The present study attempted to consider the effects of cutting lines in the knee parts of slacks on the clothing pressure and comfort. The study compared and analyzed the pressure imposed to the body in a stooping position and the consequent sensations felt by the wearer according to the slack shapes. The conclusion was drawn as follows: The pressure imposed by the slacks to the body is greater on the two points slightly upper and lower from the knee point than on the knee point itself, regardless of the slack shapes. Clothing pressure was lower in the slacks with 10 cm-wide and 14 cm-wide cutting lines in the knee parts than those with 18 cm-wide cutting lines. Subjective sensations felt in the knee parts were analyzed according to slacks shapes. As a result, it was found that slacks without cutting lines on the knee parts or with sewing lines far from the knee points were more comfortable. In slacks construction, the use of cutting lines in the knee parts can decrease pressure imposed to the knee area or improve the comfort of the slacks. When designing slacks, however, overall appearance should be considered and the weakness of cutting line that makes legs look shorter should also be complemented.
The purpose of this study was to provide the evaluation and prediction of strengths of SB latex modified concrete(LMC) using a statistical method and factorial experimental design method. The main experimental variables were as follows ; W/C ( 4 levels ; 31, 33, 35, 42%), S/a( 2 levels ; 55, 58%) and L/C(2 levels ; 5, 15%). The compressive strength and flexural strength of LMC were selected as a factor of response. The statistical method was carried out to analyze the results, together with factorial experimental design method and response surface method. The analysis showed that if L/C had been 15%, W/C appeared to be around 33% to achieve the design strength of $350kgf/cm^2$. In this case, the flexural strength and the slump came to around $68kgf/cm^2$ and 18cm, respectively. Eventhough the L/C varied, the design strength and W/C could be predictable together with slump value and flexural strength. As a result of series of experiments in this study, W/C and L/C were proved to be the main factors influencing on the compressive and flexural strength of LMC. Both of strength and slump values could be predictable from the mixing proportion of LMC.
It was difficult to apply conventional excavation methods in some sections from Seoul to Pusan high speed rail road construction of 1 lot 2, due to highway concrete road, gas pipe, water pipe and nearby factories with automatic control system machine. To excavate safely and efficiently in these sections new blast patterns were employed within allowable blast vibration level, by test blast and controlled vibration by sequential blast. Behaviors of the rock mass including convergence and displacement around tunnel were measured with construction works and the crack width in concrete wall was also monitored for controlling allowable limits. The results can be summarized as follow : 1. The allowable blast vibration level in structure site is less 1.0cm/sec for highway concrete, 0.5 cm/sec for gas pipe, water pipe and building housing and 0.3 cm/sec for automatic control system machine. 2. The convergence displacement, single rod extensometer and multi rod extensometer around tunnel and cracks in concrete wall were measured, it was confirmed that the measured values were converged within allowable level. 3. The empirical formular of ground vibrations with 90% confidence lines for PD-3 was given as follow. $$V_{90%}=45.549({\frac{D}{\sqrt{W}}})^{-1.353}$$
Monitor height is one of the key factors in the VDT workstation design. Most of the previous studies have focused on traditional VDT workplace where the operators performed data entry or word processing tasks using single monitor. This study aimed to suggest proper monitor height when the main task was monitoring information from different number of information sources. Twelve male students participated in three experiments: single information source (one monitor), two information sources (one monitor and one CCTV), and three information sources (one monitor, one CCTV and a window). Subjects performed monitoring tasks for 10 minutes with 3 different monitor center heights : 89.0 cm (Low), 111.3 cm (Middle), and 124.8 cm (High). Surface EMG signals of five neck muscles, subjective discomfort ratings, preference, and working postures were recorded. Results indicated that the middle height was proper for one monitor condition, but the low monitor height was recommended for more than two information sources.
This study is aimed to show that an asymmetric load in the frontal plane leads to an increase in low back loading and fatigue in comparison with a symmetric load when workers lift an external weight by investigating previous studies and verifying the phenomenon with an experiment. Ten male subjects are required to lift and hold an given external load at 70cm height during 50sec, then the EMG amplitude and median frequency on bilateral low back muscle groups (Longissimus, Iliocostalis, and Multifidus) are recorded and analyzed. Independent variables are two-level load weight (13kg, 20kg) and three-level LCG (Center, 6.5cm to the right, and 13cm to the right), and dependent variables are EMG amplitude average, difference, and Fatigue Index (FI). Results show that load weight increases significantly amplitude average and FI, but LCG does significantly amplitude difference and FI significantly (P-value < 0.05). Also the correlation coefficient between amplitude difference and FI is over 0.99. These implies that trunk loading should be explained by not EMG amplitude but muscle fatigue aspect since the association between an external load and amplitude is linear, but the relationship between an external load and median frequency as muscle fatigue index is almost exponential.
The significance of this study is the demonstration of a new method of preservation procedure for national-treasure-class cultural-assets by examining the characteristics of the Jeogori relic, presumed to be that of King SeJo, and validating the preservation process. This Jergori as well as the wooden Munsu-donja Buddha statue from which they were found are designated as national treasure. The Jeogori relic is made of light silk and dimensions mark 77 cm in length, 67 cm in width, and 94 cm in sleeve length. It is a typical Jeogori worn in the Chosun Dynasty. Preservation procedure was in the following order: Removing dust and pollutants by vacuum, washing, removing creases, reinforcing the clothes, settling at paulownia backboard, and packing. Storage and exhibition of remains was executed with as minimal folding as possible, and microbiological damage prevention was performed by dyeing antibacterial treatment with eugenol onto supporting cloth. The relic, conservatively treated in accordance with the above procedure, is currently kept at the storage facility of the citadel Museum in the Woljeong Temple. It is displayed annually to the general public for approximately two weeks.
This experimental study on high strength lightweight concrete using compound materials has been performed. In which, expanded clay was used as coarse aggregate, and silica fume and fly ash as admixtures varying by 0, 10% and 0, 5, 10, 15, 20% of cement amount respectively were added. Thus, the properties of fresh and hardened concrete have been investigated. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; Each slump loss of mixtures replaced fly ash has been decreased by increasing replacement rate. The compressive strength have shown 465, 428 and $401kgf/cm^2$ at 30, 40 and 50% of W/B in 28days respectively, all of which have satisfied the criterion $270kgf/cm^2$ of high strength lightweight concrete. The unit volume weight of hardened concrete has been decreased by increasing replacement rate of silica fume and fly ash, values of which have satisfied the criterion $2000kgf/cm^3$of light weight concrete.
Recently, there has been great interest in the application of short-range wireless communication system. In this paper, the miniaturized FM transmitter with low power is developed, and laboratory tests have been carried out. The FM transmitter uses FM radio waves to send sound from any system (MP3, PMP, PDA, MP3 Phone et.) to any nearby radio or stereo system. The transmitter is designed with $2.6cm{\times}2.6cm{\times}2.6cm$ system size. The operating voltage is 3.7 V and used the built-in storage battery. The system can use continuously during 7 hour with once charging. The transmission frequency can select one of 88.1 MHz, 88.3 MHz, or 88.5 MHz in compliance with utility condition. The channel separation ability is 40 dB. The operating temperature is $-10{\sim}+85^{\circ}C$, which use in the industry environment. Consequently, this system sis used conveniently with short distance information transmitter system at the industry field.
Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the nanoparticles produced by welding and grinding processes. Methods: The number concentrations of particles were mapped to determine the distribution of welding fumes in a workplace atmosphere using a hand-held condensation particle counter. An electrical low-pressure impactor was used for measuring the number concentration and particle size distribution. Results: High number concentrations were found around arc cutting and welding (grinding) processes. In the worker's breathing zone, the mean number concentration was 655,000 particles/cm3 and the count median diameter (CMD) was 84 nm with several multi peak distributions (~20, 70, 300 nm). However, at a distance of 3 m from the welding position, the number concentration decreased to 153,000 particles/cm3 with a 70 nm single peak size distribution. During a grinding process, peaks with high concentrations of nanoparticles were temporarily observed. The mean number concentration was 1,520,000 particles/cm3, and the CMD was 30 nm. Nanoparticles (<100 nm) made up 58% and 92% of the aerosols produced by welding and grinding processes, respectively.
