The study examined BMIs, physical strength, activities, and the attitudes and behavior toward weight control among 7,968 Korean students{2,435 5th graders from elementary schools(ESs), 2,524 2nd graders from middle schools(MSs), 2,739 2nd graders from high schools(HSs)} nationwide. Compared to the 1987 data, there were increases of height(3-6cm) and weight(3-8kg), but decreases of physical strength and exercise. Lack of 'regular exercise' among girls from MSs and HSs and higher proportion of time spent on watching TV and using a computer for elementary schoolers were particularly noticeable. Proportions of students who were satisfied with their body weight were 49% for ESs, 35% for MSs, and 29% for HSs. There was no relationship between subjective and objective evaluations of body weight. Diet rather than exercise was more frequently chosen as a method of weight control. Compared to boys, girls showed stronger association between the amount of exercise and the subjective body weight in MSs and HSs, however this association was not found for the subjects from HSs. Values for the 50th percentile of BMI of boys and girls were 18.4 and 17.7 for ESs, 19.9 and 20.1for MSs, and 21.4 and 20.6 for HSs. In MSs and HSs, boys with BMI between 15th to 85th percentiles were physically stronger than those whose BMIs were lower than 15th kor higher than 85th percentiles. For the other groups, there was a trend of a positive relationship between BMI and physical strength. Based on the analyses of BMI and physical strength, this study suggests 22 and 21 for upper grades in ESs, 24 and 23 for MSs, and 27 and 25 for HSs as the respective cut off points of BMI for weight control n boys and girls. A need for implementing nutrition education program focused on weight control is also suggested.

The influences of ZrB$_2$ additions to SiC on microstructural, DDM(Electrical Discharge Machining), mechanical and electrical properties were investigated. composites were prepared by adding 15, 30, 45 vol.% ZrB$_2$particles as a second phase to SiC matrix. SiC-ZrB$_2$ composites obtained by hot pressing for high temperature structural application were fully dense with the relative densities over 99%. The fracture toughness of the composites were increased with the ZrB$_2$contents. In case of composite containing 30vol.% ZrB$_2$, the flexural strength and fracture toughness showed 45% and 60% increase, respectively compared to that of monolithic SiC sample. The electrical resistivities of SiC-ZrB$_2$ composites decreased significantly with the ZrB$_2$ contents. The electrical resistivity of SiC-30vol.% ZrB$_2$ composite showed 6.50$\times$10$^{-4}$$\Omega$.cm. Cutting velocity of EDM of SiC-ZrB$_2$ composites are directly proportional to duty factor of pulse width. Surface roughness, however, are not all proportional to pulse width. Higher-flexural strength composites show a trend toward smaller crater volumes, leaving a smoother surface; the average surface roughness of the SiC-ZrB$_2$ 15 vol.% composite with the flexural strengthe of 375㎫ was 3.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, whereas the SiC-ZrB$_2$ 30.vol% composite of 457㎫ was 1.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In the SEM micrographs of the fracture surface of SiC-ZrB$_2$ composites, the SiC-ZrB$_2$ two phases are distinct; the white phase is the ZrB$_2$and the gray phase is the SiC matrix. In the SEM micrographs of the EDM surface, however, these phases are no longer distinct because of thicker recast layer of resolidified-melt-formation droplets present. It is shown that SiC-ZrB$_2$ composites are able to be machined without surface cracking.

Transparent and conducting thin films of Ta-doped $SnO_2$ were fabricated on a glass substrate by a pulse laser deposition(PLD) method. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of these films were investigated as a function of doping level, oxygen partial pressure, substrate temperature, and film thickness. XRD results revealed that all the deposited films were polycrystalline and the intensity of the (211) plane of $SnO_2$ decreased with an increase of Ta content. However, the orientation of the films changed from (211) to (110) with an increase in oxygen partial pressure (40 to 100 mTorr) and substrate temperature. The crystallinity of the films also increased with the substrate temperature. The electrical resistivity measurements showed that the resistivity of the films decreased with an increase in Ta doping, which exhibited the lowest resistivity (${\rho}{\sim}1.1{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) for 10 wt% Ta-doped $SnO_2$ film, and then increased further. However, the resistivity continuously decreased with the oxygen partial pressure and substrate temperature. The optical bandgap of the 10 wt% Ta-doped $SnO_2$ film increased (3.67 to 3.78 eV) with an increase in film thickness from 100-700 nm, and the figure of merit revealed an increasing trend with the film thickness.

The present work considers the concept of enzymatic photoelectrochemical generation of hydrogen through water splitting using a Xe lamp as a source of light. A solar cell was applied to the system in order to shift the level of electrochemical energy of the system, resulting in the rate of hydrogen production at $43\;{\mu}mol/(cm^2{\times}hr)$ in cathodic compartment with an anodized tubular $TiO_2$ electrode(ATTE, $5^{\circ}C$/1hr in 0.5 wt% HF-$650^{\circ}C$/5hr). The trend of the rate of hydrogen production, for the ATTEs with different annealing temperature from $350^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$, fairly well coincided with the photoelectrical properties measured by potentiostat. The actual chemical bias through imposition of two electrolytes of different pHs between anode(13.68) and cathode(7.5) was 0.24eV.
To study the full health effects of parental radiation exposure on the children of the atomic bomb survivors, the Radiation Effects Research Foundation developed a cohort of 76,814 children born to atomic bomb survivors (F1 generation) to assess cancer incidence and mortality from common adult diseases. In analyzing radiation-associated health information, it is important to be able to adjust for sociodemographic and lifestyle variations that may affect health. In order to gain this and other background information on the F1 cohort and to determine willingness to participate in a related clinical study, the F1 Mail Survey Questionnaire was designed with questions corresponding to relevant health, sociodemographic, and lifestyle indicators. Between the years 2000 and 2006, the survey was sent to a subset of the F1 Mortality Cohort. A total of 16,183 surveys were completed and returned: 10,980 surveys from Hiroshima residents and 5,203 from Nagasaki residents. The response rate was 65.6%, varying somewhat across parental exposure category, city, gender, and year of birth. Differences in health and lifestyle were noted in several variables on comparison across city and gender. No major differences in health, lifestyle, sociodemographics, or disease were seen across parental exposure categories, though statistically significant tests for heterogeneity and linear trend revealed some possible changes with dose. The data described herein provide a foundation for studies in the future.
Welding and joining technology has become a core field. Therefore it is more widely applied to nonferrous metals, inorganic and polymeric materials. That is because the high performance, high function and diversification trend of materials used as industrial technology develops. In the laser welding process, STS 304 and SCP1-S were used as the base materials, the output density was fixed $7MW/cm^2$, the protective gas was argon(Ar) and the transfer rate was fixed 5 mm/sec. and it was progressed while the magnetic field is gradually increasing by 100 mT ranging 0 to 400 mT. The tensile test showed in average about 6 % tensile strength improvement in the case of the laser welding process using the magnetic fields. In the shielded metal arc welding process using SPHC only or the combination of SPHC+STS304 as base materials. The electric current was set at 80 Amperes and the protective gas used argon(Ar) the same as the laser welding process and the strength of magnetic fields. In the shielded metal arc welding process using the magnetic fields, the tensile tests showed about 5 % tensile strength improvement in the case of using SPHC only, 3 % tensile strength improvement in the case of using the combination of SPHC+ STS304. In comparing the results of numerical analysis to the results of experimental tests, it was revealed that the temperature, thermal stress distribution and the behavior of molten pool were similar to those of real tests. Consequently, it may be considered that the numerical assumption and the analytical model used in this study were reasonable.
The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in kinetic and kinematic variables associated with an increase in upper body weight. Eighteen healthy male university students($175.96{\pm}4.19\;cm$, $70.79{\pm}8.26\;kg$) participated. Eight motion analysis cameras(Qualysis Oqus 500) and 2 force AMTI platforms(Advanced Mechanical Technologies Inc. OR6-7, US) were used to record motion and forces during the drop landing at a frequency of 120 Hz and 1200 Hz, respectively. QTM software(Qualisys Track Manager) was used to record the data, and the variables were analyzed with Visual 3D and Matlab 2009. For the drop landing, a box of $4{\times}2{\times}0.46\;m$ was constructed from wood. Knee and ankle maximum flexion angle, knee flexion angle, knee and ankle angle at landing, time for maximum ankle flexion after landing, and time for maximum knee flexion after landing were calculated. There was a significant change in the time for maximum and minimum ground force reaction and the time for maximum dorsal flexion after landing(p<.05) with increasing weight. There was no significant change for the hip, knee, and ankle ROM, whereas there was an increase in the angle ROM as the weight increased, in the order of ankle, knee, and hip ROM. This result shows that the ankle joint ROM increased with increasing weight for shock attenuation during the drop landing. There was a trend for greater ankle ROM than knee ROM, but there was no clear change in the ROM of the hip joint with increasing weight. In conclusion, this study shows the importance of ankle joint flexibility and strength for safe drop landing.
During a 5-yr period, 1994-1998, pre-weaning and weaning data were collected on 591 calves produced by mating either straightbred Jersey, straightbred Limousin or $F_1$ (Limousin${\times}$Jersey) bulls to mature purebred Jersey or Limousin cows. Traits recorded included birth and weaning weight, height, length, girth, fat depth and a measure of muscle (ratio of stifle to hip width expressed as a percentage). All traits were analyzed assuming a model with sire and dam random effects that included effects of year and date of birth, sex, breed and year${\times}$sex interaction. Main effects were generally significant with few exceptions. Direct genetic effects were large for weight, height, girth and muscle with a breed trend from purebred Jersey (small) to purebred Limousin (large). At weaning, the maternal effect of the Jersey dam was positive for weight (10.9${\pm}$4.9 kg), girth (3.7${\pm}$1.0 cm) and muscle (6.0${\pm}$0.9%). Heterosis was highly significant and positive only for fat depth (1.5${\pm}$0.2 mm) with the $F_1$ progeny being the fattest, followed by the backcrosses, then purebred Jersey and purebred Limousin. Also, significant (p<0.001) but negative heterosis was observed for weight, girth and muscle. The change in ranking for fat depth relative to other traits is a reflection of the large heterotic effects relative to direct effects on fat depth. Epistatic effects were not significant on any trait at birth or weaning. This study has indicated the possibility of exploiting the positive heterotic and maternal effects for fat depth and muscularity to meet specific meat quality and quantity demand by consumers.

Rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii (mean length $14.53{\pm}1.14cm$ and mean weight $38.36{\pm}3.45g$), were exposed for 4 weeks with the different levels of ammonia in the concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/L at 19 and $24^{\circ}C$. The indicators of growth performance such as daily length gain, daily weight gain, condition factor, and hematosomatic index were significantly reduced by the ammonia exposure and high temperature. The ammonia exposure induced a significant decrease in hematological parameters, such as red blood cell (RBC) count, white blood cell (WBC) count, hemoglobin (Hb), and hematocrit (Ht), whose trend was more remarkable at $24^{\circ}C$. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were also notably decreased by the ammonia exposure. Blood ammonia concentration was considerably increased by the ammonia concentration exposure. In the serum components, the glucose, glutamic oxalate transaminase (GOT), and glutamic pyruvate transaminase (GPT) were substantially increased by the ammonia exposure, whereas total protein was significantly decreased. But, the calcium and magnesium were not considerably changed.

Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the histopathological pattern of thyroid lesions among Saudi patients and to highlight the age and gender variations of these lesions as base line data. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data from thyroid specimens received at the Department of Pathology, King Fahad Hospital, Madinah, Saudi Arabia from January 2006 to December 2013. Results: The 292 thyroidectomy specimens received during the study period came from 230 (78.8%) females and 62 (21.2%) males giving a female: male ratio of 3.7:1. Age of the patients ranged from 14 to 95 years with a mean age 39.7 years. Two hundred and eleven (72.3%) cases were found to be non-neoplastic and 81 (27.7%) cases were neoplastic. The non-neoplastic group included: colloid goiter, including both diffuse and nodular goiter (170 cases; 58.2%), nodular hyperplasia (28 cases; 9.6%), Hashimoto/chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis (12 cases; 4.1%), and Grave's disease (1 case; 0.3%). In neoplastic lesions, there were 7 benign tumors and 74 malignant tumors. Among the benign tumors, 5 were follicular adenomas and 2 were Hurthle cell adenomas. Papillary carcinoma was the commonest malignant tumor accounting for 87.8% of all thyroid malignancies, followed by lymphoma, follicular carcinoma and medullary carcinoma. The size of papillary carcinoma was more than 2 cm in 40 cases (76.9%). Conclusions: Non-neoplastic thyroid lesions were more common than neoplastic ones. Colloid goiter was the most common lesion. Follicular adenoma was the commonest benign tumor and papillary carcinoma was the commonest malignant lesion. There appears to be a slightly increased trend of papillary carcinoma diagnosis, most being diagnosed at an advanced stage.
