  • Galaxy morphology involves complex effects from both secular and non-secular evolution of galaxies. Although it is a final product of galaxy evolution, it gives a clue to the processes that the a galaxy has gone through. Galaxy clusters are the sites where the most massive galaxies are found, and thus the most dramatic merger histories are embedded. Our deep imaging program (${\mu}{\sim}28\;mag\;arcsec^{-2}$), KASI-Yonsei Deep Imaging Survey for Clusters (KYDISC), targets 14 Abell clusters at z = 0.016 - 0.14 using IMACS/Magellan telescope and MegaCam/CFHT to investigate cluster galaxies especially on low surface brightness features related to galaxy interactions. We visually classify galaxy morphology based on criteria related to secular or merger related evolution and find that the morphological mixture of galaxies varies considerably from cluster to cluster. Moreover it depends on the characteristics (e.g. cluster mass) of cluster itself which implies that environmental effects in cluster scale is also an important factor to the evolution of galaxies together with intrinsic (secular) and galaxy merger. Our deep imaging survey for morphological inspection of cluster galaxies with low surface brightness is expected to be a useful basis to understand the nature of cluster galaxies and their internal/external evolutionary path.

  • This paper suggests polynomial time solution algorithm for Sudoku puzzle problem. This problem has been known NP (non-deterministic polynomial time)-complete. The proposed algorithm set the initial value of blank cells to value range of [$1,2,{\cdots},9$]. Then the candidate set values in blank cells deleted by preassigned clue in row, column, and block. We apply the basic rules of Stuart, and proposes two additional rules. Finally we apply binary backtracking(BBT) technique. For the experimental Sudoku puzzle with various categories of solution, the BBT algorithm can be obtain all of given Sudoku puzzle regardless of any types of solution.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze spatial patterns of traffic accidents and to investigate spatial relations among neighboring spatial objects by applying GIS and spatial data mining methods. This study investigated traffic accident data in Kangnam-gu, Seoul, as a case study. As a result, four clusters were emerged based on individual attributes of traffic accidents. Each cluster showed distinctive properties. In spatial associations between individual attributes of traffic accidents and neighboring spatial objects, there were many rules according to concept hierarchy and definition of spatial relations. Although all rules were not be interesting and significant, they could be a clue to investigate more.

  • As the power electronics system increases the frequency, the power loss and thermal management are paid more attention. This research presents a real time model of dissipation power with junction temperature response for 120kw IGBT inverter which is applied to the thermal management of high power IGBT inverter. Since the computational time is critical for real time simulation, look-up tables of IGBT module characteristic curve are implemented. The power loss from IGBT provides a clue to calculate the temperature of each module of IGBT. In this study, temperature of each layer in IGBT is predicted by lumped capacitance analysis of layers with convective heat transfer. The power loss and temperature of layers in IGBT is then communicated due to mutual dependence. In the dynamic model, PWM pulses are employed to calculation real time IGBT and diode power loss. Under Matlab/Simulink$^{(R)}$ environment, the dynamic model is validated with experiment. Results showed that the dynamic response of power loss is closely coupled with effective thermal management. The convective heat transfer is enough to achieve proper thermal management under guideline temperature.

  • The sounds of exhaust emissions of automobiles are independent sound sources which are nothing to do with voices. We have no information for the sources of voices and exhaust sounds. Accordingly, Independent Component Analysis which is one of the Blind Source Separaton methods was used to segregate two source signals from each mixed signals. Maximum Likelyhood Estimation was applied to the signals came through the stereo microphone to segregate the two source signals toward the maximization of independence. Since there is no clue to find whether it is speech signal or not, the coefficients of the slope was calculated by the autocovariances of the signals in frequcency domain. Noise remover for speech signals was implemented by coupling the two algorithms.

  • A midst the tendency in an attempt to rehabilitate the coexistence of values in Oriental and Western cultures, along with centripetal attention through reincarnation of the Oriental culture, the modem fashion trend is also inclusive of such Oriental flavors even in the opposite Western fashion icons with an outlook for futuristic alternative. In this regard the study is to investigate the Oriental Characteristics shown in the contemporary fashion in a more profound and right manner by evaluating its spirituality and formativeness through analytical survey on preliminary literatures, whose key words are as follows; Fist, heterogeneity inclusive of the Oriental comprehensiveness through non-periodic chaos; second, imperfection in pursue of perfection through non-perfection; third, asymmetry caused by polarized historicity together with agility in the Oriental costumes; fourth, simplicity bridging into religious naught, and; fifth, spatial comfortablity shrouded by loose design. As a result, the study demonstrates that Oriental sensitivity implicative at the modem fashion, prior to its formativeness, shed out a clue of the Oriental profound spirits in its fashion style.

  • In this paper, we proposes an adaptive method for reducing the computational overhead of fine-to-coarse MRME at the finest resolution level by considering for the spatial and spectral characteristics between wavelet decomposition levels simultaneously. As we know, there is high correlation between the adjacent blocks and it can give the very important clue to estimate motion at finest level. So, in this paper, using the initial motion vector and the adjacent motion vector in the coarsest level, we determine the optimal direction that will be minimized the estimation error in the finest level. In that direction, we define the potential searching region within the full searching region that is caused to increase much computational overhead in the FtC method. Last, in that region, we process the efficient 2-step motion estimation. and estimate the motion vector at finest resolution level. And then, this determined motion vector is scaled to coarser resolutions. As simulation result, this method is similar to computational complexity of the CtF MRME method and very significantly reduces that of the FtC MRME method. In addition, they provide higher quality than CtF MRME, both visually and quantitatively

  • Interplanetary dust particles are observable as zodiacal light, which is the sunlight scattered by the interplanetary dust particles. The origins of interplanetary dust particles are still in question because they are eroded by Poynting-Robertson photon drag and mutual collisions among dust particles. The small-scale structures in the zodiacal light provided a clue to specify their origins. Asteroidal debris were detected as band-like structures (dust bands), and the cometary large particles were detected as narrow trails (dust trails). However, little is confirmative about their detailed origins and mineralogical compositions because of the lack of observational data particularly in the optical wavelength. We made a high-resolution optical zodiacal light map based on the CCD observations at Mauna Kea, Hawaii. We analyzed data taken on November 12, 2004. After the data reduction, such as flat fielding and subtraction of airglow emissions, we succeeded in the construction of the zodiacal light map with the spatial resolution of 3' in the solar elongation between 45 degree and 180 degree. This is the highest resolution map in the visible wavelength so far. In this map, we confirmed the dust bands structures near the ecliptic plane. We will discuss about the similarities and the differences between optical and infrared dust bands.

  • Koryokukshinjodaechangkyochongbyollock is an epoch-making catalogue for historical study of proofing Buddhist scriptures in Korea. This bibliography was appended to the 30 volumes which was corrected in 70 Ham, 66 scriptures, and 79 cases. Comparing the differences between the first carved Tripitaka' s texts in Korea, texts made in the Sung dynasty, and the Kitan's texts, this catalogue discovered the name of scriptures, translators, volume number, the changed am order as well as omission, defaults, mistranslation of the Tripitaka made in the Sung dynasty. From Chon-ham to Young-ham, 480 sets among Kaewon-sokkyorock and 43 sets among Chongwonrock were correctly laid. Songshinyokkyong and the Sung Emperor, T'ai Tsung's statements were excluded. Even though it was possible to get these scriptures only by import from Sung, these imported scriptures had no reason to be proofed because of their new version and the author's direct selection in Sung. Shinchipchangkyon-geumeuisuhamlock has no authentic Sung's and Koryo's text books for correction. kyochongbyollock delivered the scriptures listed on Kudaechangmoklock, which gives an important clue to research transformation from the first to the second carved Tripitaka. Through the systematic study of the transformated facts beteween the first carved Tripitaka and the second one, This study would help rebulid the original Chojodaechan-gkynng which has been not yet perfectly discovered itself.

  • Stratigraphic subdivision, correlation and depositional environments of Oligocene strata in the Cheju basin are studied using microfossils, wireline-log, trace elements from Geobuk-1, Okdom-1 and JDZ V-2 exploratory wells as well as seismic attributes. Application of these Integrated approaches is becoming increasingly an important tool in sedimentary and petroleum geology. The purpose of this study is to provide an integrated sequence-stratigraphic interpretation for petroleum system in the Cheju basin. During the last several years the Cheju basin has been studied for petroleum potential in terms of sequence stratigraphy. The strata assigned to be of the Early Miocene in the previous studies are reinterpreted to be of Oligocene in age. Depositional environments of these strata are also reinterpreted to have been influenced significantly by marine floodings. This interpretation is supported by the lines of evidence such as occurrences of abundant dinoflagellates and calcareous nannofossils, higher sulfur (1000-10000 ppm), TOC contents $(>1{\~}3{\%})$ and hydrogen index, and specific biomarkers such as dinostrane and $C_{30}$ 4-methyl steranes. Seismic facies, determined as a fairly continuous amplitude reflection, relatively parallel uniform strata, also provides a clue for recognizing marine transgressions during the Oligocene. Two 2nd--order stratigraphic cycles are observed in Oligocene strata based on well-log responses and the presence of microfossils. Each sequence comprises shallow marine deposits in the lower part and inner-outer neritic deposits in the upper part, thus showing a upward-deepening trend. In petroleum exploration point of view, the presence of marine strata would provide a better exploration potential for source rock and reservoir quality in the Cheju basin, offshore Korea.
