  • Recently, various researches on the utilization of carbon nanotube(CNT) with superior electrical conductivity and large surface areas into concrete have been actively conducted. Thus, mechanical and thermal properties of cement-flyash composites were evaluated concerning the CNT replacements. Based on the low binder-to-water ratio, the cement composites were produced with 0.2 % and 0.5 % of CNT solids. The compressive strengths with various ages, isothermal calorimetry measurement, SEM analysis, thermal conductivity of cement composites and thermal gravimetry analysis were implemented. As the amount of CNT addition was increased, the thermal conductivity of cement composites were also increased. Also, there was no significant mechanical property differences between mixtures with and without CNTs.

  • In this study, we study fabrication methods suitable for CNT fibers-based composite. We try to fabricate a composite material using a small amount of CNT fiber preparation of woven fabrics or stitched unidirectional fabrics consisting of CNT fiber is not achievable currently. The composite materials on the basis of CNT fibers have been mainly manufactured filament winding method due to productivity issues and difficulties in composite processes. We develop a new method to prepare CNT fibers-based composite using resin infiltrated CNT fibers-based films. Because CNT fibers have numerous nanopores inside, unnecessary resin can remain after curing and decrease the mechanical properties of the composites. To remove the excess resin, pressure should be applied during the process, but the pressure applied through VaRTM was not enough to remove the excess resin. To obtain the composite with high ratio of CNT fibers, higher pressure using hot press machine and foams next to the resin-infiltrated CNT fibers are necessary. We can obtain the composite having a mass ratio of 58.5 wt% based on the new suggested method and diluted epoxy. The specific strength of the composite reach 0.525 N/tex. This study presents a new process method that can be applied to the manufacturing of CNT fiber composite materials in the future.

  • We investigated the electrooptical properties of a carbon nanotube (CNT)-doped nematic liquid crystal (LC) cell. Experimental results reveal that the doped CNTs influence the elastic constant of LC-CNT dispersion. Using a small amount of CNT dopant, the rise time of the LC cell is nearly invariant; the threshold voltage of the cell increases due to the increase in the elastic constant of LC-CNT dispersion. At a higher CNT concentration, the marked increase in the dielectric anisotropy of LC-CNT dispersion markedly decreases the rise time and threshold voltage of the LC cell. The fall time of this cell decreases with increasing CNT concentration due to the increase in elastic constant and the slight increase in viscosity of LC-CNT dispersion. The rise time and the fall time of the LC cell are decreased simultaneously when the LC host is doped with a moderate amount of CNT dopant.

  • In this study, a surface treatment method using accelerated Ar ions was experimented for exposing the carbon nanotubes (CNT) from the screen-printed CNT paste. After making a cathode electrode on the glass substrate, photo sensitive CNT paste was screen-printed, and then back-side was exposed by UV light. Then, the exposed CNT paste was selectively remained by development. After post-baking, the remained CNT paste was bombarded by accelerated Ar ions for removing some binders and exposing only CNTs. As results, the field emission characteristics were strongly depended on the accelerating energy, bombardment time, and the power of RF plasma ion source. When Ar ions accelerated with 100 eV energy from the 100 W RF plasma source are bombarded on the CNT paste surface for 10 min, the emission level and the uniformity were best.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNT) were synthesized by arc-discharge method. To fabricate CNT sensor, CNT powder was dispersed in $\alpha$-Terpinol($C_{10}$ $H_{17}$OH) solution. The CNT films were fabricated by screen printing on the interdigitated Pt/Pd alloy electrode. The microstructure of CNT film were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In order to investigate the gas sensing characteristics of the film, the CNT film was experimented to measure NH$_3$ response and recovery time. And this sensor shows better reproductibility and faster recovery time than another CNT sensors. We suggest the possibility to utilize a CNT as new sensing materials for environmental monitoring.

  • A nanoelectromechanical (NEM) switching device based on carbon nanotube (CNT) was investigated using atomistic simulations. The model schematics for a CNT based three-terminal NEM switching device fabrication were presented. for the CNT-based three-terminal NEM switch, the interactions between the CNT-lever and the drain electrode or the substrate were very important. When the electrostatic force applied to the CNT-lever was the critical point, the CNT-lever was rapidly bent because of the attractive foroe between the CNT-lever and the drain. The energy curves for the pull-in and the pull-out processes showed the hysteresis loop that was induced by the adhesion of the CNT on the copper, which was the interatomic interaction between the CNT and the copper.

  • A carbon-based hybrid resistor was fabricated using carbon nanotube (CNT) paste as an adhesive layer to establish electrically continuous ohmic contacts between CNT sheets and different CNT sheet or copper based metal alloy plates, and its electrical properties were evaluated. CNT sheets were fabricated using vacuum filtration with a CNT solution dispersed in isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solvent. The electrical characteristics of these carbon-based hybrid resistors were investigated. The CNT paste fulfilled the requirements for forming ohmic contacts between CNT sheets and metal alloy plates, which was attributed to the lowest work function difference and excellent wettability at the interface.

  • In this study, the moisture absorption behaviors of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites were investigated along with exposure temperature and time. The tensile properties of the specimens were evaluated to identify the effect of absorbed moisture on the mechanical properties. The exposure temperatures of $25^{\circ}C$ and $75^{\circ}C$ were considered and the exposure time up to 600 hours was applied. According to the results, moisture absorption rate was increased as CNT content and exposure temperature were increased. The rate of decrease in tensile strength of the CNT reinforced unsaturated polyester composites was reduced due to the reinforcing effect of CNT compared to the unsaturated polyester resin.

  • The ITO/Cabon Nano Tube (CNT) nano composites were deposited by nano cluster deposition (ITO) and arc discharge deposition (CNT) on glass substrates. The structural, optical and photovoltaic performance of ITO/CNT nano composites as a counter electrode of dye-sensitized solar-cells (DSSCs) such films were investigated. At low temperature below $250^{\circ}C$, the ITO films deposited on CNT. The ITO/CNT nano composit showed a good optical and electrical property for the counter electrode of DSSCs. When the as-prepared ITO/CNT nano composites are used for the counter electrodes, the photovoltaic parameters are $V_{OC}$ = 0.69 V, $J_{SC}$ = 5.69 mA/$cm^2$, FF = 0.32, and $\eta$ = 0.53 %. The ITO/CNT nano composites showed the possibility for the counter electrode applications of DSSCs.

  • We investigate a method for the electrochemical preparation of titanium dioxide/carbon nanotube ($TiO_2$/CNT) composites involving the electroplating of Ti in a titanium n-butoxide (TNB) electrolyte into a CNT matrix. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas of $TiO_2$/CNT composites decrease as the electrochemical operating time increases. Changes in XRD patterns show a typical anatase type on the $TiO_2$/CNT composite prepared with a CNT matrix by the electroplating method in a TNB solution. In SEM micrographs, the titanium complex particles are uniformly distributed on the CNT surface. The results of chemical elemental analysis for the $TiO_2$/CNT composites show that most of the spectra for these samples produce stronger peaks for carbon and Ti metal than for any other element. Finally, the prominent photoelectrocatalytic activities of the $TiO_2$/CNT composites can be attributed to the combined effects of photodegradation of $TiO_2$, electron assistance of CNT, and the application of a sufficient voltage.
