In this paper, we present a highly-sensitive gate/body-tied (GBT) metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET)-type photodetector using multi-finger structure whose photocurrent increases in proportion to the number of fingers. The drain current that flows through a MOSFET using multi-finger structure is proportional to the number of fingers. This study intends to confirm that the photocurrent of a GBT MOSFET-type photodetector that uses the proposed multi-finger structure is larger than the photocurrent per unit area of the existing GBT MOSFET-type photodetectors. Analysis and measurement of a GBT MOSFET-type photodetector that utilizes a multi-finger structure confirmed that photocurrent increases in ratio to the number of fingers. In addition, the characteristics of the photocurrent in relation to the optical power were measured. In order to determine the influence of the incident the wavelength of light, the photocurrent was recorded as the incident the wavelength of light varied over a range of 405 to 980 nm. A highly-sensitive GBT MOSFET-type photodetector with multi-finger structure was designed and fabricated by using the Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company (TSMC) complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) 0.18 um 1-poly 6-metal process and its characteristics have been measured.
This study introduces an efficient readout circuit designed for two-electrode electrocardiogram (ECG) recording, characterized by its low-noise and low-power consumption attributes. Unlike its three-electrode counterpart, the two-electrode ECG is susceptible to common-mode interference (CMI), causing signal distortion. To counter this, the proposed circuit integrates a common-mode charge pump (CMCP) with a window comparator, allowing for a CMI tolerance of up to 20 VPP. The CMCP design prevents the activation of electrostatic discharge (ESD) diodes and becomes operational only when CMI surpasses the predetermined range set by the window comparator. This ensures power efficiency and minimizes intermodulation distortion (IMD) arising from switching noise. To maintain ECG signal accuracy, the circuit employs a chopper-stabilized instrumentation amplifier (IA) for low-noise attributes, and to achieve high input impedance, it incorporates a floating high-pass filter (HPF) and a current-feedback instrumentation amplifier (CFIA). This comprehensive design integrates various components, including a QRS peak detector and serial peripheral interface (SPI), into a single 0.18-㎛ CMOS chip occupying 0.54 mm2. Experimental evaluations showed a 0.59 µVRMS noise level within a 1-100 Hz bandwidth and a power draw of 23.83 µW at 1.8 V.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effect of flight height, flight speed, exposure time of camera shutter and autofocusing on the visual resolution of the image in order to obtain ultra-high resolution images with a GSD less than 1cm. It is also aimed to evaluate the ease of recognition of various types of aerial targets. For this purpose, we measured the visual resolution using a 7952*5304 pixel 35mm CMOS sensor and a 55mm prime lens at 20m intervals from 20m to 120m above ground. As a result, with automatic focusing, the visual resolution is measured 1.1~1.6 times as the theoretical GSD, and without automatic focusing, 1.5~3.5 times. Next, the camera was shot at 80m above ground at a constant flight speed of 5m/s, while reducing the exposure time by 1/2 from 1/60sec to 1/2000sec. Assuming that blur is allowed within 1 pixel, the visual resolution is 1.3~1.5 times larger than the theoretical GSD when the exposure time is kept within the longest exposure time, and 1.4~3.0 times larger when it is not kept. If the aerial targets are printed on A4 paper and they are shot within 80m above ground, the encoded targets can be recognized automatically by commercial software, and various types of general targets and coded ones can be manually recognized with ease.
Recently mobile users can access to internet using smart phone at any place and any time, through which they can search and share information. In addition, as the sensors with high-tech functions become cheaper and miniaturized along with the development of MEMS (micro-electo mechanical systems) technology, the extent to utilize smart phone is increasing. Smart phone is equipped with various sensors such as high-resolution camera, GPS, gyroscope and magnetic sensor, which is an appropriate system configuration for remote monitoring research using camera. The remote monitoring system requires camera for video and internet network to send video, for which it has a limitation that it is influenced by the monitoring location. This study is aimed to design and develop the monitoring app. which can be remotely monitored using smart phone technology. The developed monitoring app was designed to take images of ROI (region of interest) within the specified time and to automatically send the images to the server. The developed app. is also possible to be remotely controlled by SMS (short message service). The monitoring proposed in this study can take high-resolution images using CMOS built in the smart phone and send the images and information to the server automatically at any place and any time using 3G and Wi-Fi networks.

This paper proposes a $10\;{\mu}m$ thick oxide air-bridge structure which can be used as a substrate for RF circuits. The structure was fabricated by anodic reaction, complex oxidation and micromachining technology using TMAH etching. High quality films were obtained by combining low temperature thermal oxidation ($500^{\circ}C$, 1 hr at $H_2O/O_2$) and rapid thermal oxidation (RTO) process ($1050^{\circ}C$, 2 min). This structure is mechanically stable because of thick oxide layer up to $10\;{\mu}m$ and is expected to solve the problem of high dielectric loss of silicon substrate in RF region. The properties of the transmission line formed on the oxidized porous silicon (OPS) air-bridge were investigated and compared with those of the transmission line formed on the OPS layers. The insertion loss of coplanar waveguide (CPW) on OPS air-bridge was (about 2dB) lower than that of CPW on OPS layers. Also, the return loss of CPW on OPS air-bridge was less than about -20 dB at measured frequency region for 2.2 mm. Therefore, this technology is very promising for extending the use of CMOS circuitry to higher RF frequencies.

This paper reports the test results of a 50MHz/s 10 bits DAC developed with $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process for the wireless sensor network application. The 10bits DAC, not likely a typical segmented type, has been designed as a current driving type with double step thermometer decoding architecture in which 10bits are divided into 6bits of MSB and 4bits of LSB. MSB 6bits are converted into 3 bits row thermal codes and 3 bits column thermal codes to control high current cells, and LSB 4 bits are also converted into thermal codes to control the lower current cells. The high and the lower current cells use the same cell size while a bias circuit has been designed to make the amount of lower unit current become 1/16 of high unit current. All thermal codes are synchronized with output latches to prevent glitches on the output signals. The test results show that the DAC consumes 4.3mA DC current with 3.3V DC supply for 2.2Vpp output at 50MHz clock. The linearity characteristics of DAC are the maximum SFDR of 62.02dB, maximum DNL of 0.37 LSB, and maximum INL of 0.67 LSB.

Various kinds of medical imaging devices have been studied to develop periapical radiography. However, there are some problems such as high x-ray exposure rate and pains for patients because of the problems caused by intra-oral sensor based radiography system. In this study, a new concept of periapical radiography, intra oral X-ray tube and detector system, is introduced to solve these problems. This system is made up of miniature X-ray tube based on subminiature thermal electron or cold electron, CMOS based detector, and a body including automatic position and system control devices. In order to confirm the possibility of proposed new concept to periapical radiography, miniature x-ray tube from XOFT corporation is used to develop new x-ray system, and the performance evaluation of this system is performed according to collimator. Also, dental images are compared after acquiring both images from existing system versus new concept of system. As a result, new concept of system showed excellent image. Thus, it is considered that new concept of system will have a significant effect on medical imaging technology.

In this paper, a unified potentiostat which can measure the current of both $O_2$-based and $H_2O_2$-based blood glucose sensors with low supply voltage of 1.0V has been designed and verified by simulations and measurements. Potentiostat is composed of low-voltage operational transconductance amplifier, cascode current mirrors and mode-selection circuits. It can measure currents of blood glucose chemical reactions occurred by $O_2$ or $H_2O_2$. The body of PMOS input differentional stage of the operational transconductance amplifier is forward-biased to reduce the threshold voltage for low supply voltage operation. Also, cascode current mirror is used to reduce current measurement error generated by channel length modulation effects. The proposed low-voltage potentiostat is designed and simulated using Cadence SPECTRE and fabricated in Magnachip 0.18um CMOS technology with chip size of $110{\mu}m{\times}60{\mu}m$. The measurement results show that consumption current is maximum $46{\mu}A$ at supply voltage of 1.0V. Using the persian potassium($K_3Fe(CN)_6$) equivalent to glucose, the operation of the fabricated potentiostat was confirmed.
Venous puncture is widely used to obtain blood samples for pathological examination. Because the invasive venipuncture method using a needle is repeatedly performed, the pain suffered by the patient increases, so our research team pre-developed a miniaturized near-infrared (NIR) imaging system in advance. To improve the image quality of the acquired NIR images, this study aims to model the non-local means (NLM) algorithm, which is well known to be efficient in noise reduction, and analyze its applicability in the system. The developed NIR imaging system is based on the principle that infrared rays pass through dichroic and long-pass filters and are detected by a CMOS sensor module. The proposed NLM algorithm is modeled based on the principle of replacing the pixel from which noise is to be removed with a value that reflects the distances between surrounding pixels. After acquiring an NIR image with a central wavelength of 850 nm, the NLM algorithm was applied to segment the final vein area through histogram equalization. As a result, the coefficient of variation of the NIR image of the vein using the NLM algorithm was 0.247 on average, which was an excellent result compared to conventional filtering methods. In addition, the dice similarity coefficient value of the NLM algorithm was improved by 62.91 and 9.40%, respectively, compared to the median filter and total variation methods. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the NLM algorithm can acquire accurate segmentation of veins acquired with a NIR imaging system.

The devices based on electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) structure are proposed for the detection of external electric charges. A large size charge contact window (CCW) extended from the floating gate is employed to immobilize external charges, and a control gate with stacked metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor is adapted for a standard single polysilicon CMOS process. When positive voltage is applied to the capacitor of CCW of an n-channel EEPROM, the drain current increases due to the negative shift of its threshold voltage. Also when a pre-charged external capacitor is directly connected to the floating gate metal of CCW, the positive charges of the external capacitor make the drain current increase for n-channel, whereas the negative charges cause it to decrease. For an p-channel, however, the opposite behaviors are observed by the external voltage and charges. With the attachment of external charges to the CCW of EEPROM inverter, the characteristic inverter voltage behavior shifts from the reference curve dependent on external charge polarity. Therefore, we have demonstrated that the EEPROM inverter is capable of detecting external immobilized charges on the floating gate. and these devices are applicable to sensing the pH's or biomolecular reactions.
