  • With the development of advanced technology, automation of agricultural work is spreading. In association with the 4th industrial revolution-based technology, research on field smart farm technology is being actively conducted. A state-of-the-art unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration complex was established in Naju-si, Jeollanam-do. For the operation of the demonstration area platform, it is necessary to build a sophisticated, advanced, and intelligent field smart farming model. For the operation of the unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration area platform, we are building data on the growth of soybean for smart cultivated crops and conducting research to determine the optimal time for agricultural work. In order to operate an unmanned automation platform, data is collected to discover digital factors for water management immediately after planting, water management during the growing season, and determination of harvest time. A subsurface drip irrigation system was established for smart water management. Irrigation was carried out when the soil moisture was less than 20%. For effective water management, soil moisture was measured at the surface, 15cm, and 30cm depth. Vegetation indices were collected using drones to find key factors in soybean production prediction. In addition, major growth characteristics such as stem length, number of branches, number of nodes on the main stem, leaf area index, and dry weight were investigated. By discovering digital factors for effective decision-making through data construction, it is expected to greatly enhance the efficiency of the operation of the unmanned automated agricultural production demonstration area.

  • Two important concepts in VE are "function" and "cost." Cost can be expressed quantitatively. Unlike cost, the function can only be expressed qualitatively. Thus, to accurately evaluate the performance in VE analysis, it is required that the functional aspect should be considered a qualitative one. This study suggests a procedure of function oriented evaluation which can evaluate function enhancement of a VE proposal more logically and objectively. To conduct this study, problems were induced via case analysis, and solutions were found. In addition, the existing simple evaluation procedures were corrected, and a function enhancement evaluation procedure via function classification was suggested. For function classification, the use of the concepts, which were "intended function" and "additionally obtained function," was suggested. Function oriented evaluation procedure to VE proposals which is suggested in this study is expected to be a great help in treating valuable functions through VE job plan.

  • The present domestic underwater and ocean facilities management depends on analysis with the naked eye. This study performs quantitative analysis to improve conventional methods, analyze spatial situation of underwater facilities. This research is divided into two steps; underwater image distortion correction and image mosaic step. First, underwater image distortion correction step is for the production of underwater target, calculates the correction parameters, and then developed the method that convert the original image point to whose distortion is corrected. Second step is for the obtaining pipe images installed in the underwater, corrects the distortion, and then transforms a coordinates of the correction pipe image. After coordinate transformation, we make the mosaic image using the singularities. As a result, when we measure the distance between pipe and underwater ground and compare with calculation value on mosaic image, it is showed that RMSE is 0.3cm.

  • The effects of ground vibration on lava tubes during construction were studied to aid design of management and preservation measures for lava tubes. Ground conditions were assessed by RMR (Rock mass rating) and Q-system classifications for the Geomunoreum lava tubes, and vibration velocity was measured during in situ blasting tests in the Manjanggul and Yongcheondonggul lava tubes. Results indicate that the higher the rock quality, the greater the effect of vibration, although there is no clear linear relationship due to ground heterogeneity. A relationship derived between vibration velocity (PPV) and intensity (dB(V)) on the basis of blasting tests indicates that a vibration level of < 0.285 cm/sec meets the regulatory limit of 0.371 cm/sec and 65 dB(V) during daytime, and 0.285 cm/sec and 60 dB(V) during night. For blasting vibrations, square- and cube-root scaled distances are linearly correlated, with R2 ≥ 0.76. On the basis of this correlation, explosive-charge weights meeting the 0.2 cm/sec vibration criterion for cultural heritage were estimated to be 2.88 kg at 50 m distance, and 11.52 kg at 100 m.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a model for analyzing construction errors of reinforced concrete pile foundations using drones. First, a drone is used to obtain an aerial image of the construction site, and an orthomosaic image is generated based on those images. Then, the circular pile foundation is automatically recognized from the orthomosaic image by using the Hough transform circle detection method. Finally, the distance is calculated based on the the center point of the reinforced concrete pile foundation in the overlapped data. As a case study, the proposed concrete concrete pile foundation construction quality control model was applied to the real construction site in Incheon to evaluate the proposed model.

  • Clients demands have been changed by construction circumstances such as high-technology, mega-projects, and the complexity of construction. Advanced foreign countries have already introduced and applied new project delivery systems(i.e, CM, DB, etc.) to deal with the change of such that. Recently, Korea also launched two new project delivery systems, "Best Value Contracts to which the State is a Party" to provoke the project delivery system, which helps a public owner select a project delivery system appropriate to the project characteristics. Even though government has made his efforts as stated above, some clients have still used those to public construction projects uniformly. That is because there are not a selection criteria of project delivery system for clients. Therefore, this paper proposes the selection criteria of project delivery system based on project types in the public large construction projects.

  • Recently, construction industry demands have been changed by domestic construction circumstances such as high-technology, mega-projects, and the complexity of construction. In order to deal with the change of such a domestic construction circumstances, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) has introduced advanced delivery methods (i..e, CM, DB, etc.). However, the advantages and disadvantages of the advanced delivery methods have not been effectively applied for previous projects. The reason for this is that the "Reviewing Standard for the Large-scale Construction Bidding Method" has not reflected enough project characteristics when the delivery method is selected in the project planning phase. Therefore, this paper proposes the model for selecting criteria of delivery method based on project characteristics in the Multi-housing projects.

  • The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is used in various fields, such as land surveying, facility management, and disaster monitoring and restoration because it has low operational costs, fast data acquisition, and can generate a digital surface model (DSM). Recently, the UAV has been applied to process management in construction projects. Construction projects are widely distributed not only in urban areas but also in mountainous areas and rural areas where people are rarely in traffic or in vehicles. Projects range from a few hundred meters to several kilometers long. In order to perform a reconnaissance survey, a surveying method using a global positioning system (GPS) or a total station has mainly been used. However, these methods have a disadvantage in that a lot of time is required for data acquisition. This study's purpose is to evaluate the usability of a UAV DSM for surveying a construction area. Data was acquired using the UAV and a three-dimensional (3D) laser scanner, and the DSM of the construction site was created through data processing. The UAV DSM showed accuracy to within 30 cm based on the 3D laser scanner data, and a process comparison between the two work methods was able to present the usability of the UAV DSM in the field of construction surveying. Future utilization of the UAV DSM is expected to greatly improve the efficiency of work in construction projects.

  • For a hydro power plant project, the headrace tunnel having a finished diameter of 3.3m was constructed in volcanic rocks with well-developed vertical joint and high groundwater table. The intake facility was located 20.3 km upstream of the powerhouse and headrace tunnel of 20 km in length and penstock of 440 m in height connected the intake and the powerhouse. The typical caldera lake, Lake Toba set the geology at the site; the caving of the ground caused tension cracks in the vertical direction to be developed and initial stresses at the ground to be released. High groundwater table(the maximum head of 20 bar) in the area of well-connected vertical joints delayed the progress of tunnel excavation severely due to the excessive inflow of groundwater. The excavation of tunnel was made using open-shield type TBM and mucking cars on the rail. High volume of water inflow raised the water level inside tunnel to 70 cm, 17% of tunnel diameter (3.9 m) and hindered the mucking of spoil under water. To improve the productivity, several adjustments such as modification of TBM and mucking cars and increase in the number of submersible pumps were made for the excavation of severe water inflow zone. Since the ground condition encountered during excavation turned out to be much worse, it was decided to adopt PC segment lining instead of RC lining. Besides, depending on the conditions of the water inflow, rock mass condition and internal water pressure, one of the invert PC segment lining with in-situ RC lining, RC lining and steel lining was applied to meet the site specific condition. With the adoption of PC segment lining, modification of TBM and other improvement, the excavation of the tunnel under severe groundwater condition was successfully completed.
