A simulation modeling for predicting the harvesting date with high potato solids consists of development of mathematical models. The mathematical model on potato growth and its development should be obtained by using agricultural elements which analyze relations of solar radiation quantity, temperature, photon quantity, carbon dioxide exchange rate, water stress and loss, relative humidity, light intensity, and wind etc. But more reliable way to predict harvesting date against climatic change employs in vivo energy consumption for growth and induction shape in a slight environmental adaptation. Therefore, to calculate in vivo energy loss, we take a concept of estimate of the amount of basal metabolism in each tuber on the basis of $Wm={\int}^m_tf(x)dt$ and $Tp=\frac{Tm{\cdot}Wm^{Tp}}{Wm^{Tm}}$. In the validation experiments, results of measuring solid accumulation of potato harvested at simulated date agreed fairly well with the actual measured values in each regional field during the growth period of 2005-2009. The calculation method could be used to predict an appropriate harvesting date for a production of high potato solids according to weather conditions.

Since the emergence of domestically produced automobiles in 1964, the number of automobiles in circulation in South Korea has increased constantly. With this rapidly increasing number of automobiles, automobile-induced environmental pollution has become an issue of great concern, especially with regard to air pollution. Of the carbon composites contained in automobile exhaust gas, PAHs are known to be carcinogenic and highly deleterious to humans and thus need to be urgently mitigated. To address this issue of PAHs, this study was conducted to estimate qualitative of particulate PAHs contained in carbon composites in automobile exhaust gas, by capturing all particulate matter discharged from the latter. To allow for differentiated analyses, the automobiles investigated were divided into 4 groups: gasoline vehicle, motocycle, diesel vehicle, and LPG vehicle. Samples were analyzed using two methods. First, in-depth analysis was performed on organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) composites with analysis parameters, using the Thermal Optical Transmittance Method (NIOSH 5040). Second, for the examination of particulate PAHs, GC/MSD was used to analyze the 16 PAH species specified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The analyses yielded the findings that diesel vehicles had the highest mass concentration ($2,007{\mu}g/m^3$), followed by motocycle ($1,066{\mu}g/m^3$), LPG vehicle ($392{\mu}g/m^3$), and gasoline vehicles ($270{\mu}g/m^3$). The highest carbon concentrations in total particulate matter by vehicle weight were produced from LPG vehicle (79.8%), followed by gasoline vehicle (77.4%), motocycle (69.8%), and diesel vehicle (59.1%).

While the vertical open type of heat exchanger is more effective in areas of abundant groundwater, and is becoming more widely used, the heat exchanger most commonly used in geothermal heating and cooling systems in Korea is the vertical closed loop type. In this study, we performed numerical simulations of the optimal utilization of geothermal energy based on the hydrogeological and thermal properties to evaluate the efficiency of the vertical open type in areas of abundant groundwater supply. The first simulation indicated that the vertical open type using groundwater directly is more efficient than the vertical closed loop type in areas of abundant groundwater. Furthermore, a doublet system with separated injection and extraction wells was more efficient because the temperature difference (${\Delta}$) between the injection and extraction water generated by heat exchange with the ground is large. In the second simulation, we performed additional numerical simulations of the optimal utilization of geothermal energy that incorporated heat transfer, distance, flow rate, and groundwater hydraulic gradient targeting a single well, SCW (standing column well), and doublet. We present a flow diagram that can be used to select the optimal type of heat exchanger based on these simulation results. The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to examine the adequacy of the geothermal energy utilization system based on the hydrogeological and thermal properties of the area concerned, and also on a review of the COP (coefficient of performance) of the geothermal heating and cooling system.
In this study, the real on-road driving data were analyzed to draw the various characteristics related to idling of vehicles. The results revealed that the average idling time of a city bus corresponds to 30.9% of the total daily driving time. Among this, for about 21.6% of the total daily driving time, it is available that an engine can be halted while the vehicle stops. It is a daytime when the portion of time, for which idling stop is available, is peak. Due to idling stop, an increase of turnaround was not found throughout this analysis. When a city bus stops at a traffic right, idling periods were long enough to execute the idling stop, during which an engine halts. Whereas, during the idling time for bus stops, the idling periods were not so long enough to execute idling stop. Deceleration periods among the total turnarounds of a city bus occupies about 24.7%, during which, for about 30%, a deceleration maintains for more than four seconds. Thus, using the energy during deceleration period, which then can be recovered from braking energy, it was also found that a hybrid system can be effectively implemented to a city bus.
In 60 dairy cows with inactive ovaries, follicular cyst, luteal cyst, persistent corpus luteum and silent heat as diagnosed by rectal palpation, and those that had not resumed ovarian cycles until 60 days postpartum, progesterone concentrations for differential diagnosis of reproductive disorders were measured and were compared in matched plasma, skim milk and milk fat samples at 10 days interval. The incidence rate of reproductive disorders were as follows; inactive ovaries 20(33.3%), silent heat 11(18.3%), follicular cyst 7(11.7%), luteal cyst 7(11.7%), persistent corpus luteum 7(11.7%), pyometra 4(6.7%), vaginitis 2(3.3%), cystic corpus luteum 1(1.7%), and endometritis 1(1.7%), respectively. Cows having a progesterone concentration in plasma and skim milk < 1.0 ng/ml, and in milk fat < 80.0 ng/ml were considered to have inactive ovaries or follicular cyst. Those with concentrations in plasma and skim milk ${\geq}1.0ng/ml$, and in milk fat ${\geq}80.0ng/ml$ were regarded as the cases of luteal cyst or persistent corpus luteum. Progesterone concentrations in above cows did not differ significantly between the time of initial determination and the 10 days after initial determination. But progesterone concentrations in cows with silent heat did differ significantly between the time of initial determination and the 10 days after initial determination(P<0.05). The accuracy of rectal palpation for making a differential diagnosis of ovarian dysfunction, as defined on basis of progesterone concentrations, were as follows; follicular cyst 55.6%, luteal cyst 50.0%, inactive ovaries 90.5% and persistent corpus luteum 60.0%, respectively. It may be concluded that progesterone determinations at 10 days interval is practical as an aid to diagnosing ovarian dysfunction, particularly follicular cyst and luteal cyst.

In high-latitude regions, temperature has risen ($0.6^{\circ}C$ per decade) and this leads to the increase in microbial degradability against soil organic carbon (SOC). Furthermore, the decomposed SOC is converted into green-house gases ($CO_2$ and $CH_4$) and their release could further increase the rate of climate change. Thus, understanding the microbial diversity and their functions linked with SOC degradation in soil-thawing model is necessary. In this study, we divided tundra soil from Council, Alaska into two depth regions (30-40 cm and 50-60 cm of depth, designated as SPF and PF, respectively) and incubated that for 108 days at $0^{\circ}C$. A total of 111,804 reads were obtained through a pyrosequencing-based metagenomic study during the microcosm experiments, and 574-1,128 of bacterial operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and 30-57 of archaeal OTUs were observed. Taxonomic analysis showed that the distribution of bacterial taxa was significantly different between two samples. In detail, the relative abundance of phyla Actinobacteria and Firmicutes largely increased in SPF and PF soil, respectively, while phyla Crenarchaeota was increased in both soil samples. Weight measurement and gel permeation chromatography of the SOC extracts demonstrated that polymerization of humic acids, main component of SOC, occurred during the microcosm experiments. Taken together our results indicate that these bacterial and archaeal phyla could play a key function in SOC degradation and utilization in cold tundra soil.

The numerical simulations for groundwater flow were carried out to support the input parameters for safety assessment in LILW repository site. As the input parameters for safety assessment, the groundwater flux into the underground facilities during construction, flow rate through the disposal silo after closure of disposal silo and flow pathway from the disposal silo to discharge area were analyzed using the 10 cases groundwater flow simulations. From the total 10 numerical simulation results, the statistics of estimated output were similar to among 10 cases. In some cases, the analyzed input parameters were strongly governed by locally existed high permeable fracture zone at radioactive waste disposed depth. Indeed, numerical simulation for well scenario as a human intrusion scenario was carried out using the hydraulically severe case model. Using the results of well scenario, the input parameters for safety assessment were also obtained through the numerical simulation.
This study was carried out to determine the effect of swine liquid manure on the rice growth and yield in 2006. Field experiment was conducted under variable application rates; 100%, 120%, 150%, 180% N level of slurry based on 11 kg N 10a recommended amount of nitrogen. The experimental sites were located at Cheorwon in Gangwondo area. The results were summerized as follows; In the plot treated with swine liquid manure of 150% and 180% N levels, the plant height and tillers were higher, and the color of leaf was darker than that of 100% N level of swine liquid manure. Rice yield in the plot applied with 120% N slurry level was increased at 11%, but those of 150%, 180% N-level application plots were reduced 10, 19% compared to 100% N level, respectively. Rice quality of the 100 and 120% application plots of swine liquid manure was significantly better than those of 150 and 180% levels of application plots. Total nitrogen content in rice plant after harvesting was increased with increasing levels of swine liquid manure. The content of K in the soil was accumulated in plot treated with 150%, 180% slurry compared to control plot. The heavy metal contents in soils were not increased treated with swine liquid manure. The density of bacteria was low in the application plot of 180%N of liquid swine manure. The bacteria/fungi ratio was highest in 120% N level of liquid manure treatment.

The purpose of this study is to identify what are the common characteristics which enable the information management offices of research institutes to provide information services with their companies in effective ways, and furthur, in other to clarify what factors helf the improvement of effectiveness of information services. I have made on-the-spot investigations for the confirmation of present conditions of information service units of research institutes, their statistic data, and their managerial state. I have restricted my research to 36 information service units, as research targets, which are located in Changwon, Choongchong, and Kyongin areas as the reason mentioned in the introduction, and from their research data they keep, I have classified the top 10 information service units as Group A which show the most frequent use or application frequency of research data per a researcher, where as the lowerest 10 information service units are classified as Group B by the same evaluation of application frequency of their data. Then, the result of the comparision between Group A which provide high information services in effective ways and Group B which provide low information services with poor management leads me to identify the following characteristics in terms of the analyses of utilization of the data they process: 1. Those information service units in Group A have more volumes of books and information data, and annual increasing rates of books and informations are higher than those of Group B. 2. The regulations of book circulation in Group A are prescribed for the benefits of users, and if a long-term loan is not permitted, they are allowed to borrow more books at a time than in Group B. 3. The proportion of librarians to researchers is high, the librarians' career is long and their professional education background (the rate of librarians who majored in library science and information) is high In Group A. 4. Most of the directors of information service units are those who majored library science and information, and for the most part, librarians are promoted to the directors of information service units in Group A. 5. The information service units are managed directly under the directors of research institutes in their organization in Group A. 6. The information service units offer an education for information utilization to researchers as one of their managerial programs, and the contents of education are diverse, rich and informative in Group A. 7. The kinds of informations are various in Group A such as, SDI, prompt reports of contents of new informations, circulation of newly published publications, translation service, information analyses, critical reviews, etc. 8. The information service units in Group A have joined various cooperative systems which are aimed at cooperation, co-ownership of resources and informations. These findings lead me to argue that the hypothesis suggested in the introduction of this thesis has been proved without exception.
Following the previous study on the nutritional quantity of Al, Fe, and their interrelationships with other trace metals, this study was conducted to determine the effect of supplementation of Cu and Mn to fish meal-diets on the growth of Japanese eel. The feeding experiment to determine Cu requirement was conducted using white fish meal-diets supplemented with 0, 5, 10, or 20 $\mu$g/g cupric sulfate, and that to determine Mn requirement was conducted by suppling the diet with 0, 10, 20, or 40 $\mu$g/g manganese sulfate. The results revealed that the fish on diet annexed with 5 $\mu$g/g of Cu were observed to have the best growth among these groups. In case of Mn, 20 $\mu$g/g of supplementary level promoted growth rate and 40 $\mu$g/g of diet resulted in the highest feed efficiency. On the other hand, the highest level of Cu (20 $\mu$g/g), and Mn (40 $\mu$g/g) supplementary diets did not expressed adverse effect on growth. These results indicated that the suitable Cu and Mn supplementary concentrations are 20 $\mu$g/g and 30 $\mu$g/g of formulated the white fish meal-diet respectively. The white fish meal had 1.6 $\mu$g/g of Cu and 6.1 $\mu$g/g of Mn.
