Although benign gastric ulcers do not develop into gastric cancer, they are similar to early gastric cancer and difficult to distinguish. This may lead to misconsider early gastric cancer as gastric ulcer while diagnosing. Since gastric cancer does not have any special symptoms until discovered, it is important to detect gastric ulcers by early gastroscopy to prevent the gastric cancer. Therefore, we developed a Convolution Neural Network (CNN) model that can be helpful for endoscopy. 3,015 images of gastroscopy of patients undergoing endoscopy at Gachon University Gil Hospital were used in this study. Using ResNet-50, three models were developed to classify normal and gastric ulcers, normal and gastric cancer, and gastric ulcer and gastric cancer. We applied the data augmentation technique to increase the number of training data and examined the effect on accuracy by varying the multiples. The accuracy of each model with the highest performance are as follows. The accuracy of normal and gastric ulcer classification model was 95.11% when the data were increased 15 times, the accuracy of normal and gastric cancer classification model was 98.28% when 15 times increased likewise, and 5 times increased data in gastric ulcer and gastric cancer classification model yielded 87.89%. We will collect additional specific shape of gastric ulcer and cancer data and will apply various image processing techniques for visual enhancement. Models that classify normal and lesion, which showed relatively high accuracy, will be re-learned through optimal parameter search.

In this paper, we propose both Dense grid model and Anchor model to improve the recognition rate of dynamic objects. Two experiments are conducted to study the performance of two proposed CNNs models (Dense grid model and Anchor model), which are to detect dynamic objects. In the first experiment, YOLO-v2 network is adjusted, and then fine-tuned on KITTI datasets. The Dense grid model and Anchor model are then compared with YOLO-v2. Regarding to the evaluation, the two models outperform YOLO-v2 from 6.26% to 10.99% on car detection at different difficulty levels. In the second experiment, this paper conducted further training of the models on a new dataset. The two models outperform YOLO-v2 up to 22.40% on car detection at different difficulty levels.

Recently, with the development of computer vision and deep learning technology, research on human action recognition has been actively conducted for video analysis, video surveillance, interactive multimedia, and human machine interaction applications. Diverse techniques have been introduced for human action understanding and classification by many researchers using RGB image, depth image, skeleton and inertial data. However, skeleton-based action discrimination is still a challenging research topic for human machine-interaction. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end skeleton joints mapping of action for generating spatio-temporal image so-called dynamic image. Then, an efficient deep convolution neural network is devised to perform the classification among the action classes. We use publicly accessible UTD-MHAD skeleton dataset for evaluating the performance of the proposed method. As a result of the experiment, the proposed system shows better performance than the existing methods with high accuracy of 97.45%.
Planetary global localization is necessary for long-range rover missions in which communication with command center operator is throttled due to the long distance. There has been number of researches that address this problem by exploiting and matching rover surroundings with global digital elevation maps (DEM). Using conventional methods for matching, however, is challenging due to artifacts in both DEM rendered images, and/or rover 2D images caused by DEM low resolution, rover image illumination variations and small terrain features. In this work, we use train CNN discriminator to match rover 2D image with DEM rendered images using conditional Generative Adversarial Network architecture (cGAN). We then use this discriminator to search an uncertainty bound given by visual odometry (VO) error bound to estimate rover optimal location and orientation. We demonstrate our network capability to learn to translate rover image into DEM simulated image and match them using Devon Island dataset. The experimental results show that our proposed approach achieves ~74% mean average precision.

In this paper, to improve the classification accuracy of bird and amphibian acoustic sound, we utilize GLU (Gated Linear Unit) and Self-attention that encourages the network to extract important features from data and discriminate relevant important frames from all the input sequences for further performance improvement. To utilize acoustic data, we convert 1-D acoustic data to a log-Mel spectrogram. Subsequently, undesirable component such as background noise in the log-Mel spectrogram is reduced by GLU. Then, we employ the proposed temporal self-attention to improve classification accuracy. The data consist of 6-species of birds, 8-species of amphibians including endangered species in the natural environment. As a result, our proposed method is shown to achieve an accuracy of 91 % with bird data and 93 % with amphibian data. Overall, an improvement of about 6 % ~ 7 % accuracy in performance is achieved compared to the existing algorithms.
The image obtained from systems such as autonomous driving cars or fire-fighting robots often suffer from several degradation such as noise, motion blur, and compression artifact due to multiple factor. It is difficult to apply image recognition to these degraded images, then the image restoration is essential. However, these systems cannot recognize what kind of degradation and thus there are difficulty restoring the images. In this paper, we propose the deep neural network, which restore natural images from images degraded in several ways such as noise, blur and JPEG compression in situations where the distortion applied to images is not recognized. We adopt the channel attention modules and skip connections in the proposed method, which makes the network focus on valuable information to image restoration. The proposed method is simpler to train than other methods, and experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.
In this study, we modified CT images of femoral head in consideration of anatomically meaningful structure, proposing the method to augment the training data of convolution Neural network for segmentation of femur mesh model. First, the femur mesh model is obtained from the CT image. Then divide the mesh model into meaningful parts by using cluster analysis on geometric characteristic of mesh surface. Finally, transform the segments by using an appropriate mesh deformation algorithm, then create new CT images by warping CT images accordingly. Deep learning models using the data enhancement methods of this study show better image division performance compared to data augmentation methods which have been commonly used, such as geometric conversion or color conversion.

This paper implements a method of extracting an object about a dog through real-time image analysis and classifying dog behaviors from the extracted images. The Darknet YOLO was used to detect dog objects, and the Teachable Machine provided by Google was used to classify behavior patterns from the extracted images. The trained Teachable Machine is saved in Google Drive and can be used by ml5.js implemented on a node.js server. By implementing an interactive web server using a socket.io module on the node.js server, the classified results are transmitted to the user's smart phone or PC in real time so that it can be checked anytime, anywhere.

The purpose of this study is to classify TIFF images, PNG images, and JPEG images using deep learning, and to compare the accuracy by verifying the classification performance. The TIFF, PNG, and JPEG images converted from chest X-ray DICOM images were applied to five deep neural network models performed in image recognition and classification to compare classification performance. The data consisted of a total of 4,000 X-ray images, which were converted from DICOM images into 16-bit TIFF images and 8-bit PNG and JPEG images. The learning models are CNN models - VGG16, ResNet50, InceptionV3, DenseNet121, and EfficientNetB0. The accuracy of the five convolutional neural network models of TIFF images is 99.86%, 99.86%, 99.99%, 100%, and 99.89%. The accuracy of PNG images is 99.88%, 100%, 99.97%, 99.87%, and 100%. The accuracy of JPEG images is 100%, 100%, 99.96%, 99.89%, and 100%. Validation of classification performance using test data showed 100% in accuracy, precision, recall and F1 score. Our classification results show that when DICOM images are converted to TIFF, PNG, and JPEG images and learned through preprocessing, the learning works well in all formats. In medical imaging research using deep learning, the classification performance is not affected by converting DICOM images into any format.
