elementary school children attending the church, were interviewed about their changes and expectations regarding COVID-19. The results identified five areas of experience: daily life changes, school life changes, interpersonal relationship changes, religious life changes, and emotional changes during the COVID-19 period. Daily changes included infection prevention, missing play, leisurely routine, and lethargy. Changes in school life included loss of face-to-face classes and various rule requirements. Interpersonal relationship changes included the difficulties in forming relationships with friends, teachers, parents, and siblings, and religious life changes included loss of face-to-face worship and the restoration of family worship. Various negative emotions were expressed. Analysis of the participants' expectations showed in daily life they wanted to travel and play, return to pre-corona school life, return to face-to-face worship, restore retreats, and develop fun programs as religious life expectations. Based on these children's experiences and wishes, the study suggests that educators need to recognize children's efforts during the COVID-19 period, read their hurt feelings, and develop church programs that include communication, community, and fun elements.

Comparative Analysis of News Big Data related to SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

  • This paper intends to draw implications for preparing for Post-Corona in the health field and policy fields as the global pandemic is experienced due to COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to analyze the news and trends of media companies through temporal analysis of the three infectious diseases, SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), in which the domestic infectious disease preventive system was active throughout the first year of the outbreak. To this end, by using the news analysis program of the Korea Press Foundation 'Big Kinds', the number of news articles per year was digitized based on the period when each infectious disease had an impact on Korea, and major trends were implemented and analyzed in a word cloud. As a result of the analysis, the number of articles related to infectious diseases peaked when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a warning and (suspicious) confirmed cases occurred. According to keyword and word cloud analysis, 'infectious disease outbreak and major epidemic areas', 'prevention authorities', and 'disease information and confirmed patient information' were found to be the main common features, and differences were derived from the three infectious diseases. In addition, the current status of the infodemic was identified by performing word cloud analysis on information in uncertainty. The results of this study are significant in that they were able to derive the roles of the health authorities and the media that should be preceded in the event of a new disease epidemic through previously experienced infectious diseases, and areas to be rearranged.

Factors influencing the behavioral beliefs to care for emerging infectious disease (COVID-19) patients (신종 감염병(COVID-19) 환자 간호의 행위 신념에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This is an investigative study to identify the degree of post-traumatic stress and anxiety of nurses in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to analyze the relationship with the nurse's belief in behavior and control that affects nursing intentions to determine their impact on the belief in behavior. The subjects of this study were nurses with experience of directly nursing COVID-19 patients at medical institutions located in Gyeonggi-do. The SPSS 22.0 version was used for the descriptive analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Post-traumatic stress of the participants in this study was found to be 24.20±20.58, anxiety 48.31±6.61, behavior beliefs -1.00±17.12, and control beliefs 3.41±11.66. According to this study, the belief in conduct is negatively correlated with post-traumatic stress (r=-4.71, p<).001) and showed a significant negative correlation with anxiety (r=-2.248, p<.05). There was no significant correlation with control beliefs (p>.05). Based on the results of this study, it is proposed to develop an appropriate psychological arbitration program for mediating post-traumatic stress in order to promote the nurse's behavior beliefs.

Statistical analysis of estimating incubation period distribution and case fatality rate of COVID-19 (COVID-19 바이러스 잠복 시간 분포 추정과 치사율 추정을 위한 생존 분석의 적용)

  • COVID-19 has been rapidly spread world wide since late December 2019. In this paper, our interest is to estimate distribution of incubation time defined as period between infection of virus and the onset. Due to the limit of accessibility and asymptomatic feature of COVID-19 virus, the exact infection and onset time are not always observable. For estimation of incubation time, interval censoring technique is implemented. Furthermore, a competing risk model is applied to estimate the case fatality and cure fraction. Based on the result, the mean incubation time is about 5.4 days and the fatality rate is higher for older and male patient and the cure rate is higher at younger,female and asymptomatic patient.

Classification of the presence or absence of underlying disease in EEG Data using neural network (뉴럴네트워크를 이용하여 EEG Data의 기저질환 유무 분류)

  • In January 2020, COVID19 plunged the whole planet into a pandemic. This has caused great economic losses and is causing social confusion. COVID19 has a superior infection rate among people with underlying disease such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, depression, and cancer. In addition, it was studied that patients with underlying disease had a higher fatality rate than those without underlying disease. In this study, the presence or absence of underlying disease was classified using EEG data. The data used to classify the presence or absence of underlying disease was EEG data provided by Data Science lab, consisting of 33 features and 69 samples. Z-score was used for data pretreatment. Classification was performed using the neural network NEWFM and ZNN engine. As a result of the classification of the presence or absence of the underlying disease, the experimental results were 77.945 for NEWFM and 76.4% for ZNN. Through this study, it is expected that EEG data can be measured, the presence or absence of an underlying disease is classified, and those with a high infection rate can be prevented from COVID19. Based on this, there is a need for research that can subdivide underlying disease in the future and research on the effects of each underlying disease on infectious disease.

The Economic Effect of E-Commerce during COVID-19: A Case Study through "H" Shopping Mall's Garlic Sales (COVID-19에 따른 전자상거래의 경제적 효과에 관한 연구: 'H' 쇼핑몰의 마늘 사례를 중심으로)

  • Through processors, wholesale markets, intermediate sellers, and retailers, agricultural products have been distributed in a multi-level customary manner for a long time as they are easy to deteriorate and no not have a standardized system of size and quality. However, with the advancement of Internet networks and logistic services during the 2000s that facilitated the development of offline markets, and the rise of the non-contact purchase preference in direct response to COVID-19, previous offline consumers flowed into the online market to purchase agricultural goods. In other words, the volume of online agricultural transactions exploded since the pandemic. Against this social backdrop, this study focused on the difference in distribution costs as a result of converting from conventional offline distribution channels to online channels, and analyzed the reduced distribution costs through a case study of garlic sales on the online platform "H" shopping mall. The analysis found that considerable economic effects occurred, some of the effects being an approximate 39% decrease in distribution cost when comparing direct online transactions of the online shopping mall with other more traditional means, a reduced distribution cost rate of approximately 28%p, and increased profit for farmers.
