Development of Syngas Production Technology from Liquid Waste Gasification (가스화반응을 이용한 액상폐기물의 합성가스 생산기술개발)

  • 본 연구에서는 액상폐기물의 가스화를 통하여 합성가스를 생산하는 공정기술에 관하여 고찰 하였다. 폐기물의 가스화공정기술은 공기, 산소등과 액상폐기물을 고온하에서 가스화반응시켜 폐기물중에 포함된 가연성성분은 CO, $H_2$가 주성분인 합성가스로 전환시키고, 폐기물내에 포함된 무기물은 용융시켜 slag의 형태로 배출시키는 기술이다. 폐기물투입장치, 가스화기 및 용융로, 슬랙배출장치, 합성가스 정제장치, 그리고 수처리장치등로 구성된 Bench급의 가스화용용시스템을 구성하고, 수분 16%, 발열량 4375kcal/kg의 액상폐기물을 가스화 실험한 결과 CO가 $31{\sim}35%$, $H_2$$28{\sim}36%$ 포함된 합성가스를 얻을 수 있었고, 합성가스의 발열량은 $1735{\sim}2160kcal/kg$로 나타났다. 또한 가스의 세정에 사용된 세정폐수의 분석과 무기물의 용융을 통하여 발생한 용용슬랙의 용출실험을 통해서 합성가스 생성과정에서의 이차오염 물질은 환경규제치 이하로 발생함을 확인할 수 있었다.

The Impacts of Operational Conditions on Charcoal Syngas Generation using a Modeling Approach (구동 조건에 따른 숯 합성가스 생산 효과 모델링)

  • 바이오매스 가스화는 세계적인 증가 추세에 있는 에너지 수요를 충족할 수 있는 기술 중의 하나이다. 바이오매스 가스화를 통해서 농업 폐기물 등 다양한 바이오매스 자원을 에너지로 전환할 수 있고 $CO_2$ 배출량 또한 줄일 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 COMSOL$^{(R)}$ 3.4 소프트웨어를 이용하여 바이오매스 원료와 운전 조건에 따른 가스화 효율 및 합성가스 조성의 변화를 분석하였다. 원료와 구동조건을 최적화하기 위해 가스화 모델을 세우고 원료와 구동조건을 달리하여 합성가스의 성분을 분석 및 예측하였다. 이 모델은 물리적인 실험을 통해 알고 있는 조건을 통해서 합성가스 성분을 시간에 따라 예측할 수 있다. 모델을 이용하여 함수비 5~30 %, 공기중 산소함량 5~50 %, 공기공급 유량 5~45 L/min, 온도 973~1273 K의 조건에서 합성가스의 성분을 예측한 결과 실제 실험 결과와 일치하는 것을 알 수 있다. 모델링 결과 양질의 합성가스를 생산하려면 원료의 회분함량이 적어야 하고 수소 함량이 높은 합성가스를 생산하려면 반응 온도가 높게 유지되고 원료의 함수비가 높아야 한다. 가스화장치의 온도를 높이면 합성가스의 성분 중 CO의 함량이 많아지고, CO의 함량이 많아지면 가스의 발열량이 높아지는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 CO의 농도가 높고 발열량이 높은 합성가스를 생산하기 위해서는 ER값은 작아야 한다.

Region-wide Road Transport CO2 Emission Inventory (지역단위 도로교통 탄소배출 인벤토리구축 방법론)

  • Due to its excessive $CO_2$ emissions, road transport sector becomes a target for emission reduction strategies. Although precise and reliable emissions inventories are necessary for evaluating plans and strategies, developing the region-wide inventory is a difficult task mainly because of a lack of data including travel patterns and modal volumes in the reginonal context. Most existing inventory methodologies employ fuel sale data within the target region, which ignores actual regional traffic patterns and thus not suited to its geographical context. To overcome these problems, this study develops region-wide $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology by utilizing the Korea Transport DB (KTDB). KTDB provides a number of useful information and data, such as road network with which one can identify in and out trips over the entire region, traffic volumes of various modes, distance of travel, travel speed and so on. A model of equations that allow the computation of volume of $CO_2$ emitting from the road transport activities within the target region is developed. Using the model, numerical analyses are performed for the case of Busan Metropolitan City to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model. This study is indeed exploratory in the sense that using the existing data, it develops the $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology which can produce better results than those from conventional fuel sales methodology. This study also suggests further reresarch directions to develop more refined methodologies in region-wide basis.

An Analysis of Changes in Air Pollutant Emissions Due to the Introduction of the Special Act on the Improvement of Air Quality in Port Areas -Focusing on Incheon Port (항만지역등 대기질 개선에 관한 특별법 도입에 따른 대기오염물질 배출량 변화 분석 -인천항을 중심으로 )

  • This study aims to analyze the effect of reducing air pollutant emissions of the ship fuel oil sulfur content regulation policy, which has been gradually introduced for three years. In addition, the emission reduction effect of VSR and AMP was also analyzed. The analysis was conducted on NOx, CO, VOC, SOx, TSP, PM10, and PM2.5, which are provided by EEA, and the spatial scope of the analysis was conducted on Incheon Port, which is located in the metropolitan area of Korea and has a large ripple effect on air pollution. Three scenarios were constructed for analysis. Scenario 1: If there is no policy, Scenario 2: If only fuel oil sulfur content regulation was implemented, Scenario 3: The analysis was conducted by reflecting fuel oil sulfur content regulation, VSR, and AMP. As a result of the analysis, in the case of scenario 1, 4,801 tons, 4,932 tons, and 5,144 tons of air pollutants were emitted during the three-year period. In Scenario 2, 4,219 tons, 4,152 tons, and 3,989 tons were discharged, and in Scenario 3, 4,198 tons, 4,138 tons, and 3,973 tons were discharged. The findings of this study are anticipated to be applied as fundamental research in port air environment management and Incheon Metropolitan City air management.

  • 기후변화에 관한 정부간 협의체(International Panel on Climate Change, IPCC) 4차 보고서에는 21세기말 지구의 평균기온이 최대 $6.4^{\circ}C$ 까지 더 상승할 것으로 전망하였다(IPCC, 2007). 지구의 평균온도는 지난 100년 동안 $0.74^{\circ}C$ 상승하였으며 그중 0.45%는 최근 25년간 상승한 것이며 이것은 지난 100년 보다 2.4배나 빠르게 상승하고 있는 추세이다. 우리나라의 경우 기온이 전 지구평균기온에 비해 2배 이상 높은 $1.5^{\circ}C$정도 상승 하였다. 또한 온실가스 증가 속도는 다른 나라에 비해 빠르게 진행되고 있으며, 1990년에서 지난 2001년간 다른 OECD국가들과 비교했을 때 가장 빠르게 증가하고 있을 뿐 아니라($CO_2$배출량은 OECD국가 중 10위) 현재와 같은 에너지 다소비형 산업구조와 소비패턴으로는 온실가스 배출량이 감소할 가능성은 낮은 것으로 분석된다. 따라서 우리나라의 경우 다른 국가에 비하여 기후변화에 취약한 위치에 있고 민감하게 반응함에 따라 미래 기후변화에 대한 영향은 우리나라 농업수자원에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 기상청에서 제공하는 MM5 기상자료를 이용하여 농업용저수지 필요저수량 변화를 예측하였다. MM5 기상자료는 충남 서산관측소 과거 관측자료를 이용하여 편의보정을 거쳐 재추출하였다. 생성된 자료는 물수지분석 입력 자료로 구축하여 충남에 위치한 고풍저수지에 대하여 필요저수량변화를 예측하였다. 그 결과 기온상승으로 인한 실재증발산량은 676mm에서 717mm로 41mm가 증가하였으며, 소비수량 또한 1,617mm에서 1,659mm로 42mm 증가하였다. 유효우량은 2020s는 520mm 이였으나 2080s는 533mm으로 13mm 증가한 것으로 분석되었다. 본 자료를 이용하여 고풍저수지의 필요저수량을 분석한 결과 2020s, 2050s, 2080s 각각 31.2%(3,538.9천$m^3$), 16.0%(1,489.7천$m^3$), 26.6%(2,834.5천$m^3$)가 부족한 것으로 예측되었다. 이는 강우량은 증가하나 기준년도에 비하여 5월 8월이 낮게 예측된 것이 가장 큰 원인으로 분석되었다. 따라서 소비수량은 증가하지만 유효유량의 부족으로 필요저수량이 부족한 것으로 예측되었다.

  • The world is moving towards a post-carbon society and needs clean and renewable energy for sustainable development. There are many methodological approaches which are helping this shift based on analyzed data about energy resources and which focus on limited types of energy including liquid fossil, solid fossil, gaseous fossil, and biomass (e.g. IPCC Guidelines, ISO 14064-1, WRI Protocol, etc.). We should also consider environmental impact (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions, water use, etc.) and the economic cost of the renewable energy to make a better decision. Recently, researchers have addressed the environmental impact of new technologies which include photovoltaics, wind turbines, hydroelectric power, and biofuel. In this work, we analyze the environmental impact with a carbon emission factor to present a correlation between $CO_2$ emission and the cost of energy resources standardized by the energy output. In addition, we reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as another methodology. Researchers who are studying energy systems have ignored the impacts of entire energy systems, e.g. the extraction and processing of fossil fuels. In power sector, the assessment should include extraction, processing, and transportation of fuels, building of power plants, production of electricity, and waste disposal. Therefore LCA could be more suitable tool for energy cost and environmental impact estimation.

The Effects of Eco-friendly Design of Dishwashing Detergent on Product's Carbon Emission Reduction (친환경 설계로 제조된 주방세제의 탄소배출량 감축 효과)

  • As negative effects of climate change have been visualized and its direct damages to economy have been realized, the global efforts to respond to climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emission were accelerated. Korea's Carbon Footprint Labeling gets a lot of attention as one of the effective methods to contribute to national GHG reduction goal, and for enterprises to show customers how much effort the company put into global warming prevention. Consumers' interest on low-carbon products has been increasing. This study uses Life Cycle Assessment method to calculate the amount of carbon emission of dishwashing detergent, LG Household & Healthcare, which reduced carbon emissions by using raw materials that has relatively lower environment load. Life Cycle Assessment Method is based on guidelines of Carbon Footprint Labeling, Ministry of Environment, and pre-manufacturing, manufacturing, and disposal phase are included while use phase of the product is excluded from assessment. In order to understand the effects of eco-design on carbon emissions, the dishwashing detergent's carbon emissions are compared before and after the change of main raw materials. The result shows the improvement from $0.47kgCO_2eq/kg$ to $0.38kgCO_2eq/kg$ per product, and this means the main raw materials' carbon emissions could be reduced by around 9.4%, which is equivalent to 916tons of GHG emissions per year.

  • Reduction of CO2 emissions is an important issue in the steel industry, and the research on carbon materials that can partially replace cokes is necessary to reduce CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, the biomass fuel contains some fixed carbon, and the carbon content in the biomass can be increased by torrefaction. As one of the biomass fuels, coffee grounds contains about 55 mass% of carbon, and its about 270,000 tons are landfilled and incinerated annually in Korea. In addition, research on the recycling process due to the increase in annual coffee consumption is required. In this study, the effect of temperature on the concentration of fixed carbon in coffee grounds was investigated during torrefaction. Moreover, the effects of mixing ratio of torrefied coffee grounds with cokes on the carbon concentration and dissolution efficiency in the metal sample were investigated.

Trends and Characteristics in SF6 Emission Reduction Technology of Electrical Equipment (전력설비에서의 SF6 저감기술 동향 및 특성 분석)

  • Sulfur hexafloride($SF_6$) emission to atmosphere is lower than $CO_2$, but $SF_6$ GWP is 22,800 times lager than $CO_2$. In recent years as restriction of $non-CO_2$ gas has been greatly reinforced, development of environment-friendly technology with $SF_6$ removal is becoming to main issue. This study shows that $SF_6$ used insulator electrical equipment has emission characteristics during the each phase(maintenance, use, diposal), and analyzed $SF_6$ emission reduction technology related phase. The major technology applies maintenance and disposal step is that improvment of gas recovery rate($85{\rightarrow}99%$), manufacturing catalysts, internal inspection of circuit breaker using endoscopy. Using those technolgies can reduce $SF_6$ emission in atmosphere.

Available Transfer Capability Evaluation Considering CO2 Emissions Using Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (CO2 배출량을 고려한 가용송전용량 계산에 관한 연구)

  • Under the Kyoto Protocol many countries have been requested to participate in emissions trading with the assigned $CO_2$ emissions. In this environment, it is inevitable to change the system and market operation in deregulated power systems, and then ensuring safety margin is becoming more important for balancing system security, economy and $CO_2$ emissions. Nowadays, available transfer capability (ATC) is a key index of the remaining capability of a transmission system for future transactions. This paper presents a novel approach to the ATC evaluation with $CO_2$ emissions using multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) technique. This technique evolves a multi-objective version of PSO by proposing redefinition of global best and local best individuals in multi-objective optimization domain. The optimal power flow (OPF) method using MOPSO is suggested to solve multi-objective functions including fuel cost and $CO_2$ emissions simultaneously. To show its efficiency and effectiveness, the results of the proposed method is comprehensively realized by a comparison with the ATC which is not including $CO_2$ emissions for the IEEE 30-bus system, and is found to be quite promising.
